What's playing? No really, I feel like it'd be a case of: the only theater in town that is open is playing year-old movies.
Hopefully, CCs will see the goldmine opportunity in massive online offerings for Single var Calculus. In theory the kids will need less tutoring because they've already seen the shit. Still, sucks to be a Zoomer.
The local CC is dropping a bunch of business and most bookeeping/ secreterial classes to focus on their brewing and food service classes. I am not particularly hopeful their decision making is any better on other levels.

Update. Trump mobilizes army to build temporary hospitals in stadiums etc.
Hope you like drive-through Best Buys.

Order online, pickup curbside. Other big-boxes will likely follow suit.
Looks like the Javits center is top of the list to be converted to a field hospital. A lot of Kiwi's may be familiar with this place as a lot of big cons take place there.

SUNY dorms are also likely.

For some reason reading this just made shit feel even realer than it did before.
All McDonald's in the UK are to close from Monday:
Dallas County, Texas just issued a shelter in place order.

Will upload links/archives when not phone posting but Shelby County now on a stay at home order, as well as forcibly closing for all non essential businesses.

Will ask my sister if she has any info about the Memphis Zoo as well.

I'm one of the last workers still coming into the office building I work at. Combine that with the cloudy and rainy weather and our deteriorating roads and it's like living in Silent Hill.

UK in pretty much full lockdown. Still a bit vague around the specifics, there's no hard controls with pass books or anything.
You can still go for a walk (once a day) or shopping (when you really have to), but all on the honour system.

Michigan Lockdown, Day 0.5

(Preface: I live and work in a major town in Michigan for a healthcare provider.)

Following the governor's announcement of the stay-at-home order we almost immediately began getting calls regarding whether patients should be cancelling appointments, whether they should plan for telehealth visits (where patients speak to doctors via phone or Skype/FaceTime), and a few very kind people cancelling so as to free up slots for people who need them. Zero direction from administration. Management has been pathetically slow in responding to crisis overall. By the time I went home there was still no organization-wide communication regarding what we should be saying to patients or whether admin folks should still be coming in. The last message regarding working from home was several weeks ago and consisted of "we don't have the infrastructure but we're looking into solutions". I expect those will arrive right around the time a vaccine is announced.

Traffic on way home was light as was this morning. Out of desperation on account of getting shit for sleep last night I stopped at a certain drive-thru coffee franchise and was honest-to-God thanked just for the business before leaving. Parking lots are deserted for the most part. Went grocery shopping at several locations over the weekend and was able to find all essentials save for Tylenol and tissues, including toilet paper. If you're truly desperate and you can afford it, I found a 30-roll pack at Costco. Get there early and you may score.

Reminder that the virus can live on cardboard for an estimated three days. If you have a garage, sun room, enclosed porch, etc., this can be a safe place to let Corona-chan be kill if you don't want to wipe everything down with bleach rags.

Stay safe, everyone.

The Broad Street Run in Philadelphia has been delayed until October. I'm not sure if I want to run in October in flu season if Coronavirus is still a major issue, or if I should transfer my registration to next year, when hopefully Philadelphia will still be around.

AP classes are high school classes here, that can count for college credit if the exam score is high enough, so they don’t cost anything. Maybe it’s different in other states tho
That's the case everywhere: AP classes are just honors-level classes that are based around the exam content. You still have to pay for the exam itself, though.

Welp, looks like Corona-chan flashed a titty at Minnesota's governor:

No word on whether he's infected yet. Despite this, he's so far refused to lock down the state, saying he still "needs to do some research." He's a centrist Democrat so maybe he just doesn't want to feel like he's chasing the lockdown bandwagon like the other governors...

I just realized high school graduation ceremonies are in a great deal of jeopardy at this point. If they're mass-cancelled, prepare for next-level outrage.

I don't know, what is more important, your freedom or your life? I guess it depends on the point of view. Would you not mind being one of the tens of thousands excess deaths to save the economy? Or are you saying all this crap because you are in the age-range between 0 and 39 with no underlying health conditions and a mortality rate of only 0,2%?

Edit: Btw, you are as fucked as you can get, even without total lock down, because the rest of the world is also fucked. You think your economy is gonna survive when the rest of the world crashes? That's wishful thinking. We're all going down.

I have severe asthma, but I also don't want my kids to have their freedoms robbed from them. I don't care about the GDP, but it's true that you can never put the genie in the bottle again. (:_(
