That struck me, too, but her parents were active in their synagogues and her late sister was as well. The sister's name was "Carole Ann," by the way, "Ann" not being a typical name for a Jewish girl either. I've wondered whether the daughters were named for family friends or others who were important to the parents in some way.

I posted obituaries of Mary's mother and uncle upthread, and both are clearly Jewish, and indeed the latter obit mentions that one of her uncles is a rabbi. So it is simply not true no Jew is named Mary. Also, there are photos in this thread of Dave's brother wearing a yarmulke.

(One thing: there was a typo in my above-quoted message I can't fix: Mary's maiden name is Slotsky not Slotksy.)

Thank you for the info. I stand corrected. I am genuinely amazed as I have never ever heard of a Jewish woman called Mary before. Perhaps the family weirdness goes back a few generations.
