It's pretty clear now that no Xbox first party game is off the table, Phil Spencer blatantly lied about they're big games like Indiana Jones and Starfield never releasing on rival platforms. Microsoft and it's investors want they're return on investment for spending 80 billion+ dollars on gaming acquisitions and they want it as soon as possible even if it means the death of the Xbox brand in the long run. No hardware maker can survive the long term without any exclusive content, sure going third party can temporarily increase revenue and profits for they're formerly exclusive games but it's a death sentence for the Xbox hardware itself since people will just buy the games on PC or Playstation and not buy Xbox's any longer ( and this assumes that people on other platforms will actually buy these games considering how bad some of them are ).

People ( rightfully ) mock him all the time for the stupid things he did in the past but crapgamer is right when he says that Phil Spencer is the worst thing that ever happened to Xbox, even Don Mattrick was a better CEO, how can you buy 40+ studios and still have a worse line up of first party games than 2013-2016 era Xbox with just 5 studios in it's roster, it's unbelievable.

Did this shit need it's own thread? There's like two whole hate threads you could post this shit on.
There's no hate on this thread I'm only expressing my disappointment at the current state of things, as a long time fan of Xbox going back to the 360 days the current version of the brand is a shadow of it's former self.
Back then Xbox didn't need to buy garbage companies like ABK just to survive, first party franchises like Halo, Gears and Fable were at the top of the gaming industry and cultural zeitgeist, Forza was dominating the racing genre, Rare even if they weren't as good as during they're N64 days still released good games like Viva Pinata and Perfect Dark Zero instead of just live service crap like Sea of Thieves, Xbox Live Arcade was legendary and vastly superior to the current wave of indie trash flooding the digital store, there's a lot more that could be said but I'll just leave it at that for now.

Gears couldn't survive the Brown era of too-edgy games, Halo's been dogshit ever since Bungie bailed and Fable was literally never well-written and got absurdly stupid by the time people were playing the 4th game.

The best thing Microsoft has ever done is buck break the console market in general by making everything cross-compatible with PCs, even to the point of poaching Sony's exclusives.

I maintain this would have happened regardless because of consoles no longer using bespoke hardware, but if I remember XBox was what started the "use off-the-shelf parts" thing so you end up being right anyway.

Gears only started to go downhill after the original trilogy, that garbage Spin-off Judgement and Gears 4 was when the dark ages for the franchise began , had nothing to do with the games somehow being too brown or edgy, the new games were just mediocre to outright bad that's the problem.

Halo 4 and especially 5 were bad games I definitely agree but Halo Infinite had a lot of potential, unfortunately 343 just had to fuck up the online portion of the game and they never released DLC expansions for the otherwise decent but incomplete campaign (At least Halo Wars 1 and 2 were great games).

Fable 1 and 2 were masterpieces on the same level as Morrowind and Oblivion, things only started to go downhill with Fable 3 with they dumbed down story and the game mechanics to attract a more casual audience ( very similar story to what happened to modern Bethesda games when you think about it ).

By the 4th? It was absurdly stupid by the second game.
I am being somewhat charitable and assuming gamers in general are willing to tolerate some fucking atrocious writing but you're right, the game where the DMPC quasi-antagonist, quasi-party member can literally kill steal the final boss from you is where I wrote the franchise off.

It's funny to think that first one was the best in terms of story and characters. I still love jack of blades.

I'm sorry that you're nostalgic about your console being cool or whatever, but an open computer hardware ecosystem based on standardized interchangeable parts and free software choice is better.

Imagine console warring in 2024.

It's not a bad idea. It's just that they also adopted all the stupid things of PC like patches, game installs, and tiered hardware.

Rare even if they weren't as good as during they're N64 days still released good games like Viva Pinata and Perfect Dark Zero
Perfect Dark Zero was shit. What are you even talking about?

the new games were just mediocre to outright bad that's the problem.
This, but for everything. Xbox sucks because AAA gaming sucks. AAA gaming has been in the shitter since 2014 at least. And while some point to 2008 as the last banger year, 2012 was pretty good if memory serves.

The only major company still consistently making worthwhile games is Nintendo, and even that is debatable because Nintendo only makes literal bing-bing-wahoo. That leaves indies, which aren't going to throw the huge amounts of time and money required to get through cert unless the game has already been a hit on PC.

THEY'RE
THEY'RE

>2023 account

Of course, the year we got flooded by the best and brightest of the intertubes.

Anyway, halo might been part of the zeitgeist, but gears? fucking fable? not at all, halo itself was never as big as gta, bill gates should've just bought rockstar and make gta3 an xbox launch title and exclusive.

Imagine GTAO in 2002...

Nah, both companies moving to x86 did that, porting has never been easier.

Console war or whatever but seriously, the next Xbox will be the last one. Who fucking buys a console that promises zero (successful) exclusives. Noone, thats who.

Console wars are based, the golden age of gaming ( 90s/2000s) was only possible because all gaming companies were trying their best to reach the top of industry, producing the best hardware and games that they possibly could so they could win over the consumers and destroy the competition .
It's not a coincidence that it's precisely in this PC centric all games should be available everywhere kumbaya era that gaming sucks more than it ever has before.
( Obviously wokeness is still the main reason gaming sucks now but the current lack of ambition and apathy in the console market isn't helping things either ).

If you truly believe gaming hasn't been on a decline/shit since the 360/ps3/wii era I want whatever rock you've been living under
shit has been bad for a long time and got worse, it's just things that were considered outrageous back then (overly buggy games on launch, expensive dlc, microtransctions, ect) are pretty much accepted as the norm today
you can find various videos from that era talking about these problems and you'd realize nothing has changed, only got worse but please do go on about how not having to spend $500 on a console just to play a single game that is incomplete, buggy, and also cost an extra $70 is why gaming is suddenly shit

this is just autistic fucking twitter-tier whining Microsoft and to a certain extent Sony and de facto third-party publishers that offer consoles to normalfags who are too retarded for PC Gaming, PC has been the primary platform for like 5 years now, if you cant get over that then you shouldnt play video games

The past five years have also been the worst in gaming history, really makes you think,
It's almost like the console wars were one of the main reasons why gaming was great to begin with.
