I can't believe a leak this big is this fucking boring, how the fuck are Sony and Xbox spending billions on acquisitions and still barely churning out the occasional half baked slop?
Corporate inertia kills innovation. Things slow down, more diversity hires, the teams get less control over their games, and said games are subject to focus groups to make them as safe as possible. Can't have risk when money is on the line, gotta dump all the cash into one pot.

Funny how the discussions in this thread are way more informative and well behaved than the "real" gaming forums. TrannyEra and NeoFAG are filled to the brim with turbo autist manchildren and shills, ready to go to battle for the honor of their dedicated big corporation. Sure we have some sperging going on here but nothing too offensive. Good stuff.

People aren't buying Nintendo products because they are well made (they tend to be average at best), they buy them because they are <BRAND> and a child friendly one. Since most of the adults have consumed a Nintendo product throughout his life. A company trying to compete Nintendo in that market is pretty much doomed to fail as it's basically competing against a monopoly who goes entirely on brand recognition rather than quality, and children would probably prefer to play any psychologically addictive games on their smartphone than an actual game for console.

You are right that the best Sony and MS can do is make their exclusives more regularly, but the exclusives need to be larger than life to attract people, as the companies' online shops are filled with small company shit that might be good and might be exclusive, but it isn't something that people care about because people are attracted to big graphic names. It's the usual case of gamers being shitty consumers.
People buy Nintendo because there is a guarantee they will find fun good games regardless of their age/sex, and the Switch itself has a massive amount of titles between the first-party and third-party offerings, in spite of the weaker hardware compared to the other 9th gen consoles. The hybrid handheld format also revolutionized things enough that we see other companies like Valve with the Steam Deck mimicking the concept (and it works too).

Nintendo did indeed cultivate its image and mascot characters to the point everyone IRL, including grandparents and their pets, knows about them. But this also raises the question about what Playstation and Xbox have been doing during all those years? You can't say they're always doomed to compete against Nintendo when they actually have done no fruitful efforts in the first place. And the duo seem to have learnt nothing from their mistakes, only doubling down instead, and this thread is just another example how out of touch they can be with the public.

Japanese game companies dominating the worldwide market as of now didn't just happen by pure dumb luck.

Nintendo has been gradually shedding the kid friendly image for a while, and marketing itself for all ages.
That was solely Nintendo of America and the americans/anglos themselves pushing this kid-friendly rhetoric, Nintendo itself as a japanese company has always been all-ages.

Turns out that being on a forum that makes fun of retards on the Internet, which also doesn't restrict freedom of expression like the usual places on Internet do these days, has its perks. Discussions are more natural as a result too, even if we have our own peculiar oddities sometimes.

Digital Foundry did a long special on the leaks. According to a poll the "all digital" shit is causing the biggest outrage among their supporters.

The whole swappable battery thing is retarded regardless
You're retarded for thinking it's a bad thing in the first place. First, if your controller only has a built-in li-ion battery, it will inevitably go bad and you'll have a hard time replacing it like with the PS3 controller. Second, by having support for regular AA batteries, you get to have replaceable batteries without getting locked into the vendor's ecosystem. Get four Eneloops and you can quickly change them mid-game without having to play wired or waiting for the thing to charge up.

Now, if MS manages to keep that, and make the controller serviceable, AND have the analog sticks user replaceable, AND GuilKit makes Hall effect analogs for it, then we will have a very decent controller for PC gaming straight from Microsoft, assuming that by using recycled plastics they haven't made that thing destined to fall apart in years from the time you buy it.

The only thing I'll admit is that having the batts bulge out on the X360 pad was dumb. But having that little carrier box for AA's and being able to quickly load up a fresh set mid-game was a great idea and it sucks that they haven't tried to do something similar with the XBO redesign. Or even a battery clip so they stay together to quickly load them in easily.

You misunderstood what I said, if you read the rest you would see that I agree with you, maybe I worded it poorly. I said its retarted that they are shilling it like its a new thing when the 360 HAD swappable AA batteries, but then they removed them with the Xbone.

One of the first game announced for the Switch was SMT V. Nintendo has been gradually shedding the kid friendly image for a while, and marketing itself for all ages.
Not really, their majority content is still PG, having some edgy game won't change their image (like the Wii had No More Heroes).

Nintendo games are peak consoomer media "buy the same recycled shit with different coat of paint, forget about it, and then buy next product". It will be indistinguishable than billion other indie copies if it didn't have the IPs and higher production budget. While the industry globohomo is bad, I don't find Nintendo's gaming stagnation any better.

The entire gaming sphere has been almost dead ever since COVID, not just Sony and MS. And are we really arguing for fucking mascot characters? Do we really need to bring Nathan Drake out of retirement? More Ratchet and Clank? I fucking hate how everything is a series nowadays, no new IP. And Nintendo is extra guilty in that.

Japanese game companies dominating the worldwide market as of now didn't just happen by pure dumb luck.
I like Japanese media, but gaming over there has been very bad the last 2 generations, with the gacha annihilating a ton of shit. It's better than the west, but not by a lot.

And the thing is that they didn't, they only made it more cumbersome because they threw the whole quickswap idea out of the window. No matter if you use their battery or AA's with the XBO controller, you have that stupid cover in the way and it's not as easy to do, but you still can use AA's with your controller. I have the Series X controller for my PC and I run it off of Eneloop Pros, and I use a shitty Bluetooth dongle and it just works.

Basically they're upselling the thing that their current controllers already have because that's ESG points, even though it's something that they've had ever since their first wireless controllers.

Wait you are right and I was brain farting, for some reason I was thinking they removed the AA on the Xbone controllers entirely. Shows how much I touch my Xbox lol.

Also, going back to my complaints about Microsoft making the ultimate controller.

They're missing one single element that'll make their controller the ultimate PC gaming solution, and that's pressure sensitive buttons.

The OG Xbox had them, PS2 and PS3 had them, and if they bothered to bring those back for this one, with all of it's other features, it would be basically perfect for all use cases, from regular PC gaming to emulating older PlayStation games that utilized those.

Nowadays your best bet is to get a used DualShock 3 because absolutely no one makes controllers with pressure sensitive buttons anymore. So if they've managed to put that in it would be fantastic. Plus, if you're a PC gamer, you could try doing some interesting tweaks for various games that support analog input from any XInput element.

For example, binding the clutch in BeamNG to your left bumper and being able to only lightly depress it so you can roll on clutch only without doing weird binds to the left analog stick. Or perhaps do more interesting binds with half presses and such. There's so much potential in this yet Sony out of all companies noped out of that idea with the PlayStation 4.

Oh boy another direct to cloud push. Nevermind all those have failed badly so far.
Never underestimate the ability of a businessman to make the most retarded choices. The ones we hear about are usually the ones who make good choices.
Ohhhh so that’s how Phil’s going to deal with the console wars. Just buy up all the competition, what a wholesome big chungus true pro gamer move Mr. Spencer.
Yeah, the tendency to monopolize is one of the big problems with capitalism. That being said, the alternative is way worse, so I'll take this over starving.

Being bought out by Microsoft and becoming a publicly traded company would be the worst outcome for customers. Then it becomes fuck the customers, only the shareholders matter. Good thing Gabe still has a grudge against Microsoft and seems to be happy with the current wealth he has.
I'll let Gaben rape my wallet all he wants as long as he never sells to Microsoft. Those fuckers need to stay away from my beloved Steam and my extensive library of games.

Absolutely not. Do you actually play videogames after all? My number #1 game franchise, Earth Defense Force, does fit the bill of "recycled shit" by comparison.

I've been completely overwhelmed by recent japanese/asian games of different genres, in addition to some indies, on both PC and Switch. Even the TGS 2023 has many games I'm keeping tabs. My knowledge in moonrunes and my curiosity may help a lot to discover things, but it's not difficult to find out entertaining games these days either.

Just get a PC, all the consoles outside the Switch suck and have nothing exclusive at all, its all on PC now. You can also pirate stuff on a PC.
I have an old 7th Gen i5 and a GTX 1070ti. They both still "work" but its time to upgrade, I think.

As for keeping up with PC hardware "I'm tired boss..." which is why I'm seriously looking into a PS5 and VR2 rig, which would run about what I would want to spend on PC parts.
I'm still a sucker for Gran Turismo even after all of these years. I bought a PS solely for Gran Turismo 2, to hold me until I could afford a PS2 while I was in Highschool, so that I could play Gran Turismo 3.

I have Gran Turismo Sport and the VR rig for PS4, which is basically just good enough to give you a "hit" of proper VR racing, which is one of the best uses for a VR rig imho. I liked what I saw through game play demos, despite the usual complaints of Gran Turismo 7 being grindy as fuck (like any other Gran Turismo), but like any other Gran Autismo its not going to bother me much to get all of my licenses again.

I got a 120 hz 4k TV and nothing to do on it at the moment other than watch YouTube and play upscaled PS4.... The PS5 (like the PS3 before with Blu-Rays) I hear is a pretty good 4k Blu-Ray player, too.

I dunno, I kinda want a HK45C first tho... heh.

No fucking disc drive for either console? I'll stick with my Series X. So sick of companies pushing for digital downloads of everything. These corporate scumbags will do anything to prevent physical media.

I am surprised that they're only just now adding an accelerometer to the controller. Well, that'll be nice when I'm emulating Switch games.

What's the point of a no-disc Xbox Series X, though? Other than more storage, I see no advantages whatsoever. You may as well just get a Series S for half the price.
The new controller looks and sounds like a throwback to the "sixaxis" for PS3.
Goofy

They scoop shit up the way they do so they can go to the investors with a portfolio of literally every IP imaginable.
