I'm glad to see after missing out on lolcow of the year Hasan is still gunning for it this year. I was afraid he was going to fizzle out with his legacy of Electric Dog Man.

The NYT article updated with a statement from Hasan that he composed on stream yesterday.
Mr. Piker said in a statement that the attacks were meant to serve as a “distraction” from the work of activists and politicians to show how the U.S. government’s treatment of Cuba had “asphyxiated the island” and to downplay how the Trump administration was “engaging in yet another unjustifiable regime change effort” in Cuba.

I just noticed that Hasan does not capitalize letters as a rule, unless it's caps lock. Not even for the names of people. Not just for fast tweets. Looking around, it appears to me that it's his manner of typing everywhere. He must've trained phone autofill/correcting for this as well. I guess that's what practicing anti-capitalism means to him, rather than anything to do with his consumerism.

North Korea might be able to convince Hasan to come over. There’s been a phase of online leftists unironically defending them so there’s just enough people for another “flotilla” to come over.

However, he is unironically stupid enough to end up becoming the next Otto Warmbier and create a diplomatic nightmare by either actually trying to steal a poster to put in his room to prove to his audience how much of a communist he is or being on his phone when he should be laying flowers down in front of the statues of the Supreme Leaders during his tour.
 
It is very funny how everyone noticed that this whole thing was more performative propaganda than a Gestapo breakdancing film. This either did not raise their reputation enough to make it worth it or it actively hurt them. And Hasan made things worse with comments such as "they like not having electricity".

Apparently, the US has barred travel to North Korea since 2017 in response to the kidnapping and murder of Otto Warmbier.

But if it wasn't for that, I think there is a good chance that Hasan would NOT go to North Korea out of fear of accidentally breaking US law or receiving its scrutiny. As I just shared earlier, even though it was in his ability to do so, he cancelled his trip to Cuba last year because of this worry, possibly not feeling confident in his own ability to ensure legal compliance. I think one reason why he just traveled to Cuba now was because it was in a very big group that did a lot of the travel-planning and legal checks for him.

But if it wasn't for that too, I initially suspected that Hasan would be up for a propaganda tour in North Korea. Though he doesn't speak about it nearly as much as Cuba and China, he at least blames its faults on America and sanctions as per his usual policy. This is similar to how he speaks of his Cuba trip now, not so much saying that the communist regime is super-awesome (though he certainly believes that), but rather talking about how everything bad going on there is the fault of the American "blockade". I could see North Korea using this narrative angle with him.

However, I did a little investigating on his regard towards North Korea and found this self-produced clip of him watching a video on some guy's recent trip to North Korea. Though Hasan does call himself a "centrist" and exhibit some apologia towards North Korea, it appears he does recognize that North Korea is immensely oppressive and suspicious of tourists (much more so than China), which now has me concluding that Hasan would not go to North Korea under any circumstance because he appropriately recognizes and fears the danger he'd be put in by North Korea, outweighing even his concerns over US law.

I do think they regret Hasan and Kneecap. Perhaps their true purpose was the collaboration with the regime. Regardless, the PR boost was an important if secondary goal at the very least. Hasan making his stupid comments and Kneecap killing people probably hurt the entire campaign. I doubt that the Goof Squad drawing attention to the mismanagement of the country by the regime went down all that well with the Cuban Commies.

Medicines to mitigate the effects of Alzheimer's disease have been around for fucking years, it just costs a fuck ton to get in most cases and doesn't actually reverse the damage already done. Whatever Cuba is attempting to make is probably just a rebranded version of what we already have and will be less effective due to their limited resources and subpar education.
