Current - OnePlus Nord N200 5G

Fucker seems to be a carrier exclusive phone though. Even though it is "unlocked" it is unable to be used on a carrier other than T-Mobile.

Anyone ran into this? If its unfixable without hassle I'll just sell it for ~70ish bucks and buy a used Pixel 6a.

I currently us the Galaxy Z fold 5. I really like it because I primarily play games or watch movies while im working. Pretty good performance and I dont have an annoying seam in the middle of my screen when folded out. It's gonna be a long time hopefully but I was thinking of downsizing a bit. Has anyone used a RedMagic phone? I was watching a Ruben Sim video and he did an ad for it and it caught my attention. If its got good reviews maybe I'll get one of those.

Unihertz Titan 2. I am apprehensive about it and think its feature set could be a bit better

Current - Samsung s23 Ultra. Traded for it with my s20. Fuck AT&T, they jew'd everyone and got rid of autopay (or paperless) discount. Used to travel a lot for work, got to go to vacation spots and took lots of pictures, needed the pen as we did digital signoffs. So there was good reasons behind getting it at the time, but not now.

Next - Pixel 9a with GrapheneOS. I don't need all the features most smartphones provide. I don't really take many pictures with my phone anymore. It's cheap and will do what I need it to do, I'm on my laptop and PC more than my phone now. I should've been privacy minded years ago, but after a lot of research and school, I'm now at that point.

Gonna use a hotspot for my internet, Calyx Institute. Since they're non-profit part of your payment is also tax deductible*. *I gotta reconfirm this

Current- Galaxy S20 FE

About the only thing I hate about it is there is no headphone jack plug. I'm going to keep it until it dies

It seems when it comes to Android, the first consideration is whether the device can be rooted or not. You don't even consider the hardware specs before you learn if you can gain full control of the software.

All the phones I used in the past were ineligible for rooting. I'm committed the next purchase I'll check beforehand. But is there an easy method to check this? Trawling through the XDA forums for every purchase consideration is not exactly convenient. I'm thinking a wiki that prints models with root capability.

Any thoughts?
My core reason for wanting root is to raze pre-installed apps like Google fucking Play off the phone.

in a vacuum the phone is actually really nice and in many ways I enjoy it more than my BlackBerry key2. but they shot themselves in the foot by showing off all of these nifty features that give you the impression that they're going to be useful and they're just half baked chinese sophistry that you ignore

If it has Lineage OS then you can root with magisk.
Magisk install tutorial

Also rooting borks anything Google related. You can say goodbye to banking apps and such if you do this.
You can use usb debugging with adb to delete apps you don't want. You cqn't delete everything though as you might brick your phone if you delete something essential.

Motorola G72. Overall not a bad phone. The mic seems to do some sort of automatic noise gating / filtering thing that makes any audio you record sound like absolute shit.

I really like the "karate chop to turn the flashlight on" motion, I use it every single day at least 5 times a day and I wish other phones had the same feature.

For a next phone I'd like to try a Pixel. I'm not sure about the price jump vs what you actually get. I'd like a better camera but at the same time I'm not a photographer, so who cares.

I've been using GrapheneOS on a Pixel 8a for about six months now and I'm pretty happy with it. Not really much different from stock Android, just without all the bloatware/spyware/adware bullshit. I mostly use lightweight FOSS stuff in its place, and do most stuff through Fennec with a bunch of adblock + anti tracking extensions. It's one of those situations where there's so much bullshit that I don't have to fuck with anymore that I forget how good I have it until somebody reminds me by complaining about it. I can still use jewgle stuff in the rare instance that I want to, like maps. I thought about rooting it as well but I really have no reason to.

My only major complaint is that it seems to be pretty aggressive about unloading stuff when I switch apps, e.g. youtube pages will unload when I open up maps sometimes, which is annoying. I assume it's a resource management thing. I might switch to a higher end or newer Pixel if the memory is appreciably better for that reason.

I've also been eyeing the Librem 5 even though it kinda sucks.

There's a non-zero chance that my next cheap chinkshit phone in case I break the current one might be based on Mediatek. Really not looking forward to fiddling with settings in hopes of making a generic LineageOS image work on it.

I picked up a Xiaomi phone because it was offering midrange value for a decent price. Unfortunately that price included having to deal with MIUI/HyperOS and I plan to go for a phone that uses an OS that is not full of ads on fucking system apps of all things. I was thinking Samsung or Nothing but what has people's experience been with various brands?

I would have just bought a used Oneplus instead tbh. Xiaomi is just too annoying to deal with. Can't even unlock the bootloader without doxing yourself to chinks.

Current phone: Samsung Galaxy S23. Not many complaints at all, however recently there's been a problem where if I am in a phone call it will sometimes not pick up my voice, but I can hear the other person every time.

Next phone: Samsung Galaxy S26. Only hangup I have is that it's slightly larger than the S23 and I already have small hands.
