If it's not for sale then people are just going to take it.

Stores seem to be preparing for that too...just got back from Target, which has not blocked sales of non-essentials in my area yet , and they’ve blocked off entrance/exit to one of the store entries and set up a security officer at the other open entrance/exit. Hilariously, this also meant that the social distancing we were all supposed to adhere to was impossible because everyone had to walk down the same aisle after paying.

The isolaiton has been extented to the fiith of may here in Ireland.
I wonder if I can take more of this shit.
When this is over (which I hope it will be by then,) I wil have been in isolation for nearly 2 months.
It won't be. On the fifth of May, They'll announce that its extended into June.

King Bugman leading the bugmen and content to make the rest of the east coast suffer with them. Got it.

Make no mistake: NYC would advocate purging the rest of the country with nuclear weapons if for a second they thought it would be a cost-effective countermeasure to the problem at hand. Ask any New Yorker who was alive when the West Nile scare was going and if they remember how NYC's response was flooding Long Island with fucking Scourge.

As far as they're concerned, nowhere else matters.

A number of people on the thread have asked where the line ought to be, and government telling people what is or is not essential in their lives to be able to purchase is far, far over it. What is a mother stuck at home with their small child supposed to do if they run out of things for the child to be occupied? What if a storm breaks someone's window and they need replacement glass or sealant? And I can think of no better example than what's already been posted of a fucking car seat for an infant. These are all essential given circumstances; just because they're not necessary to sustain life or relieve pain does not make them any less important, and with no end in sight for this restriction it is dangerous and irresponsible to impose it. This is to say nothing of the rejoinder of "well just order online" because shipping times have been stretched to weeks now and "essential" would generally be understood to mean "needed right away". Moreover it's unethical to force-feed business to the handful of companies able to ship orders with past restrictions still in place; I shouldn't be mandated to rely on Amazon alone (and whatever they decide to set their prices as to benefit from this) on account of my needing epoxy to repair my garage floor. My grandfather has never used a computer in his life; when he needs something he goes to a store and pays for it with cash. That's what he knows. He shouldn't be railroaded into learning how to use a smartphone to get what he needs.

I still don't agree with conspiracy theories, but the abuse of power (whatever the reason) is clear enough to me.

Because NYC is all that matters, so many people work in NYC that live in CT/NJ and NYC residents can easily travel to eat/shop in CT/NJ he wants to coordinate with those guys to make sure they are doing the same thing. And fuck you if you live in Plattsburgh or Cape May I guess.
I know, I was just autistically pointing out that the wording led to a paradox where neither could ever end lockdown due to being dependent on the other doing so first.

Then we're absolutely FUCKED if we're waiting for Cuomo to get his finger out of his ass. I'm ready to tear shit up for fucks sake. Leave PA out of this shit, stay in your worthless hellpit to fester, and leave our countryside the fuck alone with your diseased asses. God fucking DAMN it do I hate New York City

Cuomo kind of backed away from the regional thing being a prerequisite to reopening today during the Q&A with press though. Tax revenues are absolutely in the shitter and despite his "we'll follow the experts" schtick, they've been completely full of shit, so when push comes to shove he's gonna get that money regardless of what some shitty model says. He also admitted that he was very pleasently surprised with how well NY's followed the lockdown directive, but straight up said he had no illusions he could enforce it if 19 million people ignored it, so I think by next week we'll have some definitive info on the endgame. If not, Average Joe™ will end up making the decision for him and it will be end up being a fait accompli.

I scoped out Reddit Michigan out of curiosity to share funny hot takes on their ridiculous lockdown with a Discord I'm on, but these are too good to not be shared here:

ITT: People crying about not being able to plant their daisies while we are in the middle of a fucking pandemic. Some of y'all are some real selfish people crying about how your life is being affected. Yes, we know you big fucking baby. We are all going through the same thing. People are dying and you're crying about your shitty garden.

Acting like a gaggle of Karens demanding to speak to the governor because you can't get some seeds. How embarrassing.

I wonder if this redditor understands where food comes from.

As a southeast Michigander with a long list of house projects and yard work awaiting, and spring on full throttle making me want to go get all of the mulch, this is the right move.
This is about saving peoples lives. It absolutely 100% sucks how many people are slammed financially, lost their income or security, or even having a difficult time stuck at home. The alternative is literally having more fellow Americans die.
I’m extremely grateful and lucky to not have my family sick, so I have the luxury of being bored at home. But to think that we should put economy or short term recreation above saving as many lives as possible is not a legitimate argument, especially when things are not getting better yet.

This one reads so much like gun control boiler plate (I"'m a gun owner buuttttttt..") it's surreal to see it being used to justify to keep you from buying paint and wood.

I'll definitely not be visiting businesses that defy these orders. Even after we have the all clear, I'm paying attention to places that are putting money over lives. There are loans and unemployment options for small businesses available.

Funny how Redditors talk about Orange Man being bad out of one side of their mouth, but spit out full non wavering cult like faith in the infallibility of big government.

If you can't live without painting your wall or gardening for two weeks then I feel sorry for you. Just stay inside and stay safe. Nobody ever needs paint or needs fertilizer right now. You'll be perfectly fine getting it when things are safer

STAY IN YOUR POD CITIZEN. THE GOVERNMENT WILL PROVIDE YOU SOY FOR SUSTENANCE.

I'd assume that if you grew crops last year you wouldn't need seeds this year as the underlying crops should be dormant but not dead from winter? Are you aware of that?

People buying seed right now are people who want to start a farm, not people who have established one, however small.

I really don't understand what the whole idea of "hurr durr gubner say cant do it so i do it anyway" that's coming along. Do you want to endanger people? Your family? Yourself? Or do you want to be smart and do what everyone else is doing and stay inside for a couple weeks?

Don't make yourself or anyone around you a statistic. Stay inside, stay safe, stay healthy. Worry about your farm later. Produce isn't expensive. It's actually cheaper in the short run than all the gardening supplies most people probably want to get.

Be smart.

DO NOT FEED YOURSELF CITIZEN. SAVING THE LIVES OF OTHER IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN BEING SELF-SUFFICIENT.

Going through these I don't know whether I should be horrified out of how stupid these people sound, or them being willing handmaidens for government authoritarianism.

Day 20 something.
I’ve ran out of cans of cat food, my mother has been crying outside the basement door that we have Sainsbury’s deliver but I know that’s a C-Virus shoggoth wanting to get my stockpile of kibbles and bits.

This shit is bringing out the worst in everyone, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if there's a lot of cops, small-town officials, and no doubt powerful politicians utterly relishing the chance to go on the mother of all power trips.
It's funny to see that the politicians who complain about Trump issuing executive orders and claim EO's are not how government should be run or operated -- most of them being Democrats -- now seem to relish the ability to make the same sort of executive orders that hamstring state and local economies in the name of fighting COVID-19.

Cops in small towns where everyone knows each other on a first-name basis might not get too power-hungry. It would be bad publicity if word got out they gave the local senior citizens a hard time about using landscape services or having food/essentials delivered home because they're shut-ins that can't do those tasks themselves. Instead, I could see small town government officials zealously enforcing social distancing policies for the aforementioned reason that these are the areas that lack the healthcare facilities to handle any sort of large-scale outbreak or pandemic.

This is probably different in the city and suburbs. In the city I work in, for example, both police and code enforcement have reputations for being heavy-handed in carrying out their duties. Despite accounting services eventually being designated as an essential service, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the city's finest saw my car parked outside the office one of these days and decided to strongly discourage me from being there even briefly to check the mail, phone calls, and to get whatever materials I need to work from home and leaving immediately thereafter.

Just last week on my way home from a brief check-in at the office, the main road leading from there had two of the city's police cars spaced a half mile apart from each other with both watching traffic go up and down the road. With local police around here being encouraged to not stop people for minor violations, I couldn't help wondering if this was a passive-aggressive display intended to discourage people from being in their city for nonessential reasons.

And I can think of no better example than what's already been posted of a fucking car seat for an infant.
Not only is a car seat essential, but also required by law for children below a certain age or weight (based on whatever laws govern their mandatory use). To prohibit parents from buying mandatory safety equipment for their young children seems counter intuitive at best and flat out asinine and :lunacy: at its worst.

and

So basically:
CT and PA have to open before NYC, which in turn has to open before NY, which in turn has to open before the rest of the nation which includes CT and PA.
Oh lul, thank god it was just him being exceptional. I thought that Wolf announced that he wasn't gonna open till NYC does. I was gonna pack my shit up and god damn walk to Texas throw myself at the first Texas cop I found and beg for asylum if Wolf attached opening PA to NYC not being an infected shit hole.

That’s what I saw in a local subreddit pretty much the same disdain for anyone going outside. These NEETs are shut in all the time so why would they care if people wanted to do work. Wait, I forgot this is reddit, doing work is allgeric to them.

Sounds like some of the arguments that keep coming up in this thread.
