newbies checking out the thread for the first time should catch up on some of the shit archived from yesterday, maybe the day before if you're ambitious. you don't have to read thru the whole thread, but if you go by chinese reports or press statements you'll get a very different perspective from the leaked info coming through wuhan on chinese social media.

in short: we know very little about it, other than that it's likely way worse than what china has been letting on.

Not really? It'd too early to really decide if this is just adding onto the "the world's going to end!!!" sorta bs that twitter checkmarks like to peddle. It seems like it can go south really quickly. That being said, I don't really remember how bad Ebola truly was. It got buried under the heaping amounts of internet memes made about it.

I want to believe, but China has a way to fuck things up further than they already have. They did nothing when the Norks kept doing their missile tests beyond telling them to stop it. And they sure as shit are taking their sweet-ass time in dealing with this pandemic.

As someone else said, if this doesn't tarnish China's rep, nothing will. And knowing China, they sure as shit won't do anything to improve their conditions after this either. 'Course, this could at least have the added benefit of knocking their population down a peg, but I'm not holding my hopes up.

Ebloa was quickly taken care of by actually doing something about it once word got out, and it helped that it was already a thing. This being both a new virus, and China's own lackadaisical attitude toward it until just recently, I expect this to go on for a few months until they can find a vaccination for it.
 
After reading The Stand many years ago, I'm wondering why the first response to an outbreak like this is not to quarantine everyone who just arrived on a flight from China. If folks knew they would be facing a week without freedom, they'd probably limit their travel to strict necessity.

In funnier news, Plague Inc is one of Steam's top games right now. The devs are probably unsure if they should be happy or worried. The forums for it are full of Corona-chan posts.

Honestly? Wait and see because China lies we don't know how fatal this is. Watch the infected outside of China to see how they recover.
