So, here is a public service awareness announcement for anybody who goes to Renaissance fairs:

Pooners are overrunning them as well where I live, even in neighbouring states. Plus, a good number of vendors who make trinkets/pottery/sculptures have started making them in colors of the "trans" flag.

Of particular note was a frog-voiced pickle vendor with obvious mastectomy scars and hips wider than the shoulders. Why are we letting pooners/troons serve food? This is an obvious violation of most food sanitation and hygiene laws.

There were also many of the patrons running around shirtless with hacked-up chests.

Here is an idea...we could have a "leper colony" section of the Renaissance Fair grounds and make any pooners/troons go there and they would have to wear metal masks and hooded robes just like real lepers did.

I never knew that my area of the country would suffer so much from a scourge of pooners as I am nowhere near the coasts and I hardly ever see troons as opposed to their pooner counterparts who are everywhere here.

@Internet Wizard Next time type that out into a Word document and sit on it a few days. I’m not saying this to be snarky, I think free-writing for a bit might help you deal with how insane this shit is. I can definitely relate to your rant though, I think if I had to filibuster something, this would be my topic. There are just so many angles to this insanity.

This is also why I’m pretty forgiving of people in this space, because I think you have to be a little crazy already to care about this topic as much as we do, and then you have all of society telling you that This Is Good Actually and you’re a monster if you think otherwise. It’s genuinely maddening to see institutions failing everyone this badly and it makes you question everything you think is true. On the bright side, it seems to be on its way out.

It's not even the "tomboys," though, if that category exists in IRL children.

What we're looking at is awkward squidgy girl with long hair who never wears it any way but straight down and is currently really into the English monarchy but only as far as the War of the Roses and whose heraldry phase is starting to include vexillology genocide.

...pooners were never tomboys, all the pooners I seen so far are incredibly girly even the ones who were lesbians, some looked butch (ie: ugly) but weren't butch like riding on a motorcycle and able to fix a car. Thus these guys who married a girl who turned into a pooner are now stuck with a deformed "man" full of scars who still acts like a basic bitch.

I don't know about the place you live in, for all I know you could be a Pakistani woman not even allowed to touch a car, but depending on the cost you could easily do it more as a hobby than anything, and then if you get hired it was a nice plus on top of just learning to fix cars. It'd make for a nice precedent for people to point at and say "she could do it so I can do it also", too. And if you don't get a job, you still learnt a good skill to have. In the end, the one stopping you from doing it is yourself.

I've been doing something similar, albeit my circumstances are specific. It's fun when people tell me "once you get into the industry" thinking I'm going to get a job at what I'm doing (which I might, too, since I find it fun, but it's not what I've usually worked as).

I find this shit downright fascinating. These people absolutely don't exist where I'm from. Just the other day I saw a tranny on the train and it was a first for me, pooners are directly non-existent (I do know of both kinds of funny people that are home-grown here through their Internet presence, but I've never seen a pooner and I've never talked to a tranny).

There's some laws protecting them and there was a lot of noblesse oblige involved in the passing of that, but in real life they are conspicuous in their absence. I see a ton of posts around here about seeing them in the wild or having family that trooned and I'm fascinated by it, it's more or less an academical interest ("Internet anthropology", maybe?).

I did find out some acquaintances trooned out much after cutting contact (one was a US immigrant, the other moved to another country and trooned there), which when finding out was a novelty to me, and the transsexual community here still screeches sometimes, and loudly, but other than that they are ridiculously rare outside of their little niche, and I live in a big progressive city.

From what I've seen around it's always girls who are very into girly stuff. It's pretty much a stereotype at this point, they're almost never interested in being a car mechanic or emulator programmer, so I'd wager tomboys are less prominent nowadays due to less emphasis being there on the "do whatever you actually like" message and not the hypothetical tomboy-to-pooner pipeline.

There is a concession to be made, though, on the fact that many (some?) of them do seem to go to the gym and put on muscle even if just to pass better. But then they go and make crochet amigurumis.

I already pursue other career path but I'm trying to learn about fixing my ride and car. I don't know where to learn these things tbh other than maybe YouTube

Hey, if I break it, I can always go to the repair shop

Yeah, that's pretty much what I did. Lucked out in the fact that there's free courses near my area for my niche.

And yeah, for such a hands-on thing YouTube is a good starting point. It's great for all kinds of DIY stuff, really. You can also go on Reddit (1, 2), which for all its failings can do actual good in non-pestilent subreddits (ones about hobbies and hands-on stuff mostly - the more boomer/DIY they are, the better) and search for terms like "bible", "book" or "must-have". That's how I found about a 3000-page manual with a lot of information for my thing, just try not to drown in a puddle (which is easy to do when you're just starting out with something, but still). Having one authoritative source and sticking to it is great when starting out, since you have huge unknown unkowns about which one's better, so it's best not to overthink it. So get the pdf, read it and then once you get an understanding you can search for more information in other sources.

As usual, libgen, scihub and maybe archive.org are your friends (albeit libgen has somewhat of a bias and not every book can be found there).

Apparently these two books are held in good regard: Bosch Automotive Handbook (apparently this one's more focused on how the systems work than fixing them, but it did catch my interest here) and Principles of Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair ("Levels 2 and 3", from a quora answer). This was a cursory search, and there's possibly a lot of hair-splitting to be done about which is better or to talk about other handbooks, but if you fall for analysis paralysis you'll never get anything done.

And then having someone to ask around is always great, but that depends 100% on your social circles. If you have a brother or something that does car stuff you could hang around and see what he does and how. I doubt anyone would care if you went to a repair shop and hanged around as an apprentice, but again, maybe you're a Pakistani in a wheelchair.
