But really, the Democrats did this to themselves.
They had a chance, over and over, to make themselves competitive in this race. They had the chance to open a primary on Biden and have the embarrassing debate while there was still a chance to see who performed best. They had the chance to open the convention to other nominees than Kamala.
Their candidate fled from policy proposals, fled from the media, fled from the people. And she phoned it in, over and over. She kept not following through on her promises. She didn't follow through on the little things: performances at her rallies were hinted at or even blatantly advertised, then it turned out to be a bait-and-switch. Her appearance on SNL was one of the shortest guest appearances ever (Tim Kaine was on screen longer).
When you don't follow through on the little things, why would anyone expect you to follow through on your vague promises of a better future?
The media personalities on the left have largely been taking away the correct lesson: this was a mandate, the American people have chosen, and the Democratic party needs to reconsider its extreme positions and the entire idea of a woke progressive party. Americans want meritocracy and a reality-based world, not word games played by academics about pronouns and the unhoused and the undocumented.
Democrats had the opportunity to come up with solutions to issues like abortion, immigration, the trans issue in sports. They could have developed better solutions, and the media knows it. But you know who doesn't know it? The golem that media created. The left is crying foul, saying that the clearest election result in 20 years is actually evidence of cheating and that every state needs a recount and investigation. They're saying Trump should be jailed. They don't have the ability to learn from this because they are marks, not smarks, and they genuinely bought into all the hope and cope from the media. They thought people really did support troon nonsense.
The biggest sign that too many people had marked out in the Harris camp was the insane, stupid "what happens in the booth stays in the booth" campaign. Anyone with a brain and eyes could see there were more people who felt uncomfortable discussing their Trump vote than people who felt uncomfortable discussing their Harris vote.
Today, I see more "if you support Trump, UNFRIEND ME AND NEVER SPEAK TO ME AGAIN" posts. It's crazy for people to disown family and friends when it turns out there's a 5% popular vote swing, but they have nothing left.
The funniest part is that the media already had the story ready for today, and it was obliterated. The story was supposed to be: "Founding Fathers saddled us with this stupid electoral college! How dare they, the will of the people was not followed, destroy the EC!" But that story no longer works. This was a true mandate. Which leaves all the Democratic "anyone who supports that dehumanizing cheeto Trump is a Nazi and an animal" people in a very uncomfortable place...they don't have anything to blame but themselves, their undemocratic campaign, and their unwillingness to face reality.
I hope for a lot of you doomers that last night showed you that your vote does fucking count, and that it's worth believing in a prosperous, healthy future for yourself and your family. People came together last night to show America that we're tired of playing pretend with people who've made themselves intentionally fragile. We're tired of acting like your top-down imposed ideas from radical academics are grassroots folk wisdom. We're tired of acting like our nation's history should be a source of shame, not pride. We're tired of not being able to tell jokes. We're tired of not being able to talk about the reality that fetishists are taking over positions of cultural authority and using them to groom children.
We're all tired. But we weren't too tired to go to the polls. And that made all the difference.
Make America Beautiful Again. Make America Proud Again. Make America Safe Again. Make America Funny Again. Make America Healthy Again. Make America Great Again.
And that's about it for the 2024 election. God bless every Kiwi who pulled a lever, for any candidate, and God bless America.
