Nice video, it's interesting how RTS really died as a genre despite being massive back in the day. Probably because games became faster and you have less dopamine than a standard shooter. Not to mention the competitive skill gap is absolutely insane so unless you are playing with friends you basically lose 5 minutes into a match, unlike other games that at least give you the illusion of a fair fight.
There is still quite a few new good RTS games, not to mention countless support for older games via mods and fanprojects. The fact that you don't see much mainstream support is a good thing, then you get shit like Tempest Rising or Stormgate. Let the RTS fans live in peace, away from the disgusting gaze of normalcattle or big publishers.

Personally a lot of the mods he adds to make the "bath tub remaster" make the game look worse, like a modern game's poor attempt at mimicking the look of Morrowind. He also had some kind of motion blur on that was super distracting.
As an OG Morrowind player when I was 12, the mods always seemed to me like a bit much. At some point you are just playing a fanfiction. Especially as Morrowind itself is easily broken in just about every way.
Hit Chance cope will always be funny to me, just level up your skills.
I never understood how it become such a derided thing, it's just dnd mechanics in a game. It a mod really wanted to justify it, have it so the weak hit deals 1hp damage as if you didn't hit in a concentrated area.

With melee weapons it worked fine, it was when sneaking around and using ranged weapons. Seeing your arrow sail smoothly through the enemy was when you as a player started to get cranky.

I saw someone say (it might've been Warlockracy) that a visible dice roll for each attack would've do a lot to help solve this issue.

This is really the crux of it. It’s very frustrating to see the sword or arrow physically hit and get no real response as to why you missed. It feels like someone saying you did something wrong but you having no clue what or why. When you miss it’s good to know by how much or in the case of the enemy rolling their dice harder, why you missed. I hate not knowing.

Pretty sure there is a clear missing sound. Not that it really matters when it quickly stops being a problem.

With that there’s a dissonance. You get a whoosh as the sword passes straight through your target. That’s jarring. I’ll admit I am a zoomer and only recently began adding older games into my library. Most of the games I grew up with like Ratchet and Clank have an immediately obvious reward or consequence. *I* physically missed that jump or *I* failed to dodge because my skill at the game wasn’t high enough. When you grow up on that concept of gaming it can make something like Morrowind where you see the swing and assume it’s all good just to have it not count it can be frustrating. I’ve since played a lot more games that have actual dice and chance mechanics so it’s not as jarring now, but I could definitely see a younger me playing something like Morrowind and just not getting it.

I like the idea of grazing mentioned above. just have the missed attacks do a miniscule amount of damage and only give a fraction of the experience, and maybe for each level of mastery like journeyman, adept and expert the damage reduction is reduced for grazes by 10% so even as a master your “misses” could still be deadly.

It's best to look at Morrowind like Kenshi. You're not really the character, you're just controlling them. If the character sucks at fighting, then they're going to have a lot of trouble hitting their target, especially if you've worn them out to exhaustion. Like Kenshi you can still do manual dodging and similar strategies, but the fighting is all up to what your character can do. Older RPGs aren't really designed for the expression of the player's skill, but rather their competence at character building and growth.

You don't need to add perk tiers for certain skill thresholds either, as by about 60 in a weapon skill you're rarely going to miss a swing at all. Past that you'll find that weapon damage, enchantments and strength are the limits rather than accuracy.

I think a large part of the dissonance comes from Morrowind being a (generally) first-person game. When the player's viewpoint is closer to the character's, the natural assumption is that this will give a greater degree of control over the character's actions. Missed attacks wouldn't be as off-putting if it were a third-person or isometric game where there's less identification with the character.

Unexpected, but interesting new video:

I heard, way back when, that some Russians had issues with the anit-soviet jokes and the general narrative ( a cordoned-off city in Poland, with a secret, soviet-era research facility as a source of the problems) in the original game, but i wasn't aware they have rewritten the whole thing lol.

The game itself is a very good, if somewhat difficult, turn-based strategy, but it introduces environmental interactions that can ease the encounters (bosses included). I liked the story, however, i strongly disliked the fact, that, apart from your core 3 soldiers you were gaining and losing party members as the story progressed and there was nothing you could do to prevent a scripted loss

Haven't played it in a while though.

It was less anti-soviet, that it was full on "Fuk u Russians", funny thing the story in both Russian versions (the Goblin version seen as the more better one), the story made more sense than in the original Polish version.

You know, you are known as a resident pro-russian shit-stirrer/troll, so i gave you a benefit of a doubt and went and watched the full longplay of both Polish and English version of this game, just to make sure, that i have not misremembered/forgotten some things and i can tell you this, without lie or artifice - you are one dumb, lying faggot, who i'm pretty sure, never played this game, not even this shitty goblinoid version, that Warlocracy reviewed. There is no Fuk you Russian sentiment, apart from literally 3 scenes, where the Pole says, he doesn't like russians - oh my, THE HORROR, trully a strong, anti-russian stance:
A Pole who doesn't like russians..webp A Pole who doesn't like russians 2..webp A Pole who doesn't like russians 3..webp A Pole who doesn't like russians 3 - English version..webp
"ooooh, how DARE a Pole tell a fucking kacap to fuck off when he starts ordering him around on Polish soil ?"

The script and dialogs in both Polish and English version are your standard 90's action movie schlock: Sullivan - the strong-willed Stallone/Schwarzenegger leader archetype, Owitz/Owicz - the dumb, gung-ho jarhead (who is deeply christian and calls the mutants demons) and Trantigne - the silent, cowardly type, who is a foil to the afore-mentioned (mainly Owicz), with the occasional one-liners from Predator, Terminator and Aliens.

And the story is the same, convoluted mess about the teleportation and a "sleeper gene" that was in the original version and is dumped in full at the end of the game - the only, real differences, between the normal and the goblin versions are the constant "jokes" from the team, about the russian libshits and how the russian army can loot, rape and kill with impunity - ad nausem.

I can kinda see, how someone would find the goblin version more entertaining - with the more edgy, "le funny"/memey dialogs, but to say that it made "more sense"? Are you some kind of Pushkov psychofan? Do you sweep for him on the Interwebz?

I did play it, but I'm guessing since you're a typical Polak, fag, of course you're gonna defend all the anti-Russian shit in this game. Which, hey, makes sense for trash like yaz.

I said both the Russian and Goblin version, I dunno if you missed this part because your simple Polak brain cannot read. Because yes, besides the Goblin version, there is just a simple Russian version called Gorky 17, where the dialogue isn't meme based and etc.

I've looked into this game before, apparently there is 2 prequels to Gorky 17 all about Sullivan himself, which are just slavjank Metal Gear Solid. They're called "Gorky Zero" and "Gorky 2", I don't know if there ever was a Gorky one. Maybe this is it? I dunno, either way they are both very mediocre, but they're kind of adorable if you're into eastern european games that are trying way too hard. Also, the devs would later be incorporated into CD Projekt Red, so maybe some of them worked on The Witcher.

Prove it faggot, post screenshots, from whichever version, where the Polish dude says some anti-russian things, some trully HATEFULL things. And post screenshots of this russian version, which makes oh so much more sense, then the original.

You talk the talk, now walk the walk пидор.
