Lollipop Chainsaw was a Suda 51 and WB, James Gunn, title published at the tail end of the seventh gen around the same time many hidden gems were. In the mess of gaming news, the title will apparently be seeing a remake soon with an estimated release of 2023.

Recently, this screenshot was posted depicting the new design of Juliet in the remake:

Personally not so big on the face change as she looks a little too babyish, but the rest looks great.

I wanted to make a thread for it as I recently got to play the game this past year while going back to try some PS3 titles I missed. The game may not be profound, but it was a great time, so I hope this remake gives the game some more attention. Sadly, it seems that marketing is pretty scarce at the moment, likely due to WB’s current predicament. Most probably didn’t even see the remake announcement that occurred during E3.

As far as we know, the game has no involvement from Gunn or Suda it seems. They have also talked about going in a realistic direction, which is off-putting. Hopefully the final product is not as concerning as the statements make it.

But why? The controls were ass, as per Suda 51 usual. The story was ass. The costumes were cute.

I'll never forget the stupid instant death sequences. The worst one being the one in Level 2. The birthday cake, the game magically disables your ability to lock on to enemies. Which would be fine, but this is one of the two situations, in the entire game, that you need precise control over where the enemies are flying as you combo them. Or you can just instant-death combo spam that sequence, and it goes on forever. Longer than it has any right to. I fell out of love with this game when my PS3 bricked and I couldn't recover the save data. Early Copy protected save games didn't fucking transfer to the cloud. The game was short, but doing it four times to reunlock all the shit was a no-go for me.

Anyway, the entirety of the game is completely unacceptable for the faggots that run the 2020s.
- Casual date rape jokes.
-Juliet's creepy mannerisms, which were not okay then, will especially not be okay today.
-The suicide stuff.
-the Goth stuff, which so many people won't even get anymore.

The worst thing I can imagine about the reboot? My favorite character in the game being whorifed by e-thots. I was happy, now I am sad.

All these things exist in Elden Ring though.

It is a style over substance game, but it was fun for being such.

As for why a remake, the game has gotten a random resurgence in popularity as a PS3/360 hidden gem. It is sort of a nostalgia game you never played I guess. I see this game and American Mcgee’s Alice Return To Madness bunched up a lot now as these weird cult fandoms for old yesteryear games. I decided to play both and I get it. They are games that didn’t get the attention they should have and titles that would never be made in the modern gaming landscape.

Lollipop reminds me of the early 2010s, and my child years of watching Pan, something Skull Girls also captures decently well.

I think we just kinda miss this era tbh.

Even though they're Japs and therefore still less effected by current year nonsense, I am still shocked that they not only didn't uglify the character design, but they didn't even keep it the same, but rather seem to have actually waifu'd it up even further.

It's definitely on the right path so far, if they can avoid censorship and improve the gameplay I'll support it. I never played Lollipop Chainsaw so hopefully this ends up as the definitive version.

takingbetsonhow they will make the remake worse

Wasn't Lollipop Chainsaw some high school girl's fantasy?

They make her trans.

Was curious if Japanese devs are working on it as it was a western collaboration. Dragami Games will be developing it, so thankfully it will be Japanese heads. According to them, they want to make the game as faithful as possible and were just going to do a remaster till licensing got in the way. My guess is that it will be the same game but with music switched out based on what they could or couldn’t relicense.

I do hope for more content though. I also wonder if WB is still attached as I saw nothing about them in the article I read, nor did I see Suda?

As someone who loved and played the shit out of the original, I'm still baffled as to why they didn't just make a sequel. I do appreciate that this is meant to be more of a remaster than anything and that they're trying to keep it as close to the original as possible, but I'm still very concerned.

No involvement from Suda or James Gunn are major red flags. A more realistic approach sounds like a terrible idea, and perhaps the worst loss is the majority of the soundtrack. The music was a big part of what made the original game so fun, and given the Jimmy Urine controversy, they're definitely going to replace the tracks he wrote as well.

Goes without saying that I'm not excited for this and don't expect it to be nearly as good.

Glad to know the most important factor of this game that I'll probably never pick up is the fact that they didn't bump down the MC's breast size. Feminism takes another L yet again 😎

Did this game really need a remake? While I appreciated the scenario and everything, I found the combat clunky... and if you're gonna let me play as a chainsaw wielding cheerleader whose entire bloodline is defeating evil shit... I need better combat.

The game is stuck on seventh gen hardware, so I would say yes based on that.

It seems the remake is more of a remaster that turned into a remake after licensing troubles. It was just supposed to get the game on current hardware.

I assume the type of people who would make those complaints are also people who would screech about Elden Ring being too difficult.
It's really only difficult at the start but once you start earning items and can access a few of the soul farming places you can really build up your character to be a power house. That's usually part of the fun with Souls games.

It's like a hot bath, once you get in it doesn't seem that hot and you acclimate.

I like the game but it may be the least good of Grasshopper Manufacture's action games. It feels a lot slower than No More Heroes and Killer is Dead. Stunning zombies so you could decapitate several of them at once was tedious.

It is almost inevitable there will be changes and removed content beyond the soundtrack, and the soundtrack itself may get butchered enough to ruin it for me, so I don't have high hopes for this. I'm still interested in seeing how it turns out.

Lolipop Chainsaw is considered a hidden gem?

Or is this more zoomer retards finally playing shit outside of Fortnite and trying to pretend it was hidden the whole time?

Like I've got fairly normie taste when it comes to everything past the PS2, but I remember there being plenty of coverage of Lollipop Chainsaw.
