The Wolfenstein series never really caught my eye. Also, didn't the last game end on a cliffhanger or something?
Technically we've already played as as the descendents of BJ.
The Doom Guy (BJ Blazkowicz III) and Commander Keen (William J. Blazkowicz II).

Kotaku and Polygon wrote reviews bitching that it's 90% gunplay and the thirty minute cut scenes droning about the virtues of Communism and lesbianism from TNC are gone so based on that I'm assuming it's a moderately better game.

It's almost as if people play these games to shoot Nazis and not get lectured about stupid bullshit.

I will say that at the very least this seems like a response to the criticism that TNC had way too many cutscenes compared to gameplay, which is kinda nice. Not that it makes up for everything else though.

Theory: Doomguy went to Hell as an act of Penitence for his ancestor's association with Commies. Therefore, to make things right he has to exterminate them all. They aren't really demons, his helmet just makes him see them that way.

Not even Sterling and AngryJoe liked the fucking game. So yeah, this looks like a catastrophic failure
This is why pandering can't fix a broken game. I think the Wolfenstein's franchise could be pretty much dead after this

Game is bassicly the amazing gunplay of tnc without any of the heart and great storytelling
even the post nazi paris is bland without any inrestresting readables which just seem to be trump refrences that go over like a lead ballon
and thats not even mentiong the forced co op mechanichs and micotransactions

do not buy

I liked The New Order a fair bit (stylish and fun, and BJ was great). I even considered getting The New Colossus, and I didn't... not because of political issues, but more because there's too many games and not enough time to spend playing them.

But this just looks like shit, and mostly because there's no BJ. I loved him because, in The New Order, he's this all-American Texan lunkhead and it's macho. Then The New Colossus has to go and make it all "oh and he's also a JEW"*. Now we have this gay shit.

*There seems like a real trend of making heroes in WW2-themed stuff Jewish. Obviously it's play off the idea of karma/irony, but it feels real goofy to me since Jews, as a people, tend to participate in the military way less than everybody else.

From what I've seen of 90's nostalgia it won't be any better

Why not go back to 50s/60s nostalgia?

Could it be that mainstream reviewers are still into the "Punch a Nazi!" hysteria and "wokeness" that they're giving a heavily flawed game (now included with forced Trump bashing!) glowing praise?

As time goes on, the review scores TNC and Far Cry 5 received make even more sense.

Imma be honest, I think think the big narrative mistake of the series was the New Order "nazi world domination" plotline and the series would have been far better served just keeping it in the "WW2 is happening but the nazis are doing spoopy shit" template.

I mean the whole "NAZIS CONQUER THE WORLD AND TURN THE WEST INTO NAZIS TOO......somehow" thing was done to death by the time the 60s rolled around....hell it was already becoming a cliche before WW2 even fucking began and thus trying a "serious and gritty and grim" spin of it for the 38209th time was never going to work for me unless the cliche was changed around enough to keep it interesting.

Hell if I were to shit out an idea then maybe have the wider backstory be that all the occult diddlings done by both sides in the original games unleashed a supernatural apocalypse near the end of the war with various beasties swarming all sides, resulting in a desperate alliance between the allies and the nazis against the hordes of inhuman monsters, all while BJ is still obsessed with slaughtering the hordes of human monsters he has always fought, even if doing so jeopardises humanity's survival.

I dunno, just something that isnt shit I have seen a billion times over and has never been done in a way that isnt mediocre and boring.

Yeah, the first two games (The Old Blood & The New Order) weren't that bad at all and were extremely solid FPSs, the campaigns were more interesting and satisfying to play through compared to the other first person shooters released at their time.

When it came to political messages, they didn't provide any messages that I can think of other then "Nazis are bad m'kay." but when it came to The New Colossus, holy shit, they really dialed that SJW shit to 12.

Like BJ being Jewish all of a sudden to having to hear and see that sassy black bitch in every god damn cutscene and radio dialogue, I stopped playing the game after BJ got beheaded and resurrected, the game was just too retarded for me to finish, the writing was just too terrible and virtual signaling for me to bare through.

Skillup savaged it, and he was one of the people who loved New Collossus. Unsurprisingly he got called a misogynist because he hated the twins' writing.
Give me a break, I couldn't stand listening to two minutes of them, how could anyone possibly stand 10 hours of them?

I get it, these people believe women (well, certain ones...) can't do anything wrong, but come on.

I'm sure it's been said before but I find it weird that Wolfenstein now has this reputation of being strongly political when it never really was that to begin with. Wolf3D always gave me the vibe of those old pulp war comics from the 50s. Stuff like Sgt. Rock or G,I. Combat. They weren't exactly sophisticated in terms of their writing, but were nonetheless easy, thrilling reads aimed at their target audience (kids and teens) that were mostly an excuse to make a quick buck and sell chewing gum ads, like every other comic ever.

Basically, Wolf shouldn't be about things like the horrific cost of war or how communism is actually totes cool. It should be about stopping a secret Nazi plot to raise ancient undead warriors or some ridiculous shit like that. Something simple and fantastical.

Which I find humorous because my grandfather had a Jewish associate and remarked how what the Nazis did must have boiled his blood and made him want to enlist. The Jewish man's response was simple, "What? And get myself killed?"

Although, to be fair, I feel any one of us would feel the same way.
