YouTube is suffering a serious outage – with thousands reporting issues with the Google-owned video service.

YouTube users have been confronted with error messages as they tried to login, upload or watch content on the hugely-popular video platform.

It appears that the popular video streaming site went offline at around 2.20am BST, with thousands unable to access content. Many are reporting seeing 'Error 500' when attempting to access content.

Social media sites have been flooded with complaints, with streams of YouTube users in the US and UK saying the Google-owned site was not working for them.

Independent website Down Detector, which measures social mentions around a certain topic to track outages across the globe, shows users reporting problems across the UK, Europe and the United States.

Enraged customers have flooded social media to complain about the problems.

Currently, the website is either not loading, or when it does, refusing to play any videos. Only showing an error message.

Clicking the learn more link simply takes users to the following info:

YouTube video streaming issues can be caused by many factors. By troubleshooting your internet or device connection, you may be able to play your videos again.

You may be experiencing a video streaming issue if you’ve seen one of these notifications
  • An error has occurred.

Personally, given that no videos are working across the whole site, we're inclined to think something very bad went wrong, but on YouTube's end.

yeah Canada here and I wondered wat the actual F is going on. Now I know.

I do get the error but on a second try I can watch a video (from a direct link), but I can see nothing else. Comments don't appear, like/dislike is invisible, and the recommended videos on the side are greyed out.

Hopefully this means that when things are restored, Jake Paul and Amberlynn will be piles of ash.
In any event, I'm sure Amberlynn will compare the severity of this event to living without insulin from her eventual diabetes.

This has ruined my evening. Now I have no choice but to listen to music on bandcamp. This basically puts me on the same oppression level as a trigender white millennial with blue hair (i.e. no one is more oppressed).
 
Oh no YouTube is down, time to download high quality album rips of what I want to listen to instead and listen to that, ad-free and higher quality and with no songs missing/being shit quality.
 
was on Apple TV watching some vids, then went to refresh and Youtube was unavailable. then checked my tablet, also down
then checked my router, cause sometimes it crashes but router was good.
Then maybe just my part of California
But then I check Kiwifarms, and its down worldwide
