I'm a welder and I explain this shit a lot. Anyone interested in how shit gets put together and how Miller vs Lincoln Electric is a marketing ploy?

Is it acceptable to weld in the middle of your front yard in the middle of tall grass? Asking for a neighbour
I'm going to separate that into two:
Welding outdoors is fine, great ventilation.

Tall grass you might want to be careful of, plenty of sparks and heat are created.

Is it gay to wear any protection besides the $2 visor that came with your cut-price Chinee stick welder?

Do you mean like thread where you post your photos of your welding and such? Personally I like those kinds of threads.
My father and grandfather taught me how to weld on the basic level with an arc welder.
I can weld two metal objects together, I know how to set up the thing and what do I need, but this will not be a very precise or pretty welding job.

I've only done tiny amounts of oxy welding (I believe "birdshit welds" is industry terminology), and had a job involoveing production-line arc-welding once. So I know fuck-all about the topic, but it's a dark art I've wanted to learn more about, for a while. I'd definitely follow a thread.

Funny answer: yes
Seriously answer: get a real fuckin helmet even if it's a fixed shade clunker, you'll thank me later.

That can certainly be a part of it. The general idea is to impart some basic knowledge so hopefully you guys can clear up misconceptions on metal and construction, and take a interest, posting welds and such to those that get into it. On a side note, which arc welding process are you into, stick, MIG, tig?

I just know the stick welding.

I just know the stick welding.
Stick welding is a respectable thing to know, can be used in all positions and on quite dirty, un grinded metal (though you really should to get rid of paint and millscale). Ive done all processes, but im best at mig and fluxcore, and decent at stick. Hopefully with this we can bring you and others interested up to speed with our collective knowledge.

I got a thread going in general, head there if you want guys
I've been known to fuse metals with the aid of electricity. I don't weld as a profession, but I weld as part of my profession. I'd be interested.
Yes, I need help with tig brazing.
