Weird and Cringe things you've seen while working in IT - Since everyone is too lazy to make such a thread where IT bros can vent

It's been many years since I've met a younger guy who even seems interested in going deeper to learn for the sake of learning. They all want a tool or dashboard you can buy to fix the problem. And don't get me started on how none of them automate shit.
It's been maddening over the past couple years seeing a bunch of Linux newcomers say "and I couldn't have switched without da chat gee pee tea!!"

Nigger, it's a repackage of the same man pages, wikis, and forum threads you already had access to. But an unholy combination devoid of context that gets even more stuff wrong.

Gentlemen... I have a modest proposal.

For those of you unfortunate enough to have to actively deal with indians over the phone - incoming or outgoing - could you, next time it happens, let them jeet for about a minute and a half then ask for an operator?

"Uh, you're talking to one, sar."
"Uh-huh... okay. Operator, please."
"You are TALKING to an operator, sar."
"Really? You kinda sound like a robot; you don't sound particularly human to me."
"I am human, sar."
"*sigh* Okay... In that case, can you pipe me through to someone else then."

Just be as polite (yet firm) as you can. I'm very curious how they'd respond. Can't really call the caller racist over mistaking them for an LLM, can they?

It's easier and faster to install a linux distro than Windows. Dunno why tards need an LLM for it when YouTube exists.

Some distros have it pretty much fully automated. I am baffled at why you would need a LLM to do it. Are these people trying to raw dog Gentoo or build Arch from zero? Do they not know how there are pre packaged GUI installs?

Usually I just say "Your caste is not high enough to talk to me." because it makes them fly into a rage and hang up but I'll try this next time

I really hate how the Youtubification of software guides. More often than not written articles are superior. Videos are just so clunky. Oh you didn't quite get something explained over several minutes so you want to listen to it again? You have to muck about rewinding to find the spot where the Youtuber started explaining it.

There's this lovely 40 minute guide of installing Mint alongside Windows that I usually point people to and it works really well for them.
This is another issue I have: how fucking long the vast majority of video guides are.

For some reason I have become the unofficial tech support for the elderly who participate in a local nonprofit I help out in my free time. I might just send this lady flowers.

this one has labelled chapters so you can skip to the relevant steps
You're proving my point. He wasted 3 minutes explaining how to download the Mint ISO and in a very surface level way:
  • Download the ISO from the official web site rather than 3rd party sources
  • If you've got a newer computer, go with Cinnamon edition
  • Otherwise, if you've got an older computer use the XFCE edition

Then use a brush or rag in distilled water to clean the whole thing properly. Distilled water doesn't have any impurities. Water itself is not conductive.

Note do check if "distilled" is the proper term for that type of water, I'm not American so I might be lost in translation
If you put metal oxides in distilled water the water will become conductive.

Anything electronic will leech metal into water so unless you can get it dry before the oxides dissolve you might as well have used (western) tap water.

This is a myth, only tap water does this. distilled water is not the same as tap water.
It depends on the drying times. If you get the thing dry in a few hours it should work. If it's a complex part with nooks and crannies that suck in water water via capillary effect and doesnt dry the water will become ionized.

I tried this when I was about twelve and of course I did it retardedly because I was twelve. I dont remember what it was but I washed it, dried it until it looked dry on the surface, reassembled it and it died in a week when I pulled it apart again there was oxidation/water damage around and under IC packages and the like.

Maybe these days the boards are better conformally coated then they were then. But if you stick naked metal in distilled water metal oxides will form and metal ions will dissolve over time.

I used to work in a computer repair store, and I swear I've seen so much fucking porn.

I actually thought as an early 20 something it would be hilarious, but you get like

Bored.

My boss really had a policy that he's seen it all and he doesn't want to hear it unless it's something we need to call the police for.

Some highlights

A video of a woman shoving a banana up her cooch and eating it.

Cake farts.

A homemade video of a dude jacking off and accidentally cumming in his own eye, set to Aerosmiths sweet emotion.

Cum tributes to Dragonball z characters.

Homemade porno of two gay dudes wearing a bill Clinton latex mask and a paper / cardboard bill Clinton mask

Someone masturbating, but you can hear the sopranos in the background. Don't know what episode, but you hear Tony yell "GET THE FUCK BACK IN YOUR FUCKING HOLE!"

A PDF of "The Nigger Owners Manual. "

And of course, the scariest thing ever, and pretty sure it's fucking illegal.

Was there any bestiality? I swear there is a direct corellation between being unable to reinstall Windows yourself and looking at animals sexually

Me personally, I never had anything with that, but my coworker did. It's actually how I learned pigs have a corkscrew shaped penis.

Realistically you can just douse it in contact cleaner then airblast it

Contact cleaner COULD get under something and take a long time to dry I guess, but if you put a fan over it or on an air purifier it'll be gone fast. Other than that it dries out almost instantly

I always thought you were supposed to clean computer stuff with rubbing/denatured alcohol so as to avoid conductivity/corrosion.

Overhearing how an algo is supposedly racist for pointing out that a "group" is overly represented as a risk group, and ignoring it is le heccin yahtzee.

Guess working in IT sometimes just makes you wanna see people fail for the hypocrites they are.
