Sonic CD?
Level design?
Hah, out of the 4, CD's levels are the absolute worst. Every level is "move for a tenth of a second, hit a speed trap, move for a tenth of a second, hit a speed trap". That criticism can be leveled at most Sonic games, but in CD in particular it's as blatant as can be.

Nothing important would break from adding Knuckles. The reality is, they're just fucking lazy and I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up as dlc later. Considering these are Whitehead versions of the games, I highly doubt it's difficult to add Knuckles to CD at all since you no longer have to worry about Genesis specific programing quirks or language. It's probably as simple as importing the code and sprites for Knuckles from Sonic 2 or 3 and giving him a few tweaks (such as a slight speedup for time travel). They would have to go through and reprogram touchable tiles on every level to add a "climbable" flag, but that's much less work than it sounds like, again, they're just fucking lazy.
the CD levels are great thats the only reason I hit disagree. Knuckles wuld probably do great in CD given it's exploration focus is similar to the SA1/2 knuckles stages.

I tend to like the first world in a Sonic game, but quickly lose interest after that.
the second stages were my shit as a kid, at least for 1 and 2.

Marble zone really nicely does the whole "venturing into ancient Pompeii ass looking ruins" thing it was going for, but internet critics constantly bitch about it because "IT'S NOT FAST SONIC SHOULD BE FAAAAAST!!!" instead of just chilling with the whole cool dead civilization filled with booby traps ambience of the place. Literally every stage before and after it save for labyrinth zone is generally fast paced. The level itself isn't even super slow most of the people I see bitching about the speed of it in current year are playing the version that adds in the sonic 2 spindash and are just spamming the shit out of it crashing into the lava and getting pissed, as well as sometimes not even touching ring or shield boxes. it's fucking baffling.

Chemical plant had fucking TUUUUBES!!! the water timed platform segment that killed my child ass constantly but I endured it all for those funky tube cities and sick ass music.

I like Sonic's campaign in SA1. Musical nods to earlier games, banging soundtrack, the fun and charismatic hub world. It’s rough around the edges but still a beautiful game. After that, it gets hazy.

Tails/Robotnik levels suck. Sonic '06 has some of the worst levels in the series. And Forces is Star Wars-levels of divisive.

I am once again hitting dislike solely because I like the shootbang combo based time trial levels of SA1 and SA2. The SA@ ones expanded on the concept in a way I've always found really fucking fun.

Also the music is fucking amazing
Seriously this fucking shit fits perfectly with the gameplay action and animations.

06 is still IRREDEEMABLE DOODOO FECES though

Video of all the 3D Islands from the Sonic Origins Japanese website.

They look kind of off with how simplified they are but they are still a neat additions.

Anyways, I would like to point out that they made yet another reference to The Devil of the Sonic universe.

There might be one thing that would break: the Metal Sonic fight in Stardust Speedway. Given how you're practically required to run at full speed just to get ahead of the death pointies behind you, ole' Knuckles might run into some issues in keeping up,
Funny... Mania had something similar, but all you had to do was spin dash, get to a point where you have an up-curve and then just activate glide if you wanted to.

CD does have a spindash (a very gimped one, but it exists). If CD is the Whitehead version that has a proper spindash, Knuckles wouldn't have any issues with the Metal Sonic battle.

So according to SEGA in regards to Sonic 1, you start at one end of the island, go to the other end of the island, then go BACK the same way you came from to go to a stage that was RIGHT NEXT to the first stage you entered?

Sonic has ADHD and doesn't care for doing things in an specific order.

It's kinda dog shit yeah, compared to the gamegear world map which despite having simpler graphicsand different stages shows it as a steady climb up to the enemy base. Scrap brain being on the side of the mountain instead of on the top gets me feeling really fucking OCD like lmao.
Also damn the little planet menu is worse because little planet is supposed to be in low orbit over a lake with a fair bit of distance on the chain. The way that menu frames it the planet is BEHIND the lake rather than above it, and it fucking annoys me.
That and chemical plants tubes existing without the city surrounding it.
EDIT: ALSO LAUNCH BASE NOT BEING ON THE COAST BUT IN SOME RANDOM CRATER
Sonic 3 had a clear progression from one side of the island to the other, this makesit seem like they just didn't notice the fuckyou large eggman head upon entry.
The death egg is also undersized as the intro to sonic and knuckles as well as magma reef show it's big enough to clog a fucking volcano.

>When little planet is bigger than the death egg in map comparison
SAD
Remember how sonic 4: episode 2's whole plot was eggman rebuilt the death egg AROUND little planet instead of just chaining it up again? Sure it ended on a clffhanger and they never finished it due to the reception of the 1st one but yeah that was a thing that understood that both that little planet is pretty fucking small and the death egg is large enough to fit around it. Angel island is bigger than both of those but int his map if you put the 2 side by side little planet could fucking crush both the death egg and angel island instantly if the chunks of eggman's base he setup on it fell off like they did at the end of sonic CD.

> The Sega Ages versions of Sonic 1 and 2 for Switch will remain playable. The same immunity applies to Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis library for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.
OK Sega, what is it about Nintendo that you're leaving them alone but deciding to fuck with everyone else?
Maybe Sega gets a cut of Switch Online revenue by having those games on there?

TFW when the only legal ways to play vanilla sonic 1 and 2 options in current year are wither another digital game collection port or a fucking subscription service
Of course this doesn't take into account other game collections or the originals used, but the fucking reddit ass "RETRO COLLECTOR" consoomer branch has ruined used game buying with their insane habit of claiming old games that aren't even rare are totally worth over 100 dollars and that shit keeps getting worse with people like that company that did weird shit to claim an unopened unopened mario bros case is worth millions.
Really feels like companies are doing everything in their power to price everyone out of anything these days and make inferior but more expensive products.
