Modern Horror is in a weird rut too. It can't take place in the 21th century because everyone's got a phone, any time before than always looks like a pastiche of the period it's set in, and American horror doesn't like to have characters in it, so the drama is lacking. I know I saw Overlord in a theater and I can't remember anything about it. For $13, an unmemorable experience is just as a bad as an actual bad experience.
There's a lot of potential for good horror in the Current Year (tm), and there are many good horror movies that range in style and tone, but I agree about period specific films and lack of well written characters in mainstream horror. I think the main problem with modern horror is that there's no quality control. Compared to any other genre the profit margin is ludicrous. Even if it's dogshit, making a horror movie is guaranteed to rake in money hand over fist. Case in point, the new Exorcist reboot made almost $150 million against a $30 million budget, and that movie was such dogshit that the director walked away from the franchise and any future film is in limbo.

Also, I really liked Overlord, even though it had a lot of "woke" crap shoved in. I thought it was fun and shlocky with well defined characters. It felt like they left it open ended for a potential franchise if it'd been commercially successful, and I kinda wish it had been.

This was the strangest BOTW. Not in a bad way, just a pacing way. Maybe because the movie that blew them away came first, it was almost like a spotlight episode that was forced to share a spot with two so-so picks.

i felt it was a bit bloated, they kept a lot of what i assume are just their regular talk they generally cut out, so a lot of just hey its that guy and that guy, and remember that guy from that movie etc etc. it shows in the runtime too at 1h40.

Still, they have been going longer and longer as the years go by. It's weird to go back to very old episodes where they stand at around 40 min

Wholesomeness appreciation post; RLM usually has some very good thumbnails, but you can tell Mike appreciates Rich a lot in them. Can't really think of any other duo with a similar friendship or vibe on Youtube. Most duos are cynical and hate each other behind the scenes. Rich and Mike just hate each other in front of the camera.

Yeah, the guys don't leave much on the cutting room floor these days.

This is what happens when they have a BotW classic, i.e. Surviving Edged Weapons. It's too bad we never got an episode with The Baby, Ryan's Babe, and Blood Debts. If you haven't seen it yet, go stream The Baby on Tubi or pirate the blu-ray rip if you find yourself agreeing with Jay's reviews of movies. It's no Greasy Strangler but it's one of the weirder movies I've seen in awhile.

I'm getting really tired of BOTW. The movies aren't interesting anymore and the episodes are too long. I miss the 45 minute episodes and them being on a different set each discussion. They all blur together now.

Haven't watched HiTB in forever either. The only thing I still watch is Nerd Crew, Re:View and the Spotlight episodes. The reddit tier fanaticism in the comments on each video, within seconds no less, is cringe too.

They've also been avoiding the elephant in the room with modern movies too, which is why Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic are as popular as they are. RLM are intentionally trying to make themselves irrelevant.

I agree with you, I'm always willing to rewatch the older BOTW, but the newer ones just lack the energy and fun of the first couple of years.

The fact they haven't fallen over themselves to recommend The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is a symptom their lousy taste in movies and failure to recognize films that are actually entertaining is getting worse.
I’m glad that movie bombed, the adds were extremely annoying and they’ll never make Jewish revenge porn that’s matches the heights of Inglorious Basterds anyway.

What’s funny is I wouldn’t mind another run of the mill but yet somewhat quixotic ww2 movie like a where eagles dare. That movie though felt like it was probably going to follow the trend of modern action/marvel goy. If it wasn’t so flamboyant and obnoxious I would have checked it out.

You two missed out. Unironically the best movie I've seen in a theatre since Fury Road.

Offtopic i guess but damn i have a hate boner for Fury Road, it started so fucking good, all up until the end when the german "elite force" turned retarded Star Wars Stormtroopers and it all went like the "More violent than Robocop!" scene in Hot Shots 2... *shrugs* So thanks to that, i wont watch it.

It really does feel like they've run out of energy and are just going through the motions at this point. I'm just glad I'm not the only one that's noticed it. There isn't any real punch in their humor anymore because Youtube's started to clamp down on a lot of the edgy shit.

I think it's also that they are less interested in crowd pleasers. Mike has mentioned a couple of times that the winner is like the advanced course in bad movies, which means its only interesting to autists that share their weird views.

It disgusts me how many times I could and did watch those old episodes. I can basically recite them by memory now. The only ones I enjoy now are the Wheel episodes. Those videos are still interesting at least.
