Say's who? True, a lot of old-school scenarios are rendered somewhat null and void with the emergence of smart phones but you add a throw away line "Oh man, no signal, yadda yadda." And boom, we are right back to where we started. Plus, it opens doors to tell different kinds of stories. Having a smart phone didn't mean jack shit in It Follows or something like Green Room was all about trying to get access to a phone.
You could also have the characters be trapped in a location with a massive Faraday cage built around it.

Dunno if it's just me, but I appreciate the intros where they're still picking which shit movies they're gonna watch, as opposed to already having them chosen.
Perhaps mostly it's that weird juxtaposition of how jealous I am of their job, despite that horrifying reality that there are so many thousands of old VHS tapes there of shitty movies they're never gonna get around to watch. It really is quite daunting considering how many tens of thousands of hours they could spend watching pure shit to find an occasional gem.

Someone spoil The Baby ending because I tried watching some of these bad movies they show and they're forgotten for a reason. Even Miami Connection is a bloated waste of time, watching something like Ryan's Babe would make you retarded.

I'm waiting for So Bad It's Good to do that movie to find out how it ends.

No one answer this guys question, let him suffer knowing he will never know the ending of these cinematic masterpieces.

Says Jay, as he always criticizes the "no signal" cliche. Which I get as it's always a way to get rid of the phone in an emergency.

I've seen it at a modern day grindhouse a couple years ago. The social workers husband she mentioned earlier in the movie is revealed to still be alive and suffered a head injury that made him a retarded baby man. So she brought the titular baby home with her to be his playmate. Classic schlocky stuff.

Tim is a very comfy dude. I mean shit, he's still much better than most of the guests on RLM (i.e. Max Landis and Patton Oswalt)
Hell, a flaming dumpster is a better guest than either Max Landis or Patton Oswalt...

(Edited to add: Mind you, that's no slight against Tim... Just sayin' that those two set the bar REALLY low...)

Zoomers get scared with fucking phone glitches of all things. Just have it so that your characters' phones freak out whenever they try to use them; The touch screen wont work, the phone freezes on a disturbing screen, keep getting calls from "Unknown Number"... There's ways to make cell phones work in a modern setting, but you do need to get a little creative with it
