Lawson had a DRS issue. The thing didn't close. Meanwhile Hamilton blew a second set of softs while Leclerc chilled in the pit

Also funny: Leclerc 3rd, Hamilton 9th (even behind Sainz). And Gasly out of nowhere to P5

Fucking Norris :story:

Dude is really creative, finding new ways to fuck up driving a magical car. This is Piastri's season, if he keeps that momentum, not like anyone else can truly keep up with McLarens.
Though, Ferrari improves session after session, Russell's pace is very strong.... Red Bull is also very uneven, from winning to struggling to get out of Q2.

That amount of technical freedom is expensive and in WEC it ultimately resulted in the death of LMP1 once the costs spiraled out of control (well that and dieselgate). I don't think you're going to see regs that allow for things like that with a cost cap in place.
It did lead, although only for a few years, to the coolest and fastest cars ever at Le Mans and also some of the best racing, so pick your poison I guess. There is no perfect solution!

Ferrari improves session after session
You measn Leclerc improves each session. The gap between Leclerc and Hamilton was never so big in the earlier races this season. It seems whatever trick Leclerc found in Suzuka seems to be working only for him. Yes I know Hamilton is in a new team but he is a 7 time champion. A veteran. He should be quicker to adapt to a new team.

Also, since Leclerc adopted P?iastri (Monaco joke from last year) we have the Leclerc family front row lock out

Way past his prime, even as king nog of merc when they were building rocket ships towards the end he was struggling to fend off Vettel and then Verstappen in much slower cars. Toto knew he was washed hence the constant 1 year contracts, he knew as soon as they couldn't carry him he'd be dead weight.

albon out too
He shouldn't have been in the end, race control really fucked that one up.

Both Mercs were given a 1 place grid penalty,
It feels very harsh that it's not a team fine or reprimand. At least they only went 1 place and not 3. I suppose the FIA are right saying that there is an advantage to doing what they did so teams would just eat the fine to get the advantage but it still feels harsh.

Mclarens are fastest over a lap but the slowest top speed, I wonder how much that will hurt Norris trying to get though the field and if Piastri will have trouble defending on a track with many DRS zones.

In other news the FIA and Pirelli have decided the shitty tyres that fall apart in a lap aren't shitty enough and we need more tyre preservation "races".

Nice Qualy, Gasly did an amazing drive to get that underpowered crap to the top 5.
Ferrari seems to finally fix their problems but still not enough consistency
Mercedes being the dark horse of this season, reminds me of kimi's 2007 silent drive while everyone was focused on alonso vs hamilton, redbull's upgrades seemed to have failed catastrophically, the car is slower and still is harder to drive.
Sainz finally having success.
Alonso either giving up on his career or being kept content because he know newey and the honda powertrain and canadian money in 26 might get him another podium before his retirement.

Reminder that they've been fucking with the tyres in an attempt to improve the show for 14 years now. Every single thing has been tried and tried again at this point, except just eliminating pitstops altogether.

Not expecting too much today out of Haas, seems to be a bad track for them. Rare Lando good start, must be not being on pole. Shockingly good start for Haas.

Edit: Lando cheating to get a good start smh
