A little bit too simplistic in some areas, and proportions are weirdly off for "studio series" hich when combined with the coloration makes it feel a bit cheapo looking. At least it seems to look solid and slightly taller to be closer to the megatron and prime which are both oversized. 86 blaster is just a repaint of kingdom blaster which means this one's gonna be out of scale with the 86 blaster. I do like the beefy proportions though I miss the shoulder sculpt detail.

I like how the cassette guys have new molds here, but these new molds also unfortunately have the same issue the remolded rumble and frenzy that get scalped out the ass do where they omit the 5mm port option so it's either just in cassette form on the floor or a single cassette in the chest.

I should probably get kingdom/86 blaster or twincast at some point.

If no other, i hope this Soundwave gets recolored into the Marvel Comics version, specifically the one from the US comics and perhaps with some additions too. I'm really surprised they didn't capitalize on that version of Soundwave, would seem like pretty easy money for minimal effort

hoping it's this mold and has the cel shading the other figures I missed out on have. Still somewhat pissed about the nonsensical stress mark on my straxus' leg that Ive seen on other copies in reviews though nobody that has that ont heir figure brings it up for some fucking reason (yes I know I covered that back when I got it months back)

Though the figure's not cel shaded I'm kind of tempted to get this chinese third party head for the comic/toy colors galvatron selects figure I have sometime.

Shit's a bit too pricey for me though with my current money situation (25 dollars plus shipping for a head! yeesh!)

Heres a figure I got a few weeks ago on ebay for 30 bucks. Came with everything and its slowly becoming my personal favorite figure ive found so far.

Poseability is pretty alright, about deluxe standard today, with the knees being quite odd due to the monkey mode feet, the stability isnt that good though, due to no ankle joints meaning it cant hold that many dynamic poses.

The gun has a pretty neat friction shooter gimmick involving the mace.

Ive never actually heard of this until getting the figure and finding the instructions online.

The gun also attaches to the side of primal with a little peg on his right leg like he did in the show.

Transformation is pretty simple but has some interesting steps.

For the monkey hands, you open a hinge on the arm, pulling the hand assembly up and rotating the other hand to the open end before closing the arm up, it doesnt fully close though, likely due to age. But its a pretty cool step in a pretty simple transformation.

Monkey mode is pretty alright, the head cant be rotated and the legs are quite poorly handled, just laying behind the monkey feet. But the paint job is great looking, even holding up decades later.

Overall the figure is quite impressive, its interesting how the beast figures have aged as well as they did and I hope I could find more of these soon.

Pretty much all the figures (aside from shit with the cheap ass gold and in some cases dark brown plastic) has aged pretty well if it's not a figure entirely based around one gimmick, and even then sometimes those turn out oddly fine too.

no ankle joints
That's the big thing with a lot of them though, no ankles. Some have feet shaped in a way that you can still get them standing up in an ok pose but it's limited.

EDIT TO AVOID DOUBLE POST: Took some more pics just now since I can't remember if I ever took pics of this soundwave I got a few months ago or not. Finally got laserbeak to clip onto the spot he's meant to for the first time ever when handling this mold in the last like what, 4 years?

I view this deco as the "definitive" version of this earthrise one paint wise. Then again that's only because it has the paint that oen skimped out on for no apparent reason last second.... and then the legacy one still skimped out on but in a different way. Anyways point is it's got a similar vibe about it to MP soundwave (which I missed out on all the releases of because no FUCKING money)

I didn't realize there's now a weird thin gross layer of dust on the figure till I took these photos and I'm not trying to find something to dust this shit off with right now. so You'll have to deal with it. Anyways, Another thing I can't remember if I showed off or not was how rumble and Frenzy (the og siege mold ones) are made to fit into his back. I brought it up but I can't remember if I sent a photo at some point int he thread and I'm too lazy to check.

I'm so fucking glad I got these two guys used off somebody that didn't want them for like 15 dollars, fuck the scalpers squatting on the packs these come from and the Studio series versions.

In other news I tried out the stickers on that third party figure to see how they'd look, they went on better than anticipated... But they were cut too big so it's fucked. I tried pulling one off and re-adjusting it and now there's a little bit of cloudiness around it and it's misaligned with the other side permanently.

If I had the right tech and setup to I'd just try copy-converting the sheet to waterslides or something because I really like the extra details but FUCK is it gonna look bad with little transparent tumors dangling off it everywhere.

Also forgot to bring this up so "edit x2" I noticed some weird fingerprint looking warping on soundwave's buttflap. it's not a fingerprint it's IN THE PLASTIC.
soundpain.webp
I have no clue what the fuck caused this and it's really hard to photograph. it wasn't touching anything soft plastic if anyone has that theory, it's just been on a shelf for a little bit. Never transformed this one either. (did do it on the prior netflix release oen though)

I loved this figure as a kid too, although I feel like you did the ape feet wrong. They fold all the way up and the gray poles flip around to be like toes.

I somehow didn't notice this till someone pointed it out but the fucking SS86 soundwave has 2 individual eyes like it's magnus shades instead of a full visor and now it's bugging me.

Neat concept but it bugs me how much of the whale mode seemingly comes from nowhere.
From looking at it, the transformation seems to be heavily based on the recent Sky-Byte.

It’s actually based on that one comic panel from the Skybound TF series where he’s in awe at the whales swimming above him.
IMG_4410.webp

A lot of people voted for Shockwave on the basis that he’d turned into a whale as a reference to that panel, and some really thought that Hasbro would steal another fan concept and make Spinowave a real thing.

I’m fine with Shockwhale. It’s a bit goofy looking and perhaps not the first choice for a sea creature I would’ve went with (something like a pistol shrimp). But this turns out to be an actual toy I’d buy it.

And while I’m typing this, since I don’t wanna double post, I’m finally getting my Megatron after I missed out on him the first time.
