A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I’ve just come across one of those landlords accounts that has raised a good point. These SERCO landlord contracts may be violating the terms of their by to let mortgages. Since one of the terms is usually obtaining identification from your tenants. And we know these lot chuck their ID in the English Channel. It may be violating terms of some insurances but I am sure the government will foot any bills so that’s a moot point. I am sure a lot of these scumlords are not going to tell their lender they’ve got illegals in there. When I worked for a bank in the mortgage department one of my favourite query to come across was people who had ratted out their neighbours for having illegal HMOs. If enough people told on these people lenders will likely give issues for these scumlords. One thing the lender I worked for did was added extra to their interest rate as a penalty. Lenders may also tighten up the lending criteria if enough shit happens to these properties down the line.

SERCO also used to have the contracts to 'manage' the grounds of a number of non-league football grounds in Southern England.

The amount of botched jobs and unplayable pitches in early July led to many opting for 4G pitches.

Whilst I prefer grass pitches or the 'desso' pitches, I can understand why many go for 4G, especially if maintenance can be done in house.

Class does still exist to an extent but only certain classes particularly care about it being the working and middle classes. The lower, upper and ruling class don't really care all that much for reasons relating to them but the working and middle still hold those concepts in very high regard.

Avoiding power leveling but I used to deal with the super wealthy to the regular rich professionally all the time. I can tell you the old school money people were a delight to deal with. I have professional pride so do why job well and they never looked down on me or my North FC accent. You could contact them directly about issues and they appreciate you being forthright. I've always had mixed feelings on Veitch, on the one hand he's always come across as a bit of an attention seeking faggot who often initiates confrontations with people only to then run and hide behind the nearest police officer when shit starts to get out of hand. And speaking of the police, he has an utterly shameless habit of arse licking the balls off of the local constabulary to the point that it gets genuinely pathetic. These are the same people that would stand with their cocks out staring at a Paki raping a child, only to then beat you half to death for calling them out for it, they deserve nothing but open contempt.

But having said that I'd be lying if I said he can't be a bit of a guilty pleasure at times. In particular his willingness to just straight up assault chavs and junkies that try to threaten him is something I can always appreciate.
