God, I forgot about that. I distinctly remember turning off my adblock a single time when that first popped up, and I was so annoyed by whatever ad they served me that I immediately turned it back on. I just swapped to a different tab and browsed 4chan or something for a couple minutes until the video started. It was always fun going to their website, then clicking on videos and hey! they uploaded one since yesterday. Just a more natural type of environment, and this was in '10-11, before people could even be considered youtubers. I even remember when Blip was doing that "we will block the video for 120 seconds or you can turn off adblock and watch a 30 second ad" and of course I wouldn't turn off adblock just as a fuck you.
I wish they would do more commentaries.
Aside from that, it was a pretty good video host until it shut down. I had to look it up to refresh my memory, but they got bought out by Maker Studios in 2013, and shortly afterward they changed their TOS to enforce the idea that it was solely a platform for "high quality serial content." All they ended up doing was chasing away a chunk of their userbase by terminating their channels for not living up to the demands, and then going under two years after the acquisition. I'm sure there's a market for that kind of thing (look at how many multi-hour video essays keep getting uploaded to YouTube), but not enough to support a whole video platform.
