So I think the odds of the damn thing being an escaped bioweapon are pretty low.

But uh...

@Ivan Shatov, I added your posts about Asia hating doctors and Chinese not washing their hands/handling meat the wrong way. I already had your 'China hates doctors' post in there, and I'd included @Secret Asshole's mask buying guide instead because it occurred first and was also more in-depth.

Can't see how any mainland Chinese can be "Japophobic" after this. Japan is treating Chinese with the virus better than how Chinese in different cities have been treating themselves. Of course, this might be fake news?

So this is taken from an interview with China's "Feng Huang [phoenix] Tai", one of the many Chinese outlets.
Japan listed 2019-nCov as "government verified virus". Japan's foreign minister states that they are happy to assist China to the fullest in combating the disease. Japan reserves the rights to forcibly contain patients until they fully recover; this is according to the "ministry of health, labour and welfare". According to Japans "Infectious Disease Law" the medical bills will be paid by the state, targeting th Japanese, and such that "foreigner's medical bills should be covered by the Japanese Government, no matter the kind of visa".

Surprising. If I was them or even if I was to run a city in China, I would have barred the place so no one can get in, and any escapee will be either sent back or confined and monitored like a sick animal.

I do see people talking about China's capability to erect a fully featured hospitals within a week. Yes this would be the best response, contrast it to how Mao treated the peasants during the "Great" Larp Backward Forward and other massive famines, totally because of natural disasters, having nothing to do with failed policies, land seizures, and the delusional ideology of communism.
Watch peasants eat trees while his cabinet of cronies execute his older allies.

My main problem would be how the hospital is going to be used after the virus is suppressed. During some of the other virus outbreaks in China, China was able to build massive facilities in just a week (people worked all day and all night, they deserve far more credit than the CCP) to house patients. The facilities were then swiftly abandoned after the virus has been combated, now which nature reclaims.

This is a facility that's 25000 square metres, now abandoned. It was built to combat SARS, another bat-related virus.
I guess it's easier to build stuff and not bother taking it down, but surely China doesn't have land at their disposal. China might seem like a big country, but similar to Australia, they have massive uninhabitable deserts. There's definitely better methods that doesn't involve abandoning the place after its duties fulfilled.

Using it as any ordinary hospital might be counterproductive as well, there was no shortage in hospitals until this virus came around. However, I firmly believe that one more hospital is better than one less hospital. I'd like to see whatever they built being properly used even after the virus.

I also don't see why their state will lie about numbers and stuff. If anything, this case can reinforce Chinese citizen's trust in the CCP, so the CCP should do their best in combating the virus and being as transparent as possible. It's not some little protest or inconvenient history shit, actual lives are on the line here. Censorship in such cases will backfire, now everyone's fucking home on their silly little social media accounts, all the deleted news and posts by Sino Weibo has been archived and shared in various chatgroups, image boards (yes... China does have image boards and it's as autistic as you can imagine), forums, the logistics involved in censorship in this current day makes the act itself look stupid. CCTV even allowed commenting on their videos where people want Hubei's Governor's head on a stick for being a lying sack of shit, this is a first in a long while. Usually comments are turned off. That said, Weibo being bashed for censoring stuff is glorious. While Weibo does abide by Chinese law and no one there should expect privacy whatsoever, they are ultimately still a company. Social media platforms being blasted for censorship is good for everyone.

Media

This short article is somewhat sceptical about the origin of the virus. It's said that 41 patients were analysed, and the earliest reported case was on the first of December, the patient didn't go anywhere near that seafood market. 13 out of 41 patients have never been to the market. Daniel Lucey claims that if these figures are accurate, then the earliest cases definitely happened in November, if not even earlier than that. So the virus might have originated from elsewhere, infiltrated and contaminated the seafood market, and exploded there. Kristian Andersan has been trying to find the origin of the virus and claims the very first case likely spawned on the first of October. One of the contributors to the essay posted on "The Lancet", Bin Cao claims that Huanan Seafood Market isn't the only origin of the virus, but they don't know where else it could have came from.

This sounds plausible. Chinese munching on weird shit in celebration of their national day combined with the absolute spaydos that ran the government of Hubei, celebrating CNY while the entire province is becoming a cadaverous wasteland. The virus spawned elsewhere and migrated into some putrid shithole market that sell bats and rats, where it contaminated these easy hosts, that ultimately went into the mouths of unsavoury slants who were exercising their God's given right to consume anything that's fucking sentient, which further catapulted the virus into existence, affecting innocent people as well.

Basically the virus originated from place unknown, went into a shithole market where disgusting wild creatures are being feasted on, then exploded.

Gonna read it to see if the snippet above misrepresented anything.

They also talk about clean cooking in China, which IMO should bring up a 404 notice, we can hope though. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/langlo/article/PIIS2214-109X(19)30542-X/fulltext
If China ever wants to become a "developed" nation such as their neighbours Japan and Korea, fixing these shithole markets and educating the gullible fucktards on health is a great start. Simply having tier 1 and tier 2 cities as developed doesn't make the entire country developed. I know Chinese who eat walnuts to up their IQ because walnuts look like a human brain, and TCM states that "one should eat what they lack 缺什麼補什麼". I guess that's why they need to up their IQ. Why not just pull a Reza Aslon and eat actual human brains, all cultures are beautiful right? Eating cow dicks to increase the size of that tiny Asian penis? Retarded, unironically gay.

I endorse all bat-related memes and the shaming of people who would eat these things.

Good work. I was working on a compilation post myself, people want to periodically drop in on this thread without having to go through 30 pages of content.

We should ask if your compilation could be put into the first post on the thread.

There's a very real chance WARS could lead to the downfall of the CCP.

The economic damage of SARS was measured in the billions, it had an effect felt across the world. WARS, by all credible accounts, is far more lethal. They've had to shut down an entire province to contain it, and Wuhan itself has been described as the Chicago of China.

What is the impact to China's economy going to be? Their economy has been slowing down, even with the best lies the CCP had to offer they were only able to claim 6% growth this year. And now there's this massive disruption, this Black Swan event, which has the potential for a high mortality rate. Can the party actually afford this kind of disruption? For that matter, what happens if the West finally stands up to them?

China's power structure depends on the party being able to provide improvements to the quality of life to a very large set of people. When those stop, the propaganda stops working. In a very real sense, this structure depends on being able to import technology from the rest of the world and implement it effectively within their own industries.

Here's a story about one of those recent imports. It would be a step too far to suggest this is what lead to WARS, or that it's even the identical pathogen. But it certainly raises a question about why they are trying to acquire these kinds of pathogens. Corona Viruses are akin to the common cold, they are incredibly infectious and there is no known cure. Various countries in the West have established biosafety labs - BSLs - to study these things in a secure fashion designed to prevent outbreaks and hopefully lead to cures. Knowing that system is now broken is a major concern for the entire world, and will cause people to look closely at those tech transfer relationships. This is a national security issue for every country on Earth when China "takes" your weapons and doesn't know how to handle them.

Without the West, or with strong tech transfer protections, China loses its economy. Xi Xinpeng's claim to ruler for life status becomes less solid. The people who could replace him are mostly war hawks, it's hard to imagine them pursuing Belt and Road when they can annex entire countries to put them solidly under CCP control. A failing economy means soul searching for the CCP, in a country that demands strong leadership as the only claim to power. A conflict between 2 sides in the party - like an actual debate held over time - would be completely alien to Chinese politics. Were leaders to be openly questioning the direction of the country, it could lead to mass violence and destruction of the current social order.

This would be very bad for all parties.
The Communist Russians were executing people during the worst of the Spanish Flu.

I'd be surprised if the CCP is not executing people right now, the more advanced cases. Keeps the number of official deaths low, helps party leaders save face.

The reason Communists build special hospitals is to disappear people. It gives them a way to set up crematoriums, mass graves, live human testing facilities, etc. No one wants to go there because they know no one ever returns. Society returns to normal except for the people who lose loved ones at the special hospital.

Looking at photos of the build sites, not encouraging for the people of Wuhan. The one with all the steam shovels - they leveled at least 200k square feet for the foundation. It's going to take at least 3 days for the concrete to set, under ideal conditions. Can't help but think that's a bit much for a building going up so fast, they are distributing the load to accommodate heavy machinery, i.e. industrial kilns.

just a coincidence that the outbreak happened half an hour away from China's only super biolab that specialized on the world deadliest diseases?

The Wuhan BSL was 8 miles away from the market.

More importantly, corona virus samples stolen from Canada were sent there. I know this angle is not being explored by mainstream journalists, but it's important to keep an eye on.

I don't know about a bioweapon, but as some whose dealt with plenty of Chinese people straight off the boat, it is 100% on brand if the guy in charge of animal disposal at the high security lab for death viruses wasn't actually using the incinerator and was funneling the carcasses to his cousin Chin at the bat shack for some extra yuan

Yeppo. Just a coincidence. Nothing to see here. It's just a coincidence that said lab uses the same logo as the Umbrella Corporation.

Just like it's just a coincidence that 'Corona' is an anagram of 'Racoon'. It's all just a coincidence bro.

Haha.

Just a coincidence.

The worst aspect of the new hospital is that they could have just commandeered a hotel or sports stadium, and be in business right now. Who knows how many people are going to die while they are waiting for the new facilities.

yea that's what i'm thinking, imagine the world ending just because a chink wanted to make 100 yuan by selling diseased meat to his cousin.

To be fair, all the doctors are already infected because they were using surgical masks to treat plague victims. Everyone they treated subsequent to that likely has it too.

Might as well have packed the whole city into elevators until everyone collapsed.
