I recently played through BL 3 again in anticipation to BL 4.
The story was still shit and badly written.
But what annoyed me the most was waiting ALL THE FUCKING TIME for the self indulgent NPC chatter to stop in order to advance your quest.
In the older entries you could run towards your next objective because it popped up instantly, and in 3 you just stand there and wait for unfunny NPCs to finish their drivel.
I really hope they drop this garbage design in 4.
And sometimes, when you think you know where to go next, the game insists to "talk to the NPC again" for the quest to continue. Infuriating padding of playtime.
The gameplay was still fun though, firing wacky guns feels good.
They should focus on that, and not marvel meme plot writing :optimistic:
There is a mod for that but when i tried to install it, it fucked my game up and i had to reintall the game. Maybe you have better luck then me.

I started a new mayhem 11 TVHM campaign and I was legit floored by how bullshit the "stand there and listen to guy talk" is.

Borderlands is supposed to be an FPS ARPG, and even as far back as diablo 2, none of these games ever had you stand around and wait for story to happen, its kind of incredible how much fat most ARPGs cut out from the gameplay loop to ensure you're always having a good time.

Like the entire opening area with vaugn and ellie is so fucking abysmal.

1) listen to lilith mumble about shit that doesn't matter
2) go over to where vaugn is and free him
3) vaugn then does 5 min of aweful stand up ""jokes"" at you while you just have to stand there (you cannot leave or do anything else
4) after he finishes talking, you have to go back and press 'e' on him to have him talk more
5) then you slowly have to escort him back to the main base while he moves 1/2 your sprint speed, he will only move if you are in proximity to him
6) listen to vaugn and lilith riff off each other for another 3 min
7) press 'e' on lilith to continue (she then talks more and calls you "killer" again)
8) quest end.

Any normal ARPG would make this so much more bearable.

1) accept mission
2) leave to where vaugn is
3) interact with vaugn to free him, he says thanks and teleports/runs off screen to safety
4) fight more guys for xp/loot or teleport back to main base

the skip dialog mod doesn't even work for early game because it just cuts off their talking but the model still has to do all the little animations of talking/walking they scripted in.

ALSO ALSO i despise all the quests that have you travel to 11 different points all across the map to do fuck all besides press 'e' on something. Its not fun or interesting, the rewards suck, and they waste so much time.

Its a great thing that endgame / post launch they made content that fits BL3's strengths so much more, like the slaughter arenas or Malewan takedown. I hope to beat the game before bl4 comes out so i can actually play the DLC for the first time, I hear they don't suffer from all the S L O G of the main campaign.

So I've been watching Moxy play through one of the early missions (no spoilers on the videos, mind you) with the characters, and I think this is the first Borderlands since 2 that I can say all of the characters interest me in some way, even the black chick, though she's at the bottom of my list.

I think this is the first game in a while for the Borderlands series where I didn't immediately gravitate towards a character and liked the look of most of them gameplay-wise.

I wouldnt mind the conversations if they werent "Quirky and marvel tier writing humor" or if they gave us the option to just skip/hang up the call.

Hell i miss the dark humor that they have hopefully they wont be as reddit tier but considering Randy "Bigot song" Pitchford is at the helm, i doubt we will get fun shit and instead get super sanitized stuff.

Hopefully the game wont be a clusterfuck on release and wont brick pc's

Moze was so fucking goated. A limited time mech that you could build into being up 90% of the time, and even without it she was fun. I can't see the cyberblade guy be any good past the mid-game point. Borderlands is too dmg% based for abilities to matter much - unless of course they're OP and overwrite dmg% completely, which is rarely a good thing.

I think his shoulder mounted turrets will make him viable, they do bullet damage and can be augmented i think
I see him as a weird Salvador version in B4 with how much damage he will be able to dish out.

I enjoyed Moze in B3 and i built her around her Mech since i like mechs and she reminded me of Gauge(another goated hunter) if memory doesnt betray me, i think moze "meta" build was something to do with grenades although i was too busy blasting bandits with my mech to care. Also i want to say that the siren of B3 has to be the worst siren for me.

Handsome Jack is just a hard villain to top overall within the Borderlands universe
maybe i'm retarded, but considering who Jack is based on, wouldn't it have made more sense for every villian to be based on a shithead ceo? like imagine if Borderlands 3 had a villian based on Steve jobs or the We Work couple, just blatant eccentrics who also seem like they'd kill people for fun.

I know everyone will go "but that would naturally lead to trump parodies" and that would be the natural inclination but i'd like to believe they also understand the villian fandom and refuse to do a stand in because of that.

like there are plenty of bastards to base your villians on, Sam Bankman-fried is a great example of someone who's got all the makings of a great borderlands villian.

No need to look so far, just make Randy the villain. He's incompetent, unlikable, starts seething immediately once someone calls him out, has no impulse control, treats others like shit. And he's unfunny, so a perfect fit for modern Borderlands.

Was mildly optimistic about 4 despite not having played the series since 1, but everything I'm reading about the performance sounds like yet another UE5 slopfest. People reporting the game only hitting 60 fps at 4K if you use framegen, and 30s without it. I don't understand, it's a very stylized game and doesn't even look much better visually than previous entries. I expect that from games trying to push photorealism, but Borderlands? Come on Randy.

Hmmmm.

It's wild to me that people still use Denuvo when that shit has been proven to cause performance issues for decades now.

handsome jack was competent though, unlike randy who is basically satan of game development to keep all the shitty develoepers contained in some version of hell instead of putting fries in the bag as they should have been...

the edit button stops working after two days or so, at this point they are probably just using the leftover time from the loicense, there is some chance people might be interested in BL4 but it's UE5 slop so it already filters out the poors, including BL fans that haven't upgraded in eons, also if it sells on consoles will it even matter for PC? not to mention that you can bypass denuvo if you know where to look as they were forced to change themselves to 5 activations per day... but what for? it'll still tank your already horribily optimized UE5 slop game.

I often hear the complaint about claptrap, to the point where they included a claptrap volume setting in 4. I don’t think claptrap himself is a problem, it is supposed to be an annoying character. The problem is after borderlands 2, everyone is claptrap.

now this is gonna be a wild hot take, but maybe gaming in 4k is a bad idea in general and people who do it are fucking stupid

better yet, its 60 fps. cant even be happy with that now?
4k is dumb

But to be a bit fair to the 60fps, we don't know if it's a stable 60 or if it's a jittery 60.

I am perfectly content to play a game that jumps from 80 to 60 fps as long as it's not constant and as long as it rarely goes lower. Mainly because you really won't notice the drops unless they're bad.

But if the game is running at an unstable 60 and constantly dropping frames you'll notice it.

On a side note though I'm seeing mixed things about the performance of the game. Someone said they were sitting at 200 frames on a 4090 while someone else said that they constantly dropped frames.

So basically normal modern gaming

I agree with you on 4k and find 1440p to be the sweet spot, but we really can't even say 1080p/1440p handle UE5 well, the mgs3 remake being a good recent example. Like professor donger said too, 60 with a smooth frametime is alright (although we do have 480hz+ monitors now), but not fake frames and stutters everywhere which is what a lot of the early BL4 testers are reporting. We'll see with the day 1 patch 🌈 but it's definitely a bad sign if we're targeting 60 on a game that looks no different from 3 fidelity-wise.

It does not help that in 1 the main claptrap showed up once in a while and in every other game he is a main character
