One thing I can say about CS:GO, despite it's more retardedly competitive nature is it still has this. In mid-match teams can yell at each other, I hopped in a match to start seeing if I could get the CSGO2 beta and my team mates are riffing on each other, saying faggot and even nigger no problem in an online shooter in 2023. Nobody tries to kick them, there are no mods to screech at them and be petty. Despite Valve's problems their own servers are basically unrestricted. It's nice to see.

CS:GO community will always be better than TF2's in these days. No joke.
 
Ok, dumb question, but why are kids still playing TF2? It barely gets any updates, it's not a battle royale nor a sandbox, and yet there are players born after game release. How do they even find about it?

Unfortunately the method by which these kids find TF2 is also the cause of its downfall in playerbase quality: it's acquired a reputation online as the WACKY WHOLESOME XD FUNNI GAME with LE PAN and LE DEMOKNIGHT TF2 and ENGINEER GAMING.

Engineer Gaming was fun during late-2020 to early-2021 until it overstayed its welcome afterwards by a bunch of children

The other class-based FPS games have done things to discourage people from playing them, thus drawing those people to TF2 instead. Overwatch 2 1.5 showcases how Blizzard today is a shell of itself. Rainbow6 Siege also has similar issues, and Ubisoft's financial situation doesn't help. Valorant, while under a more stable game company, also has the same forced trend deals that Overwatch has. Paladins never had a big player base to begin with, and Hi-Rez was known for (and still is) making stupid decisions that drive players away. Battleborn, Dirty Bomb, and LawBreakers are all dead.

Not FPS here, but Guild Wars 2 is still doing well with online play these days.

TF2 has beeen popular with kids since the game went free-to-play
Kids like first-person shooters and free shit. The latter of which they don't need any money to buy, Which is good for a kid, since kids can't earn any income
