Nick is undeniably on the same trajectory as Ralph...a guntward spiral, if you will.
The only difference is that Nick is falling from a far greater height.

This made me think about how different the two are actually tbh. For all of Ralph's faults, part of me believes that he does feel bad and wishes he hadn't hurt the people he has. He just doesn't know any other way to cope so he doubles down infinitely. I get that sense as recently as Null's call on MATI a few weeks ago.

I don't think Nick has those feelings. Nick's biggest regret is probably the coke stream. If he could go back and continue living the life he had that day, he wouldn't have changed anything other than not streaming that day. He would continue abusing drugs/alcohol, he'd continue neglecting his kids, he'd continue to live in squalor, he'd continue being a sex fiend. He doesn't regret doing any of it, he's not ashamed of any of it, he just wishes that he didn't get caught.

On the other hand, Ralph's biggest regret is cheating on Nora undoubtedly. The fact he won't admit that's why she left is pretty telling, he's actually ashamed of doing it. If Ralph could go back and live the life he had with Nora, before he got fucked up on drugs, before he cheated on her, I genuinely believe he would at least try to do things differently.

Nick's superpower is making anyone compared to him seem infinitely better, and he even achieves this with Ralph.

I was raised extremely religious (Christian) but try not to evaluate situations with those principles because I’m not sure how much of it I believe.
