I actively use Twitter for my art. My experience: I barely get any engagement with my posts and it took me well over a year to get 100 followers. It's incredibly discouraging, especially when you're proud of a piece. With that said: Twitter is absolute shit for art unless you integrate yourself into the "[whatever] side of Twitter" - even then, you'll have a steep decline in followers and engagements if you post something from a different fandom or niche. (Twitter also forces your engagements down if you put more than 2 hashtags on your art, I've learned. Oh, you wanted more reach? Too bad. Less reach.) It's absolutely insane to me that so many people stay on Twitter to post their art. It's not as if there are many better (active) platforms.
Honestly I did a bit of testing in the past, and in those tests, I came up with a handy sort of list of common websites that are best in terms of analytics if nothing else. Basically the best sites for new or small artists are:
1. Newgrounds
2. Pre-fall Tumblr
3. Pixiv
4. Furaffinity
5. Twitter
6. Inkbunny
7. Post-fall Tumblr
8. Deviantart

Like literally Deviantart is one of the worst sites if you want to get eyes on your work. It's literally worse than the place for furries that allows cub porn on it for fuck sake.

Honestly I'm kinda feeling glad I've more or less left Twitter beyond using it solely for shilling. Not only is it distressing to see artists like PB do so well with so little, but the damn platform has rotted my brain so badly that drawing a full piece is a near-herculean task. Twitter has practically given me ADD and legit there are times when I even wonder if I should even bother posting art on Twitter.

Also speaking of Artfight (cause it was mentioned a while back) On it's Discord server, a user said they thought the Cyberpunk theme was appropriation of their culture (they were East Asian I think) Became quite heated lol

You can't just say that and not provide caps come on man give us the GOODS.
Also how is cyberpunk East Asian? Genuinely curious if there's anything to this, is it because places like Tokyo and Singapore lean real heavy into the whole neon look? Is it because of the original Blade Runner-- which people (somewhat reasonably, to be fair) criticized for deciding to go super orientalist in its whole vibe? Because if it's the latter you can't screech about it and then ALSO claim it's yours now to be appropriated.

Oh I see, so they're saying Cyberpunk IS culturally appropriative.
...that's retarded. Blade Runner had some orientalist shit and cyberpunk def draws from there, but that particular part is pretty specific to Blade Runner. Also, fuck off, it's about tech and future and aesthetic. If they want to look at wierd East Asian fetishism they can start with the fact that like 90% of the Artfight Discord are raging weebs and start there, that's a hell of a lot creepier compared to one little sliver of a whole genre.

Extra lol at the person with the pseudo-Japanese username going 'oh well I'm a good white, I'm going to sit back and be Educated'.

I wanna see the whole discord server burn tbh, the concept is fun but the rules are stupid. This is the hell they deserve.

"grrrrr this media has Asians in it and as an Asian I dont want it"
Hope they eat the art fight staff alive fuck them and their stupid bannings and rules just fuck the art community in general

I would even suggest bumping post-fall Tumblr up the list. It's done a lot better for people who specialize in SFW art. The followings you build are smaller, but they're much more dedicated and engaging.

if deviantArt put categories back in, it would be great. I can't even browse tutorials anymore, they're under at least 10 different uncurated tags, but that's a rant for another day.

I have a deviantArt for my Etsy business and I post my art in around 100 groups (including small groups) in order to get a small amount of people to look at my stuff. Even then, a tiny fraction of those people actually go to my Etsy so all that work for 1 or 2 views is not worth it. And in Eclipse, you have to manually go to each group's page instead of searching for them in the 'add to group' button.

Art online is hard. Especially if you're on a declining website. I could rant more about deviantArt but that'll be off-topic.

so DaftPina once again is trying to get some twitter artist canceled but this time its just over stupid edgy discord jokes
