I've run into some pissy people on this subject but refuse to give up MY warped sense of humor. Sometimes the difference between keeping on keeping on & falling apart is a good, sick joke.

Not gonna powerlevel but, there are definitely professions where learning gallows humor as a coping mechanism is the norm. Frankly, more people could use it. Maybe they'd be less touchy.

Ching Chong Chinaman sitting on a fence
Trying to make a dollar out of fifteen cents
Along came Corona-chan
She spread across the Ching Chong land
And that was the end of the fifteen cents.

I recall Mel Brooks saying something along the lines of "If you can laugh about something that is frightening, then that takes away a great deal of it's power to scare you."

Might've now entered Mexico.

Professor of the IPN who traveled to China, possible carrier of coronavirus in Mexico

A professor at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) is under observation and quarantined in Reynosa for possibly being the first coronavirus carrier in Mexico, he informed the Secretary of Health of Tamaulipas, Gloria Molina.

The 57-year-old teacher and head of the Genomic Biotechnology Laboratory , where the pathogenesis of viruses and bacteria is investigated, traveled to China on December 25, 2019 and returned to Mexico on January 10, so presenting some symptoms was channelled.

"He went to the place in China where the first outbreak occurred (Wuhan). He is a 57-year-old man and professor of the molecular biology area of the National Polytechnic Institute that has his residence in Reynosa , where the laboratory or a Genomic biotechnology center there in Reynosa.

"This doctor traveled to China on December 25 and was in the city of Wuhan where the outbreak occurs and returns to Mexico on January 10, is one day at the Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City and then travels to Reynosa. It is worth mentioning that the doctor understands the risk of this disease," said the secretary.

The State Ministry of Health reported that the professor traveled to China, leaving Reynosa to Mexico City, with a stopover in Tijuana , later arrived in Beijing , and on the same day to Wuhan City, Hubei.

The patient, of Asian origin, is asymptomatic , has only dry cough and rhinorrhea, and has not had a fever.

After notification of the emergency department of the ISSSTE in Reynosa, the General Directorate of Epidemiology was requested to request a diagnosis at the Epidemiological Diagnostic and Reference Institute for the identification of respiratory viruses.

According to the authorities, on January 13, 2020, the possible carrier began with a cough; on Thursday 16, the nasal flow appeared, without chest or throat pain.

The professor reported living alone and not relating to people with respiratory diseases.

Where does the professor work, possible carrier of the coronavirus? According to information from the IPN website , the professor is the head of the Genomic Biotechnology Laboratory , where the pathogenesis of viruses and bacteria, and new drug discoveries are investigated.

The Center for Genomic Biotechnology , founded in 2014, is located on Boulevard del Maestro , Colonia Narciso Mendoza, Reynosa, and has eleven research laboratories.

It stands out for the teaching of the Master of Science in Genomic Biotechnology and for the work of national and foreign researchers.

So far, the Polytechnic has not reported on the teacher's activities or the application of extraordinary measures in the event of a possible case.

Why bother paying taxes if you live outside the US if they won’t help you get home in the time of an emergency?
They’re providing a flight out but you have to sign a promissory note to repay the United States government for chartering the flight. I would bet good money that congress will forgive all of these though. I think it’s insane we’re asking these people to do that though. I’m quite conservative politically, but isn’t it the governments job to look out for you in foreign countries? I just know if I was in China and this shit was going down I would sure as hell want my government getting me out and not trying to invoice me for it.

Thanks for the list. I already have some guns that my dad passed down to me so I'm okay in that aspect.
The shittiest thing is this started to happen just 5 weeks before my birthday. My present is going to be my family and I surviving.
If you really are super worried, consider the possibility of a mass urban exodus to rural areas all around the country.
Stock up so you can avoid deadly human contact for as long as possible.

I live bum fuck nowhere in the middle of PA, should I be full on panic mood? What should I get besides water, food and, masks?
In bumfuck, I'm mainly looking at having enough food for the fam for a month, feed for critters (one of which is a dependable protein source) and seriously thinking about some fresh shotgun shells.

Do winter prep as well. Caulking for the windows, seal gaps and winterize piping. Basic home maintenance is your best friend.

I didn't list firearms, but here's a little something something...

Buy ammo. Buy 5.56mm (.223) and 7.62 (.308) and 9mm as well as .22LR. A couple bricks of that will be more useful for trade than fucking gold.

If you're like me, and a Mayonnaise Ghoul, a bow is a good investment if you learn to use it.

I hear you can get a bargain these days at the Chinese run massage parlors.

And at my local Chinese Takeaway, they told me #4 is off the menu....

If you dont have at least 10,000 rounds stockpiled you aren't even trying

My sister is flying to visit her friend in LA and cannot be dissuaded with FACTS and LOGIC. Hopefully thus far the asymptomatic contagious aren't at a critical mass and she doesn't bring it home but I'm not an optimist at the best of times.

Even if she misses it I expect the long contagious incubation period to spread it far and wide. I know it's still up in the air as to if the incubation period is contagious but China coming out and saying something that makes the situation sound worse seems like an option of last resort to me.
It's selfishness like this is what causes shit to spread.

Depends if you'll be spending ammo practicing or not. My neighbors and I have our own range so it's not an issue, but if you have a few thousand rounds and don't need to hunt for a while, you won't be in immediate need of more ammo unless you're in the heart of a large city.
