Two questions pop into my head from this train of thought:

1. Do you enjoy when journalists give softball interviews to dishonest people you disagree with, given that other people are able to eventually come correct the misinformation? A good example would be to think of instances where a journalist gave a softball interview to a politician you despise, who spent the entire time saying obvious bullshit with virtually zero pushback.

2. Does the quality of Josh's interview depend entirely on Tom's ability to debunk the claims that were being made? Had turkey tom NOT kept his little blackmail folders, recorded calls, and kept chat logs, he likely wouldn't have been able to thoroughly debunk them. In that case, Josh would have just been amplifying what should have been obvious bullshit (that, unfortunately, most people seemed to believe)

Maybe you do believe this, but imo I think interviews should be aimed towards uncovering true things. That doesn't mean browbeating; you can ask questions in ways that get to the heart of weaknesses in someone's story without browbeating them, and then the person can respond to those challenging questions in ways that can strengthen or weaken their story.
