, it's relatively obscure Lynch lore:
why did it need to be plugged in? this is one of the better things about podcasts and online interviews vs tv, because that needed a solid 10 minutes and he gave him nothing.
but I tapped out when Jay made their 1,000,000th “dude bros = fragile masculinity am I riiiiiighhhhhttt!?” type remark.
. if they were cool they'd have used an older set and pretended it was 2011 because what the fuck, this is probably their best review in awhile. i don't think i've ever seen them so even handed and have different complaints about a film. what one hated the other loved.

Jay Bauman watches foreign films with his friends at The Manhole

1) Despite hand wringing about how he's "fine" with subtitles, he still ultimately ended up admitting that when there's more on screen he doesn't like to read. He points out that he watched Squid Games dubbed which even casual viewers can mostly agree to watch the sub (to the point that Netflix had to update the subs cause people found tons of mistakes). And 2) Americans in particular have a real problem with needing to have lip flaps match the dubbed audio. For example Japan notoriously doesn't particularly worry so much over it to the point that even anime done in Japanese will have lip flaps not match. On the opposite end, it's how the Speed Racer dubbing happened where characters talk really fast to try to convey all the info and also matching the lip flaps.
Anime typically is not too specific with lip flaps because the more specific it gets, the harder it is to dub in other languages (see Godzilla dubs v. any 21th century anime). "What?!" doesn't exactly fit "Nani?!" lip flaps.

Anyways, I've never understood people that hate subs. Slow reading speed maybe? Cause it takes me a glance when reading subs and it's not like I catch everything in a frame on a first viewing anyways regardless of language.

Subtitles suck, especially if it's something that has any visual style and you want to watch the movie instead of reading text.

It's a matter of comfort.
I'm not trying to prove anything while watching a movie or a show, I'm trying to relax.
Having to read text that quickly disappears on screen is work.
Might not be a lot of work but it is work nevertheless.

If I'm doing a review and making money off of this, sure, I'll watch the way the creators intended.
If I'm just wasting time, I'll watch how it feels the best.

By the way, here's an example of how normie RLM fans are idiots: the 'Susan' thing. Meaning, referring to Jay as 'Susan.'

It's cringe.

In the video it originated from, Mike was trying to make a joke like he's Pat Sajak referring to his assistant (always a woman) by 'her' name. It's a one-off, throwaway joke.

But look at any RLM video with Jay in it, and some mouthbreather in the comments yells out 'SUSAN!'

You can tell it annoys Jay (understandably) because normies are questioning his masculinity, but it also annoys Mike because people don't understand what he was going for.

I bring this up because I'm currently listening to ancient Pre Rec episodes and whenever Jay is on, someone in the comments is bringing up the Susan thing.

They breathe through their mouths and lack a brainstem, and we share a fandom with them. This is our lot in life.

I'm surprised they didn't talk about the Iron Lung movie that's been released. But then again, it's not every day you get a new Sam Raimi movie.
They covered Shelby Oaks, which barely made its money back even with that faggot Stuckmann's up front 5 year long grift funding. Talk about a lost movie, and Iron Lung made 15x+ on its first 3 days than that one did in its entire run.

They won't actually make a video about Iron Lung.
They will talk about it briefly in 6 months during a catch-up.
They will say that they didn't see it, talk about indie vs Hollywood, mention the death of theaters and AI as always.

If they will watch it, they will do one of their phoned in reviews where they get the plot wrong because they were looking at their phones during screening.

Any good new reviews of theirs you'd suggest of old movies? Been years since I've watched them
How old? What genres? Be more specific. I think Fire Walk With Me is a good re:View because Jay and Josh 1 are both fans of Lynch and know a lot of trivia.

I got this fucking video randomly recommended.
Apparently Mike is a fan of pro wrestling.

Dune is visually interesting. The costumes are fantastic. It's more visually interesting than the drab sameness of the Villeneuve films with the boring, bald Harkonnen.
You could go on various art sites and quickly pull up various different fan art works that capture the necessary maximalist vibe and bold color choices needed for a story like Dune, and instead the new films go all the way with that sort of bland, might-as-well-be-AI-generated "realism" aesthetic that keeps getting pushed in modern sci-fi film and other media.

Yeah, I really don't like Nolan for this reason. I know we're talking about Villeneuve, but he's a Nolan clone at the end of the day.
