@Spellskite I forgot all about Franklin, guess it was because Schultz drew him as a normal kid..... and not a special snowflake that everyone else had to defer to.
I guess a better point would be that the long running strips keep free of social satire except in the broadest sense and don't create strawmen just to rip them apart for the enjoyment of those on the other side. People like to mock Garfield for being bland and unfunny and that Jim Davis was a sellout. Know what else he was? A quiet guy who was content to collect his paychecks and go home without becoming an insufferable douche.
