Lolipop Chainsaw is considered a hidden gem?

Or is this more zoomer retards finally playing shit outside of Fortnite and trying to pretend it was hidden the whole time?

Like I've got fairly normie taste when it comes to everything past the PS2, but I remember there being plenty of coverage of Lollipop Chainsaw.
I remember it's release was super publicized. Ads were everywhere online, IGN had a contest for who would be the official cosplayer for the game's promotion at cons which Jessica Nigri won, then she got kicked out of PAX for the outfit being "too lewd" (which honestly seemed like a publicity promo move).

Pretty much every major game channel gave it a feature. Also, Anita Sarkeesian whined about it a lot at the time too.

Say whatever you want about the game, but it was anything but hidden. It was fucking everywhere, especially for a game collaboration between a niche Japanese developer and James Gunn.

I think it got lost over time more than anything. Compare it to Batman Arkham City a year prior and that game definitely held more staying power in general gaming discourse.

It is not a game most think of when asked to talk about 7th gen games. It doesn't help that many were likely not old enough to hear about it when it was making the rounds. It came and went so to speak.

Nowadays, seventh gen nostalgia is kicking in and many are going back and trying games they missed for whatever reason. Lollipop and Alice are two titles that are now grabbing niche communities. Out of the 7th gen comebacks, I have also seen Ratchet & Clank, Little Big Planet, PlayStation All-Stars, Batman for the bazillionth time, and really just a lot of PS3 shit.

just a midcore hack and slash game that is commer bait. already heard talks about how they going to censor some of the costumes like the sea shell bikini.
Calling it coomer bait may or may not be fair, since the fanservice was clearly tongue and cheek, but if they sensor the game, then they missed the point of it, and this title will flop, as the fanservice was part and parcel of the experience. It be like censoring Bayonetta. It defeats the point.

There's no point remaking the game if they censor it.

This. No one talks about it anymore and the small fanbase that it once had has completely died, so it's hidden in the sense that it's faded from its time in the spotlight. The game may have gotten good publicity, but it was only relevant at the time for being something new and different. That and all the simps thirsting over Jessica Nigri's cosplay.

Bump because it looks like they have changed their mind and are just doing a remaster based on the feedback from the fans.

Sounds like it was always meant to be. It switched from remaster to remake to back to remaster. The only reasoning given for a remake was just licensing, so maybe they were able to get the music back?

This entire project has been so tight-lipped and hard to follow. We have sparse images of it and no gameplay/trailer. Makes me question what is going on.

Good, that's the way it should've been from the beginning. Odd they've been staying so quiet about it though.

This is a game i never expected to see again, it was a fun rental back then, but i literally 100% it in a week and never looked back after that. Game does have a killer soundtrack though

I read somewhere that after receiving all the feedback saying “don’t remake it you’re just going to ruin it” because neither Gunn nor Suda were involved they just remastered it instead

I’m not complaining, at least not yet. Gonna wait for the physical release though.

A bit disappointed. I was expecting better textures but it looks like they made the bare minimum and added a censored version for some reason.
Curious, how old is the protagonist? I imagine it's censored because it's a scantily clad high school female.

The original already had a censored version to get a lower age rating in Japan, and Premium Edition let you toggle between the two versions. Pink blood, less gore, bosses have black wounds instead of red. You can see some of the same censorship in the trailer.
The original game has a goof where the prerendered flashback cutscenes always show the censored version. It would be nice if they fixed that but I doubt they will.
The main concerns are if they censor anything (non-optionally, like dialogue) and if the soundtrack is completely butchered. And the costumes too I guess, but I liked the original costumes more than the collab ones.

Lollipop Chainsaw is one of my favorite games. Not for the gameplay which was still pretty good but for being memorable. There was nothing quite like it back then and even more so now. Not sure how excited I should get for this though. Some of the promotional images look good but the rest look like a typical modern remaster which isn't much more than dragging and dropping the texture files to an upscaler than pasting them back.

I just want to own the physical copy like I did with the original, not sure where you're getting "hype" from.

Do they even do physical copies anymore? Especially for remasters?

Recently, this screenshot was posted depicting the new design of Juliet in the remake:

Personally not so big on the face change as she looks a little too babyish, but the rest looks great.

The face looks like its going in the direction of the more japanese style animeish face which dominates eastern games. Which is fine. I just wish there was more representation for western style attractive female faces but the entire western industry stopped doing that so we're left with just what the east does and they never really break from their art style and this leaks on to the amateur and hobbyist scene. So everybody that still tries to draw attractive females these days gives them an asian anime face now.
