That does make it worse, see CP2077, but I think romance in general just leads to stupidity. It's the issue of "we can't have nice things".With regards to romance ruining thing, I feel that it's letting you play as a female that is the crux of the problem when it comes to BioWare games. Geralt is male, so to an average shut-in, self-diagnosed autistic trans landwhale, romancing Yriss, Cirie, or Yennifer isn't the same as playing a sparkledust Dalish UwU waif or a Disney warrior princess to romance the usual suspects: Cullen, Solas, Alistair... god knows whom the woobie would be in this game. Those are the worst fandom/shippers in this game.
The games certainly are, the books are more about the romantic misadventures of fucked up people. You could tell that the sex stuff in TW1 in particular was entirely a sex sells type thing rather than trying to write something decent.Honestly, The Witcher is 100% wish fulfillment for edge lords, who want to hunt monsters, and fuck BPD women. At least it was honest about what it wanted to be.
