A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Just bite the bullet and buy monero and use it to pay for MullVad, it's only been barely 2 weeks and I'm never looking back.
Not paypigging for jewsh until he stops being so obnoxiously woggish gives us the correct and True and Honest thread flag back though.

@Bog-standard Poster is a russian asset, no surprise he votes everything as autistic
Not everything. If I get a bite, I'll keep doing it.
I still love you Boggy, and I do wonder how lovely your life is in the countryside of slav land. Probably better than seeing a bunch of sand niggers albeit.
The population is as white as the driven snow. Women are cracking as well. Sorry to hear about your mum, genuinely, positive autistic vibes from me to thee.

Police force blocks white applicants to boost diversity
One of the UK’s biggest police forces has temporarily blocked applications from white British candidates in an attempt to boost diversity, The Telegraph can disclose.
West Yorkshire Police (WYP) is currently preventing white British candidates from applying for jobs as recruits to its police constable entry programmes. However, “under-represented” groups can lodge their applications early.
The process has raised concerns that white British candidates are being unfairly treated, amounting to a form of positive discrimination that could be potentially unlawful.

WYP has said the policy is to ensure that “diverse communities” are represented by the officers serving them. But former officers have accused it of effectively running a “hidden” recruitment policy that targets certain groups.
One whistleblower claimed black and far east Asian candidates were considered particularly under-represented and given a “gold” ranking, followed by those of south-east Asian origin who were in the silver tier. “White others”, including candidates from Irish and eastern European backgrounds, were bronze.

How a migrant hotel reshaped a quiet riverside village near Windsor
Abhi is fed up with the racist abuse thrown at him on a daily basis while he works behind the counter in a small corner shop in Datchet, a mile and a half away from Windsor Castle.
But the racism isn’t coming from far-right agitators or Middle England locals. It’s coming from some of the asylum seekers housed in the only hotel in the village, located on the banks of the River Thames, which would take the Prince and Princess of Wales just a ten-minute stroll to reach from their home at Adelaide Cottage.
“They abuse me because I’m from India and I’m Hindu,” says Abhi, a 24-year-old who has lived in the UK legally for several years.

He says most of the abuse comes from Muslim asylum seekers from Afghanistan and Pakistan living at the 54-bedroom Manor Hotel, described on its website as a “boutique hotel” and given three stars on booking.com, promising a “serene country house experience” with a “beautiful garden”.

“They abuse me because I’m from India and I’m Hindu,” Abhi says. “They come in and shout ‘Muslim is good, Allah Allah’. They come in and say, ‘Indians are not good, f*** Hinduism’. It’s f***ing bad. They’re always coming in, taking food, [they] don’t pay. I personally hate it.”

Local residents and workers are counting down the days until the hotel stops being used to house asylum seekers at the end of next month.
It was one of the six additional hotels being used to house migrants since Labour entered power in July despite its pledge to end their use for asylum seekers, with more than 38,000 in hotels nationally at a cost of £5.5 million per day.
I hate how when they do a negative story on the migrants, it's couched in the context of making other minority groups uncomfortable. At least it's being talked about I suppose.

BBC spends 500k restoring a pedo's statue.
The BBC has spent more than £500,000 restoring a controversial statue created by a paedophile that sits outside its London headquarters.
The sculpture, which depicts Prospero and Ariel from William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest, was created by Eric Gill, whose diaries revealed that he sexually abused his daughters, sister and family dog.
The statue was initially unveiled in 1933, but has been damaged by protesting members of the public in recent years following a lengthy campaign calling for the BBC to remove it.
Now, the broadcaster has unveiled the newly restored sculpture after spending an estimated £529,715 to repair damage – as well as put it behind a protective screen.

A BBC spokesman said on Wednesday that the company “in no way condones Gill’s abusive behaviour” but added that “it draws a line between the actions of Gill and the status of these artworks”.
I'd be indifferent to this story if it weren't for the fact half a mil was spent restoring a statue of a pedo with actual criminal activity associated to him, but if a philanthropist or local/national did practices standard at the time, they'll acquiesce to every demand.

Are YOU next? Four cases of Britons investigated for 'offensive speech' as police make 30 arrests a day
Police are arresting over 30 individuals daily for posting offensive content on social media and other online platforms, it has been revealed.
Each year, thousands of people are being taken into custody and interrogated for sending messages through the internet, phone, or mail that cause "annoyance", "inconvenience" or "anxiety" to others.

According to custody data reported by The Times, law enforcement officers are making approximately 12,000 arrests annually under section 127 of the Communications Act 2003 and section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act 1988.

These laws prohibit sending "grossly offensive" messages or distributing content deemed "indecent, obscene, or menacing" via electronic communication networks, with the intent to cause distress.

In 2023, officers across 37 police forces recorded 12,183 arrests—averaging around 33 per day. This reflects a nearly 58 per cent increase compared to pre-pandemic levels when 7,734 arrests were logged in 2019.
The article has some recent-ish examples, but the numbers are a lot higher than I thought they were. A lot of people are spoken to/brought into custody, most being NFA'd, but still.

On the brighter side, we might have a nice balmy Friday. So that's nice.

It's the only way they can cover it without getting cancelled by the wokerati.

You know what this won't cover? Local councils have the power to interview under caution for a shockingly wide number of "offences" related to services they provide - particularly concerning anything to do with benefits. They can and will use RIPA to uncover and then harass people for "anti-social behaviour", for the crime of posting naughty words, if they can find even the most tenuous link to council services. Tameside council (which includes Angela Rayner's constituency) is notorious for abusing its RIPA and PACE powers to make life miserable for people.

Eric Gill might have fucked his kids, his sister, and his dogs, but he’s also the best sculptor this country has ever produced.

Monster, yes, but also an unparalleled artist.

The art needs protecting for future generations. There’s plenty of great artists who were just as bad but we don’t want their work destroyed because it’s been a hundred years since they’ve died or the allegations weren’t in English.

He’s also unironically a perfect representative of what the BBC is. It’s like pottery, it rhymes.

I suspect facetiousness but fwiw, this appears to be the named statue:

I don't think it's especially good purely as sculpture. I've seen far better both classical and modern. But now that I know the sculptor's predilections that puts the statue in an actively worse light - it's large bearded man standing close behind a naked young boy holding him with one leg extended along the boys side. Knowing this was sculpted by a paedophile makes the work particular unpleasant in implications. Also, do I see a little bit of self-insert by the artist in this piece?

And of course he was a member of the Fabian Society. Rarely for once, I'm on the side of the iconoclasts on this one.

Mate you have seen the "art" in question right? When the "artist" of that is a notorious mega pedo separating them isn't gonna happen because you cannot unfry that omelette. If it was literally anything other than old man with naked boy maaaybe it could happen. That and it being talmudically located right outside the BBC hq is just too much of a cohencidental on the nose move to be acceptable; it needs hammering again not the cuckchill in a box treatment.

Stop being a pearl clutching faggot. So a few girls, dogs, and sisters got a struggle cuddle. It’s not even like he’s close to being the worst person to have been involved with the BBC.

You’re fighting the wrong battle and wasting your time.

In a hundred years time no one will care because you’re fighting about this and they’ll all be speaking Arabic because you wasted time raging about this instead of someone important.
