This thread physically hurts me to read. I've only had one reptile my whole life (a bearded dragon, sweetest girl in the world) so I don't have much experience with lizards or snakes but I've owned so many birds over the years. It baffles me people think this is ok. His parents are probably those kind that get you a rabbit for Easter and forget about it by next week.

I gotta go cuddle my Green Cheek now.

Uuuggghhh... I know I'm late to this party, but holy hell does this kid give me the creeps. I might not own a reptile yet, but at least I've been given a very good example of how NOT to treat one should I become an owner myself. I absolutely hate how he slobbers all over them - the sounds just send shivers down my spine. I did laugh at Boatard's screams when the corn snake "voiced" his opinions on his owner.

@Kittentits I know how you feel. I own a gerbil, while it's not a reptile, it's still just as needy and as fragile as one. And I DREAD to think what could've happened if he'd ended up in the hands of a guy like Boatard. :cryblood:

I really need to redo the retail horror thread so I can share you some of the horror stories I got while working in a pet store, like the chick who put a guinea pig in an aquarium.

There's no way he didn't want that corn snake to strike at him. He was intentionally provoking the poor thing because he figured it make for a good spectacle for youtube. What an irresponsible little shit. This kid shouldn't be trusted with a tamagotchi, much less an exotic reptile. (And holy fuck, is that his actual voice? He's not just talking like an obnoxious gay jew stereotype cartoon character for laughs? Holy hell it's like nails on a chalkboard.)

This one isn't boaman, and I might be wrong, maybe these animals are perfectly fine and healthy, but this has rubbed me the wrong way since the first time I saw it - this guy breeding ball pythons with no scales.

At the least this seems about the same as breeding dogs and cats with their faces so smashed in they have breathing problems, or other animals that have some bizarre and unhealthy-seeming feature, solely for their appearance, that just seems like a deformity. I might be wrong, maybe they're perfectly comfortable, but it looks so fragile and unprotected. And the way the guy talks about the breeding project, wanting to "see scaleless snakes in pet shops", ehhh... Focusing on weird appearance and profit over the potential health of the animal.

Alright, I am not disturbed by creepy fetishes. This includes diapers, hentai, furries, whatever. I am not disturbed by mental illness. What does disturb me is animal abuse, and this thread takes the cake. Boaman should not have snakes. He should not have lizards. He should not have a dog. He shouldn't even have a pet at all!

He'd probably feed it to one of his snakes live because he's a fucking awful little brat.

The scaless morph does occur in the wild and appears to have no effect on its ability to survive.

That is quite a fantastic animal. I apologize if I am too prying, but is there a good source of information you or your friend are aware of for monitors? I suppose this question is also aimed at @Surtur as well, or anyone else experienced with them. I'm fascinated with them, and it also gives me something to talk about with my partner. :)

RFUK is a fairly decent community though lurk before you post and don't get into discussions involving substrate or uv lighting for nocturnal herps. They go full autist on those topics and will argue for days. The Reptile whisperer on youtube used to run a blog that she updated semi frequently no idea if its still running.
You know, I'm sure this could've been avoided. When I got my reptiles I didn't know shit about them, which isn't something I'd recommend to anyone. I got both my reptiles at a breeders show about a year apart, I was the first person in my immediate family to get a reptile so I had to rely on the internet. I've done pretty well so far, granted I still have a bit of room to improve.

I've been holding my Crested Gecko for about twenty minutes each nigh for a few days and he's improving remarkably, he's not pooping on me every time I take him out now and he's really getting used to being handled again. It's something I should have done a while ago but I decided to give him a bit of space and ended up pulling back almost entirely. I've been undoing months of wrongs in just a few days and I'm surprised he's so willing to work with me, but he's a good boy so I shouldn't be surprised. (Edit: which is to say that maybe some of his animals can be rehabilitated If they are taken away from him? I'm trying to stay optimistic.)

This kid doesn't know how good he's got it though, I've wanted a snake for a while now but I can't have one because my mom's terrified of mice and rats. She refuses to have one, even if it's dead, anywhere near the house. I love most animals, including rats, so I'd feel awful about feeding them to anything. So realistically it doesn't make any sense for me to own a snake, no matter how much I want one. I'm well aware of my limits, like any pet owner should be.

Also he want's to feed a snake kittens? Poor kitties, I hope his parents have enough sense to stop him- oh who am I kidding, probably not. What did they ever do to him? (honestly, they probably just didn't put up with his bullshit and he hates them for not tolerating him.)

and sorry, I couldn't resist:
Boakid also mentioned naming one of his snakes Nagini, I was totally going use that name if I ever did get a snake.I wonder if he wishes basilisks were real, I'm sure his parents would get him one and he'd look it right in the eyes the second he got it. The Boy Who Annoyed. Kid probably believes he can talk to snakes at this point because clearly he knows EVERYTHING there is to know about them. (Edit: And I really couldn't resist mentioning this... I'm sorry if it's a bit spergy)

that's a really happy looking beardy :)

some of boaman's pets probably could be rehabilitated though others are too far gone. The sav for example is horribly obese. In the wild savs eat mostly insects and only rarely get mice. In captivity where they are likely to have a fuller diet than in the wild pinkies should only really be given as treats not as a staple otherwise one risks what has happened to that poor animal- its liver is not designed to handle mice all the time and will be permanantly damaged by now- itll be lucky to live more than half its normal lifesp

As already mentioned the scaleless morph is harmless buuuuut that gentleman's treatment of lizards has been controversial especially amongst the european herp breeders who regard his show as promoting poor husbandry. He wrote some very angry open letters a few years ago. I won't comment on issues regarding keeping snakes in racks as this is currently a bit of a minefield topic in herp circles but i will share this:

while whether or not snakes can be kept in drawers is debatable i dont think the same can be said for large monitors. BHB have claimed that that was only a feeding enclosure and i would like to believe them but there have been other videos since of baby nile monitors kept in small mesh cages. Also all of those cages have substrate and some have water bowls in them which is highly unusual for feeding trays. BHB are expert snake breeders but fairly inexperienced when it comes to monitor lizards and because of their success with snakes they wont listen to any criticism.

Those drawers always struck me as kind of weird to me because of the lack of light. But then I like the tarantula and you can make a decent enclosure for most smaller species out of modified plastic shoe boxes.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=AGgMDiL82SgHe's got literal shit on his hands at the 2:09 mark. Here's hoping it's the snake's.
The whole video's a mess, rubs shit covered hands all over the snake's head then kisses it. Good fucking job.

I don't get why he wants snakes to be considered domesticated, there are far more regulations concerning domestic animals than wild ones.

I started watching that video and my first thought was: Separated at Birth Lost Brothers?

You know, my family keeps reptiles, they have since I was just a wee little thing, and we've taken in "foster" reptiles that had been removed from their abusive owners. We've had four fosters in fact, a green igunana, a crested geko, a milk snake (sweetest little bugger, seriously) and an albino anaconda (a sweet female who was being bred to death in some dirty motel bathroom by some monsters who wanted to make a buck off her unique coloring). So law enforcement does care about snakes, at least in New York!

You should go and take them. Maybe give me his Anaconda.

I'm gonna get a little OT here, but I feel like I should share some stories with good ends in this thread. A couple weeks ago I went to a meeting for my states reptile society (they also include inverts since the invert and reptile communities rub butts hardcore). When I was there I met several rescue animals.

There was a sav who'd been rescued from someone who put heating lights too close to the enclosure and the lizard got burned (still had burns on its back). It was thankfully going to a new home the very next day.

There was also a great water monitor a brought by a guy who just rescued him, who scheduled him to get a benign tumor removed and talked about the great enclosure he made (eight by eight or ten I believe with a water feature and everything). The monitor was a bit overweight from his previous owners, but in his new home he was on a diet to help him slim down.

Then there was a beardie with one eye who survived horrifying abuse (like people putting cigarettes out on her) and neglect, who after much TLC from her current owners looked wonderful and was no longer skittish of people or anything.

So there is hope for boatards animals should they get out of his hands.

(There was also a full grown male anaconda, who was great and super chill)
