A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

If we're not allowed, then I guess I'll be King, because there's precedent for foreign monarchs.

The left loves a purity spiral. As I said, I err on the side of being more restrictive on gestation time, but it's also one of my less chuddy things. But from my limited knowledge, I thought 6 months was pushing it. But it can never be enough for the far left. The killing fields must come.

Next up is postnatal.

The same factors apply. I predict that individuals will begin advocating for the use of postnatal depression as a justification for infant euthanasia.

They will say, "Well, we already do this, so we can do that."

This whole thing reminds me of an old and very dark /pol/ thread.

I think if people looked into a lot of sudden infant deaths, they would be shocked at what is covered up. (I'm not saying all of them are, btw).

I'll post it beloew. If anyone reads it, the argument is taken to an extreme, but it think there is some truth to it. It is basically saying that, to some degree, postnatal murder is being assigned to SIDS. It's been ages since I read it, and it is done in a /pol/tard way, but i think there may be truth ot it.

Caveat so I don't get lynched. female readers: I'm not saying ALL but I think there is something there).

Labour now in third place in the latest poll. Reform 7 points ahead of the Tories, who are ahead of Labour by 1 point.

Just need to keep asking the question they hate the most. When recording the abortions requested, will we be recording the data on which race the parents are?

Will girls younger than 16 be able to get an abortion? That might be rather important since Muslims like them young.

Note the wording of "migrants" on this. This is just taking into consideration people who've just showed up over the last couple of years and not the ones who've gained citizenship, Visas or have been here for longer which if you factor that in then I grantee that statistic is way higher.

I'm pro-choice but I thought that abortion legislation in England and Wales was generous and based on decades old diagnostic capability. When abortion was legalised in the UK, women were often 6-8 weeks pregnant before it was possible to confirm a pregnancy. Now HCG tests are so sensitive, we can know we're pregnant from even before we've missed a period. If a woman who really didn't want to be pregnant, thought she might be but hadn't take a morning after pill for some reason, she could test within about 12 days of the conception and in most cases know if she was pregnant.

Genetic testing of the baby's dna can be done through maternal blood testing from around the end of the first trimester now. So it's much more rare for parents to get horrific news at 20-22 weeks. There will still be the occasional time, an issue doesn't show up until later. And there is still the same rate of spontaneous, premature labour, where the woman's waters break much too early for the baby to survive, but the woman is at very real risk of sepsis. So there are medical reasons for later abortion, but overall, late term abortions should be extremely rare and I genuinely don't understand why there was any push for this legislation. It's genuinely weird.

I'd want to know how reliable the stats are, because as we've seen from the rape gangs, the authorities will often just not record the race of the perpetrator if it's politically inconvenient. I'd bet at least a full half of all rapes and sexual assaults are committed by minorities, most often against their own women.

The ones against their own women will almost never be reported. Most women who report assaults will be white or else culturally western. Muslim women living in Muslim enclaves of Britain do not report assault by the men of their community to the police.
