I don't share your sympathy because he is not an innocent victim here: He's gone on numerous rants about how gacha is exploitative and he's overspent on it himself, at least to me that says he knows he's addicted but despite that he refuses to get help. To build on what Olive oil said:
Phil isn't just "accidentally" forgetting a tip here or there either, he is running a scam designed to hide how much he makes and how much frivolous spending is going on. Going back to my earlier point the amount of thought and effort going into this fraud makes it clear that he's not just desperate for one extra pull, he knows exactly what he is doing and doesn't care that it's wrong.
You say "sheer lack of hope" I say "fucking hilarious": Phil is only funny when he is desperate or angry and we've been seeing less of that lately. Watching the realization that he's wasted his life set in will be the most delicious schadenfreude I can imagine. In the interim we'll just have to wait for the cope when Champions' servers are shut down without even a "Thanks for Playing!" screen.
