My best guess is that they're aiming for a whole "going back to their roots" subtext with the same shade of green from the original Xbox, but it just looks like the sort of logo you'd see in a cross promotion with Mountain Dew.
Again, what is the difference between the current logo and this "redesign?" Other than the color and added accents around the symbol.

If they were trying to do that, the would have reused some form of the OG Xbox's Logo

Though then again... that would just be raping the past for both memberberries, and any level of fucks people even have left for the Xbox brand

The Xbox Dartboard and Surround. 149.95 pounds. Now one slight problem you might notice is a lack of darts with said picture. They wouldn't have an Xbox dartboard without any darts, right?

but I want to see how project helix works, will it use a shell layer to run windows games the way Steamdecks/SteamOS does or will it somehow run natively?
If they've got any fucking brains, it'll be Linux under the hood and running Proton/box64/FEX/dosbox as appropriate to get the games running, since it's literally faster on most hardware than native Windows. I'm not joking -- especially on AMD GPUs, but even increasingly so on NVidia now too, you legitimately get between 1-10% better FPS on Linux on identical hardware than on Windows, even for games that are Windows-native and not built for Linux. Modern Windows is literally that fucking awful. A clean-room reimplementation of the graphics pipeline is faster and less buggy.

Of course, they're jeets, and they do not have any fucking brains, so whatever new Xbox comes out will be doing basically the same shit the previous ones did -- a stripped-down Windows NT kernel and barebones OS (think "enterprise Windows 11 without the regular shell or application hooks and no normal UI, plus Xbox ecosystem libraries and runtimes, and special lockdown policies and integrity checks") and bespoke custom drivers for the hardware. Same general pipeline Windows games run on, with extra hoops to leap through for DRM and Xbox integration.

Which means it'll be dogshit out-of-the-box that will get progressively worse as the console's life fumbles along.

All of this shit is just to maintain the last remaining Xbox hardcores that still haven't figured out the boat sank 5 years ago.

I'm talking about the retards that have an emotional attachment to the brand. The people who would actually buy that fucking dart board.

My friend is one of them. He was so close to saying "fuck it" and building a PC, but now he's going on and on about how "Xbox is back!"

And I'm like "With fucking what? They cancelled all their games except for Pajeet Lesbian Fable"

Everyone involved with making the Xbox he knew and loved has long, long since moved on, and will never be able to work on the brand again due to jeet hiring practices.

Windows 7, the greatest operating system ever made, was developed and released during the halcyon days of Xbox. Windows 11 is now widely considered to be a nightmare, and Windows 12 seems to bring forth nothing but a sense of dread.

Nothing good will come from this announcement, and it’ll be interesting to see how they deal with the elephant in the room: installing and running Steam games.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Blocking Steam and EGS brings them back to square one, making it just another Xbox Series X that can run emulators without buying developer mode and also GOG games, I guess. Steam Machine is more attractive, because it can also have a Windows installation so you can play GamePass games, for the dozen people willing to go to that trouble.

Allowing Steam means it will be a Steam Machine alternative with an annoying Xbox-centric UI that’ll just make it take a little longer to launch Steam than their competitors. Steam Machine is more attractive because it’ll launch faster.

Xbox as a brand is in such bad shape. The whole “Everything is an Xbox” thing flopped horribly. The jeets cannot create, only destroy, and they will continue to eat Microsoft from the inside and make their Brahmin families even richer off the husk of an American megacorporation.

Well if Xbox wants to go extinct faster, that's one way to do it. Their games fucking suck.

Nobody gets an Xbox for their new games specifically. They get an Xbox because a) they have a big library of old games already on the platform, hoping some of them would play better with a new machine and b) some of their friends are on Xbox. Add in some fondness for their controller and that's pretty much it.

The only reason for me (and a few friends) to get Helix would be the Steam+GOG integration. The only one. We're all slowly transitioning to PC anyway after the disappointment of current gen, and a real PC/console hybrid would allow us to a) get a good gaming PC and b) retain and enjoy the old Xbox library with whatever familiar platform functionality involved. However I'd like to enjoy a game, it would be possible and I could make the call myself. But if someone can fuck this up and disappoint everyone, it's Microsoft.

No, we're not going to get a ridiculously expensive machine just to play corporate Halo 9 or whatever fucking Bethesdaslop or Obsidianshit you might have on the way. Or fucking Call of Duty. "But you could use MS Office on it bro" yeah that's really fucking riveting I sure didn't consider that glorious fucking opportunity

Why am I even mad? Anyway fuck Xbox if they think they can block Steam and live.

You could type a 500 word essay on why your opponent sucks afterwards. Bear in mind that MS Office is subscription based if I remember. So, any software on the console would be intangible since it requires an Internet connection.

Yes and no.

You can still buy desktop Office packages, with the caveat that you won't have access to any updates the programs receive, like how Excel is constantly getting new functions and features if you're on the subscription.

PC without Steam is less than a console.
It's also not a PC. By definition, PCs run whatever the fuck you tell them to run, and they STFU and obey. A "personal computer" that can't run Steam because it's intentionally designed not to is explicitly not a PC.

Just for reference, I can literally run Steam on a Linux-only ARM64-based mini PC (a Minisforum MS-R1 in case you're curious) and it can play x86 and amd64 Windows games via dynamic translation.

Creating a computer capable of running user-installed software that cannot run Steam is a technological accomplishment at this point.

Not that they won't try, of course. It'll just be really funny watching the jailbreak.
