For further context for non-US Kiwis, 4.0 is considered the top end of the scale and 0.0 would mean someone failed all of their classes.Baltimore joined the 41%.
41% of high school students in Baltimore have a GPA under 1.0. For non-Americans, 2.0 is considered passing for lack of a better term.
The sad part is that despite inner-city school districts getting plenty of funding for both regular and remedial programs, the performance continues to decline in a never-ending cycle. As long as activists prefer to blame white people and discrimination as the causes instead of demanding accountability from the boards of education, though, things will neither change nor improve.
COVID drove home the point that there truly is a digital divide in that lower-income people of all backgrounds have less access to reliable computers/internet despite decades of Universal Service Fees intended to address this very issue. Even with ISPs willing to reduce the monthly fee to $10 to help low-income residences get broadband for distance learning (and showing how grossly inflated the regular price is), any improvements seem negligible at best. It's also further illustrated the fact past generations that weren't properly educated for whatever reason are incapable of making sure their children get properly educated, thus perpetuating the cycle. Without any push for meaningful, realistic, and practical solutions, however, we're going to see more of the same, no matter how much Federal and State money school districts receive.
Apart from those who insisted China had nothing to do with COVID since day 1, and claimed it was racist to disagree, is anyone else truly surprised at this point?
