  • No, the franchise is dead.

  • NO, A FOLLOWUP WHERE LARA PREACHES BOUT SLAY QUEEN DEFEATING EVIL ORANGE MAN

  • who cares, square enix killed another franchise

I'll take Underworld's bad camera over Anniversary's grappling sections (seriously, FUCK great pyramid).
Underworld deserved better. It was rushed in production because Anniversary was shoehorned mid-development, so they had to change the story, put Natla in it (there was a different villain originally) and cut loads of content and levels (some were later released as DLCs that are still Xbox exclusives). This is why the story felt so anti-climatic, especially stuff about Avalon and Lara's mother. There were improvements like Lara's acrobatics, advanced platforming and less QTEs, but considering the devs were using a different engine they needed more than a year to complete the game (RIP Kyle). Anniversary suffered from rushed production as well - half of bosses were literally removed and replaced with QTEs. LAU trilogy arguably needs remasters more than classics, at least improving collision.

Anyway, it's a sad day for Camilla's fans, but who cares

They finally cast a broad with big tits to play Lara and its for a fucking cartoon..

You know, this image here really shows the mentality behind why the reboot games feel so colorless, imo.

Because we all know you have to look exactly like a character to identify with them.

Women in games design are a legitimate liability.
Except there are no game designers there, just "critics" and a writer.

In other words, they whine about lack of female representation in game design, but didn't bother to do the hard work game design would entail and instead just bitch about sexy women in vidya on social media.

"Games Parasites" might be a more apt term.

Why the unholy fuck is she not the live action Lara. I've been asking this for years.

True, the grappling was pretty bad at some points. I had a lot of trouble with the wall running and knowing if I was high enough to make the jump. There was a section in the second Egypt level where I spent at least a minute trying to reach a ledge because it was a wall run but there was a spinning blade in the middle so I couldn't take my time and swing back for more height. This was made even better by the fact that when I finally made it, I ended up missing the jump after it and falling to my death so I had to do it again.

The central shaft bit in the great pyramid was also fucking annoying because you had a grappling section AND you're time-limited AND you have to deal with the Atlanteans too. There was one point where I got blown over the edge by an enemy and before I could lift myself up, the platform had retracted and I got knocked off. I was a little pissed off at that.

They gave her a more realistic look, fewer up-the-butt shots, and an actual backstory
Excuse me, what?? She already had a backstory. All the reboot did was make her more boring. And I love how one of them brings up the "Just because you're attractive doesn't mean you can't be badass" point then still implies that she can't connect with Lara because of how she looks.

Also that art style is absolute ass, jesus christ.

Yeah, especially since one of Core Design's level designers was a woman, Heather Gibson, and Lara's original biography was also written by a woman, Vicky Arnold, who was also the story writer for TR2.
Not that FemFreq bitches care about this shit, it's not like they play games anyway.

What a schizophrenic article. Classic Lara is bad because she has big boobs, but it's also okay to be pretty and have big boobs. Why isn't Lara black? Here's Alicia Vikander; her A cups make her realistic. We need more black female characters.

Apparently liberalism is like a virus that blinds lefties to anything but trannies and blacks. Seriously, shouldn't they pushing for a Laura Cruz game since Latinos make up the second largest majority in America and outnumber blacks everywhere else? No no, we need more black females!

I just hope the new anime isn't animated by Studio Trigger (as with the new Star Wars anime).

no, powerhouse animation
Considering my overwhelming feelings on the Castlevania TV show (with the first season being quality, and everything else being trash), I can't be hopeful about this. I'll have to wait til the trailer drops.

Tomb raider's preference for boob size never made any sense, you're looking at her from behind 99% of the time in any game, at the very least they should make her ass bigger.

Posting in this thread because I'm in the middle of popping my Tomb Raider cherry with the Anniversary remake of the original. I'm halfway through (beat Peru and Greece) and honestly, it's pretty damn good so far, I have to say. Story's intriguing enough to keep you going without over-bearing on the gameplay, gameplay itself is a nice mixture of combat, puzzles, and exploration, and Lara herself (her classic version, anyway) is a shining example of a "strong female character" done correctly.

Also, hot DAMN, does this game look nice for a game made 14 years ago. Will update with my full thoughts once finished.

You know, if there's anything I like about older games, its that they knew they were never going to look anywhere near photo-realistic, and settled with things that look good enough. As a result, you get things that look simply better than modern games because you don't have horrid texture popping and mipmap issues. That unironically looks better than modern Assassin's Creed games for the simple reason the carvings on the temple wall are distinct and visible without needing to take up multiple gigs of VRAM.

Limitations of technical possibilities ( no photo-realism) gets you a solid art design which encompasses everything. It stands the test of time. Well it should at least, lots of games try but fail.
I don’t like the new tomb raider ones much and I played the rise of the tomb raider quite a bit. Up until you get thrown in an ice river the world I played felt as one. A cohesive well made part. After that it went bonkers and ended in a fucking Castle, because it has to.

Tomb Raider was one of my favorite games growing up. It was something I'd play with the whole family. Even my old ass grandparents played it with me on the PlayStation. The puzzling and platforming felt tough at the time. I remember calling into a gaming hotline for a walkthrough of a level once. But shit changed big time when the 360 came out. Sort of like with Prince of Persia. The platforming and difficulty vanished. Maybe part of it was growing up as well but man I'd love it if they tried to return to their roots. I want to go back to doing handstands every time I pull myself up a ledge or having a fucking heart attack when I hear a boulder drop behind me.

The Anniversary trilogy is underrated and still my favorite TR era.
