Then there was a beardie with one eye who survived horrifying abuse (like people putting cigarettes out on her) and neglect, who after much TLC from her current owners looked wonderful and was no longer skittish of people or anything.

Yeah, I really wish there could be charges pressed against the monsters who did that. Unfortunately reptiles aren't exactly something the law gives a single fuck about in Georgia (we still have one rattlesnake roundup, and the only reason the other ones were changed into humane festivals is thanks to lots of hard work from activists).

Thank god she was able to escape that nightmare. I'm kind of amazed she didn't have iriversable fear of humans.

Beardies are basically the puppies of the lizard world.

While looking for videos of beardies I found another idiot doing potential harm to his beardie, in the form of feeding it wild minnows pulled right out of a lake. It just really grinds my gears when I learn someone is feeding their captive-bred pet stuff they catch outside for whatever reason and introducing all sorts of disease and parasites to make their pet deathly ill.

This one was in the recommended video section of that, fair warning, it involves a mouse getting its head bit off:

Love the comments. "BUT MUH CIRCLE OF LIFE!!!" Motherfuckers need to show me in nature where someone places a live mouse in front of the reptile, TELL ME?!

Oh my fuck.

I've had about four years experience working with various animals from various backgrounds (I've mentioned this before in other threads, sorry to repeat!). I had a job at a boarding kennels/vets as well as extra experience from being raised by ex-farmers, as well as dealing with animals in the wild (pest control/hunting, tracking, general observation). This all encompassed things like the care, training, understanding and wellbeing of various critters, so I like to think I know a thing or two. My expertise runs more in the mammalian/avian side of things, but I have had some experience with exotics as well.

This guy is a fucking tool and should have all of those poor reptiles removed and rehomed.

It's tards like this that give fuel to arsebandits like PETA to run around 'rescuing' everyone's pets whether they are abused or happy and healthy. When the hell will people learn that, regardless of whether it has fur, feathers or scales, education on the proper way to take care of pets and a crackdown on backyard breeders and irresponsible sellers is key to solving this problem rather than an outright ban or purge on various species.

I'm not saying that 'every animal is a good animal', as that's pure complacency and simply not true. Some species have various traits that are hardwired into them and cannot be overlooked or 'cured', and often lead to behavioural problems. The real problem is that a lot of pet owners neglect to do the proper research required for a certain species, such as checking temperament, common traits, socialisation methods and suitable environments before buying a pet, often buying in pets for appearance, trend and status.

An example I like to bring up often is the husky. I'm not trying to offend any husky owners on here, but I'm going purely by experience. Huskies are an old breed that has been bred primarily for pulling and transportation, not companionship. As a result, huskies are, let's not beat around the bush, stupid. They are thick as pigshit. It's been hardwired into their DNA over generation after generation that they want to pull things and run around a lot, and not much else; this makes them hard to train to house life as they have been bred as a kennel-dog, for an outdoor life with a specific function. People buy in huskies purely for their looks, (those blank, vacant stares that for some reason people like!) and completely fail to fulfill their inbuilt need for tons of exercise. A well-exercised husky will be healthy and happy so long as it gets to run like hell and get cuddles for doing so. A bored husky will turn into one of the nastiest destruction machines that I have ever seen in any breed; all that natural strength and energy has to go somewhere after all, and as huskies are too stupid to immediately differentiate between 'good' and 'bad' indoor behaviour, they can and will destroy everything they can get their teeth on. This destruction usually starts when the dog hits puberty and becomes hormonal and slightly unpredictable, as with any dog, and that cute little puppy you thought was going to turn into a loveable wolf lookalike lapdog will become a furry tornado, and soon he'll be up for adoption with all the other year-old huskies, wolfdogs and crosses that you see constantly flooding shelters alongside the tidal wave of abused staffy bulls.

No, this isn't a husky hate train, it's just an example. The point I'm trying to make here is that no matter the species, education is paramount for a happy life for both owners and pets. The uneducated should just not be allowed to own pets, case closed.

No animal is a 'good' animal guaranteed; but a 'good' owner is something that can and should be guaranteed in order to bring out the best in any animal.

I have some experience with huskies myself.
When I was much younger, me and my father set out to get a dog at an organised pet breeder market (I don't know the name for this in English, not even sure if there is one. It's a big yearly animal convention where breeders can sell pets, it's all organised and regulated) We originally wanted a small, easy to care for dog.
When I saw a husky puppy there, I instantly started to love it, saying that this would be the dog that I'd like the most. My parents are typically responsible with animals and tend to know what they're getting into, but in this case they thought that it's a good idea to get a Siberian Husky when it really wasn't a suitable dog. Possibly just because I liked this puppy so much. The breeder said that he was the strongest and healthiest in the litter and we bought him.

When growing up, it was obvious that this dog was a typical alpha male that would feel best in a large pack, leading other dogs and working hard. He was a really nice dog, don't get me wrong, got along with people really well and was social. The problem was that he always needed to feel like he's in charge and refused to obey orders, was impossible to train his entire life. The other problem was that he hated other animals and saw everything, even other dogs, as prey. He killed a stray cat before and probably multiple smaller mammals.
Luckily he got plenty of exercise, as he got regular long walks and was involved in pulling sleds during the harsh Eastern European winters.

He lived a long and happy life, it was just very obvious that it's not the type of dog that makes a good pet, he was cut out for hard work mostly.

Border Collies can be very nasty - for the same reason that Huskies are. They're working dogs, and won't like anybody outside their family.

One of my relatives has a Border Collie she spoils to death, it's like a tumblr user, and absolutely HATES me. I needed to go to the bathroom once, and this particular beast was lying in front of the corridor to the bathroom, so, needing to go, I tried to move past it. Had I not had quick reaction time, that dog would've bitten my arm and probably would've drawn blood. Now, don't get me wrong, my aunt is a nice lady, but she seems to view that dog with a pair of rose-tinted glasses, and while my family was busy calming me down, she was in the kitchen, blissfully unaware of how bad her dog had acted.

Needless to say, we always book into a bed and breakfast every time we go to visit her now.

Also - I had to stop that video of Boatard kissing the snake with shit on his hands to stop myself from barfing. I really hope he washed his hands afterwards... :cryblood:

The guy in the vid is not Boaman. No, he mentions when he gets his own place. It seems that his parents are smart enough
to draw the line there. That being said, he wants to freehandle fucking pit vipers.

Proof that you can't fix stupid.

The guy who runs the store I buy crickets from said he knows a chick who tried to kiss her Chilean Rose tarantula and it bit her on the lip as it fucking should and her lips swelled to the size of a fucking tennis ball and she had to go to the hospital to get anti swelling shit pumped into her.

EDIT: Isn't him saying when he moves out he wants to free handle pit vipers like me saying "When I move out I'm going to get an angry lion and I'm going to stick my dick in his mouth"

Also that kid ain't movin' out I bet he can barely make toast without burning the house down.

Im not really an expert on snakes (though theyre one of my favorite animals) but as someone who has to deal with copperheads quite frequently I can safely say hes too much of a puss to actually deal with one. Maybe its just the ones in my area, but copperheads are actually fairly agressive snakes. While most snakes I come across usually try to give a warning or try to escape before striking, a copperhead will immediately try to bite anything it thinks is a threat and if simply walking by one is enough to piss one off imagine how it'll be when its getting squeezed and slobbered on by a fucked up little sped. But honestly at this point if anything bad happens to this kid its just Darwinism in action.

My experiances with Copperheads has been mixed.
