There's currently an cloud-based outage related to Xbox One achievements not unlocking. From 2013 to 2017, MS mandated that developers would have achievements trigger through verifying requirements through the cloud rather than locally adding code to unlock achievements through fulfilled requirements.

Yet another one of MS's big-brained examples to never own anything from their services.
Yeah I was playing games offline for the Xbox One for a year and the service not only will just not unlock achievements, once you connect back online its an absolute crapshoot on if you will unlock anything at all. A system that worked just fine on the 360 that they had to fuck up. And the ps4 didn't have this issue. Goddamn amazing work for the past decade MS

There's an even worse example of their cloud based network, that also happens on other systems, where you play a game in offline mode and it saves your progress locally. Then when your internet is restored or you reconnect to their cloud network all of your local files are updated to the cloud versions. Despite the fact that the local files are the more recent ones.So the next time you play the game it loads a save from hours or days ago and erases all of your progress. We've seen complains on various forums and sites over people losing their data on Office projects when the cloud just wipes your progress by overwriting your local files with older cloud versions. Like people traveling for business for two weeks and doing work. Then going back to their home and connecting to their home network and some cloud service wiping all of the work that they have done in the last two weeks. And the usual pajeets on reddit and forums saying "it's your fault for not understanding the cloud".

How the fuck is this even a thing?! Even Steam is able to notice when there is a discrepancy between local and cloud save files and prompts the user to chose which version of the save files are to be kept.

Louis Rossman is right, some companies have rapist mentality and don't even ask for consent or permission before they fuck you in the ass. Figures, the instinct of the Pajeet manifesting itself as code.

I can't say for sure since that's before my time, but I would figure Sega had a better transition as third party compared to MS now. Can you imagine if MS bought Sega back then instead of Rare? I mean the Dreamcast runs on a modified Windows NT (Me?) operating system.

Is Halo actually going to be successful on Playstation or will it end up like Gears of War Reloaded where everyone acts like it's a big deal when it's originally announced but when it actually comes out no one gives a shit? The sales of Gears of War Reloaded were poor on the PS5 and even on Xbox most people only played it on Game Pass and have probably uninstalled it by now. You can say it's because Gears of War Reloaded was a lazy rehash of an old game but it seems like Gears of War and Halo in general are no longer mainstream AAA series that most even care about anymore other than nostalgic older gamers who really only miss both original trilogies. I doubt that any future new entries in the Gears of War or Halo series will even be decent, either. I wouldn't be surprised if Gears of War E Day ends up being a massive dissappointment if it even comes out next year.

Everything special about Halo CE looks like it has been gutted from this Unreal 5 slop remake. Total lack of blood, inclusion of hit markers, terrible redesign decisions, inclusion of a sprint, a 32 round assault rifle, etc... Fuck this remake and fuck Microsoft.

Sega was also constantly just limping along, always in last place if we're not counting the might-as-well-not-existed consoles like the 3DO or CDi. MS is falling a lot harder, because by all logic, having the most resources in money and people, they should be eating everybody's lunch instead of crashing the train at full speed.

MS and train jokes are just too funny now because they are infested with jeets.

The journos are working double time to make it seem like halo on playstation is a watershed "gaming moment", rather than the absolute nothingburger it actually is.

Dreamcast managed to go out with somewhat of a bang with a ton of great games and delivered some incredible experiences like tons of people playing online for the first time with Phantasy Star Online. It's still remembered quite fondly by lots of people for its exclusives, some of which never still had a port or had limited or worse releases on other platforms. There's a lot of nostalgia for what could have been with it.

I doubt there's going to be any warm memories of Xbox Series and the most lasting thought about xbox will be "Man, fuck Don Mattrick and Phil Spencer"

Not to be the Sega defender but Sega wasn't limping along. I might be highlighting what an old man I am, but Sega was one of the Kings of the Arcade scene, which is why the console games always felt so "arcadey", because they were for the most part just console ports of Arcade Games that already existed. With arcades dying, Sega (essentially) died with it - but they weren't strictly a console company and had a number of resources that should have given them a leg up in the market that never really was capitalized on. But it was uncommon to not have an arcade full of Sega arcade games, often multiple copies of each. You'd have some stand alone fighting games (Capcom, Namco), your Rhythm games (Konami) but Sega had a huge footprint in the games space for a very long time. They still technically do today, but it really isn't the same.

Sega from a technical standpoint already did a Gamepass from 1994 though sheer black magic as well, through Sega Channel. They pushed into online much earlier then most consoles, they also did DLC/expansion packs as well in 1994 via the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge - which is still insane to think about to this day. They were extremely ahead of the curve and might be the only company on the planet that was more mismanaged than Xbox because it's shocking they did not succeed.

I'm not sure what legacy Xbox is going to leave, just because it feels like Microsoft already died and it's IPs died with it. No one seems to give much of a shit about Halo, Gears of War, or Fable anymore because those franchises are already run into the ground so it's not like Xbox not existing is going to create this massive hole in the space like it felt like with Sega.

Halo only has its millennial and older audience and I don't see the younger generation interested especially how lackluster the latter entries were. Other than gamers still on nostalgia, I don't see the hype for Halo anymore or going to the PlayStation.

Honestly, I am sad that it's official the console wars are dead. Its always good platforms to have competion. With competition, games will probably be more lackluster and higher the price.

Sega wasn't just limping along...
By the time the Genesis was launching arcades were already in decline. Starting in around 1994 the floor fell out from under them with Sega CD and Game Gear failing to get critical mass, SNES burying the Genesis in release quality, 32X being designed to fail and Saturn being built for 2D instead of 3D. Their home console division spent 8 years in the wilderness.

Halo has sucked for the better part of 15 years, and they've always been quick to tell you that until now.

The appeal to Millennials and older generations is not limited to Halo, it is video games in general that are failing to appeal to a younger audience. The industry is running on nostalgia because that is the audience, there isn't a growing generation of gamers large enough to grow the market, the people who were buying games 10 or 20 years ago are the same that are buying games now.

This is why the numbers are stagnating and is why companies are charging more because the pie isn't getting any bigger. New generations entertain themselves doomscrolling on X and TikTok rather than playing video games.

How many years did Sonic suck before it ended up on GameCube? Sonic being absent on Saturn and being a messy 3D transition on Dreamcast was a big part of Sega ended up where it did, probably the same for Halo.
