Time literally just feels faster as you age because its less of a % of your life. Time moves at a snails pace for a toddler.

Any recommendations in dead tree format then? Both of the more complex variety and those for just wanting to get their toes dipped to start off with.
As someone who reads a lot but understands people who don't like to read, the two things I would recommend right off the bat are "Fashionable Nonsense" by Alan Sokal if you want to read a book that would likely appeal to the average KF user, since it deals with postmodern academics and their insanity but is written in a way that is very light and fun and entertaining, and more generally, short stories.

Short stories are great because they don't require as much investment. If it's bad? No biggie, since you only have to spend a couple of minutes to finish reading it. On the other hand, short stories tend to get to the point faster and you have less time and space to mess around as a writer, so you're forced to really focus on what the appeal and message of the story is supposed to be. They have to be all meat, no fat. I think that short stories are generally the best starting point for people who want to get into reading.

Some random, popular short stories that I think anyone would enjoy are "Dagon" by Lovecraft, "2BR02B" by Kurt Vonnegut, "Survivor Type" by Stephen King and "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" by Harlan Ellison. They're all stories that are only a couple of pages long and that you can read in a couple of minutes. If you're curious about any author, just read one of their short stories and you can often get a pretty good sense for whether or not it is worth reading one of their longer novels.

Man the 2020s for me have been zooming by way too quick, we're almost halfway through it and that just feels wrong on some level
It's just been a bunch of empty, vapid nothing. We've just been rotting waiting for anything good or some actual change. There are five games that came out in recent memory I actually consider good out of dozens. The last good game I can think of before is from twenty fucking fifteen. Not a single movie I've watched in the past half-decade has been good, if I've even bothered to watch or remember that I've watched them.
this is a level of stagnation i thought impossible

I think COVID fucked a lot of that up. People got stuck in a loop of being inside and not being allowed to do a lot of normal things for three years.
More grim when you realize the quality of the slop they were locked in with during those years
never in my life have i ever felt so superior for being a shut-in
also, lol, imagine consuming modern slop instead of 80s-00s kino

Oh for sure that made those 3 years for me feel like barely one.

This right here singlehandedly managed to make me not want to consume almost all media. I do not understand how even with record media consumption they managed to make media as horrible as it could conceivably be. It wasn't for a lack of talent that this happened, theres a lot of extremely talented people. Maybe it was complacency in the fact that people were consuming anything put out in that timespan. If you would've told me 5 years ago all entertainment would be functionally in ruins I wouldn't have believed you. Because someone is always consuming even dogshit media, but it turns out even the target audiences of dogshit media don't actually enjoy consuming dogshit media. Because it's dogshit media. Now the people that did buy into the dogshit media at the start of this aren't captive customers and even they're fucking burnt out.

Who is this media even for at this point? Has it just been in production since the peak of dogshit productions and now they're just trying to push it out like the fucking constipated gravel turd it is? Whos waking up and saying I want to watch [insert show here] I missed the last episode of [insert show here]

I went to trade school in 2015. Shit was actually nice irl and online before that despite my autism and fighting with shit teachers. If i only knew at the time that shit wasn't going to get better.
I guess this is part of being early zoom zoomie
Those fuckers lying to us in high school cost everybody their time. I bet the kids they saved from suicide wish they did it.
