This thread really saddens me because I feel like the people who do take very good care of their exotic pets aren't as vocal as retards like Boaman. My partner really wants a monitor lizard, and has for several years, but he continues to insist that we don't have the room or money for it and he doesn't want to raise a reptile until he knows irrefutably that he/we can take the best possible care of it. Seeing Boaman keep multiple snakes and lizards (that hate his guts mind you) it just upsetting.

Another person I know in the fandom dabbles (or "dabbled" since he is MIA as far as I can tell) in the zoo community and he was one of the few people who attempted to set people straight about doing anything IRL with their pets. He was not well-liked by the zoo community which is probably why he just gave up.

I'm not trying to paint the second guy as some paragon of good decisions, considering he's a would-be crocophile, but it just seems shitty that people like Boaman and people who literally abuse their animals run rampant and nothing's done to stop that. :(

I want to preface this post by saying that while I've adored herps for the longest time, most of my experience with them is limited to what I learned from my time working at a certain large chain of pet supplies stores that also sells live animals that aren't dogs or cats. Though I guess I was fortunate enough that that specific store was largely staffed by actual reptile hobbyists, including the ass manager. They were able to convince corporate to stop buying iguanas because the store simply did (and could) not carry the proper equipment that would help the lizards thrive.

Anyway,

Another classic of his, more bonus points to those who can point out all the fucked up shit in this video.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=CbST_BFT7rs

I watched the video (or at least half of it, that was all I could take) without the sound, so I'm sure I missed even more wrongness than what I saw. But I'll try to guess as many as I can.

- Small-assed terrarium with dirty-assed glass.
- Water bowl that looks like it's half evaporated and there's a shit steeping in it too.
- The monitor looks obese, no doubt because of aforementioned small-assed tank and a diet of fatty pinkies.
- Dry wood shavings for substrate that looks like it'd be impossible to burrow in.
- Little bits of shed stuck to it, indicating poor humidity.

As I mentioned before, I really like herps. I've wanted a bearded dragon and a pacman frog for the longest time, and have done an extensive amount of research for it and decided that I was going to wait until I can afford the expenses. So people like boaman that hoard reptiles like Pokemon and can't be assed to research them let alone care for them properly make me sad.

I used to live with a guy that did something that several years ago. I may have mentioned him somewhere else here, but I'll post about him anyway. He kept four or five crested geckos that were overcrowded in a small vertical terrarium, to the point where they were eating each other's tails and limbs off in the fight for space. He ended up euthanizing a few of them by putting them in the freezer. He also did this with his several White's tree frogs.

EDIT: I did watch the room tour and Best Of 1 videos, and yeah dat voice, especially whenever he says "beautiful," though it's more like "byoh-tifol."

Honestly, this thread has kind of rekindled my interest in reptiles.

They really are fascinating really. Like the Coral and Milk Snakes. The latter of which supposedly imitates the former in order to protect itself from predators. I probably won't own a reptile myself, but I can definitely see the appeal.

Thinking about all this just makes me feel kind of sad that these wonderful creatures are being mistreated like this.

I wanted a geko growing up. My dad wouldn't let me have one. I cried and begged. He sat me down and said "listen up. You want a dead geko? Because you aren't responsible enough for this and it WILL die". Never did get one, but he's right. I was a little 8 year old shit who would have killed that geko with neglect and ignorance.

I blame these parents. Not only are they buying him these animals, they're enabling him by helping him video tape this shit.

I read through the comments on the video... Boaman directly said that he likes eating the leftover pinkies that his pets won't eat...

He has to be trolling.

He's got to be trolling.

PLEASE BE TROLLING!

Edit: I found out what Boaman reminds me of.

Apparently Boaman is also one of these live feeding fetishists or something. He says he wants to feed kittens to his reptiles and that cats are "nasty invasive vermin." Someone commented saying the same could be said of Boaman. Boaman's response has all the class and maturity I expect from this little shit.

"+Pablo Salamone get off my channel your a fat fucking retarded gay piece of shit. You ugly asshole douchbag. Your the uglyest widest troll iv ever seen angel espino. Your a shit stain of life. Your mere existence jackel is a diss to humanity. Get off my channel Angel espino you fat fucking retarded gay piece of shit nut case you have a lot of nerve you fatass fuck."

He also keeps accusing people in the comments of being someone called Angel Espino.

... I'm gonna hug my cat now.

He is a genuine asshole no doubt. The guy spreads misinformation and his parents don't give a a shit. This kid is why pet reptiles get banned.

If reptiles are capable of having patience, then those reptiles have the patience of saints... It looked like they had so many opportunities to strike or try to escape. I really hope they get the help they need.

Gah, I never heard of this guy until now, and all I want to do is find out where he lives and make sure his pets are properly taken care of. I never had pets when I was young, but I do know that later down the line I definitely want to have tons of pets in my house. But, I do know I have to make sure I can properly take care of them and be able to do so financially.

Seeing this kid having all sorts of pets and not taking care of them really reminds me of those characters you would see in Tv shows that are just absolutely terrible at taking care of pets, but they insists on having a whole bunch of them.

He sounds like the ForeverKailyn of reptiles. I don't claim to be a reptile expert but from what I do know is that corn snakes are so overbred as pets that they get kinda fucked up. My friend had a rescue one and enlightened me to its care and the poor little guy's antics became a lot more clear. We used to have to gently bonk him on the nose with a warmed-up freeze-dried pinky when it was time to eat... and even then it seemed like he didn't really know what to do next. He was an inbred from whatever snake equivalent of a puppy mill and passed away relatively young.

Reading through this thread hurt my soul so very deeply, to think of how shittily this kid and by extension his parents treat these animals. Especially shocked at how fucked that corn snake is when the one I had was the chillest of chill snakes. I loved having her massive viv full of hides and a thick substrate so she could burrow and do most everything she pleased. I didn't really handle her all too much but the times I did she was equally chill. Seeing this kid reminds me of how thankful I am for having a herp specialist friend I could rehome my corn to when I left the country, versus having some dipshit like this get their grubby mitts on her.

Now I am full of reptile feelings. So have some of said friend's adorable babs.

The tarantula brofist is the best part. What do you think @CompyRex ?

@BirdSim That top reptile is gorgeous and really healthy-looking. Is that a Savannah monitor? That's the species my partner would like to have someday. :)

He's a hybrid, a Goulds/Argus cross. Also his name is Pajaaamas which I think is absolutely fantastic.

As far as really big sausages go she has a black throat monitor. She has built really nice big enclosures for all of her lizards (the ones that are too big for vivs anyway) from what I have seen, and this fella certainly is no exception.

That is quite a fantastic animal. I apologize if I am too prying, but is there a good source of information you or your friend are aware of for monitors? I suppose this question is also aimed at @Surtur as well, or anyone else experienced with them. I'm fascinated with them, and it also gives me something to talk about with my partner. :)

I sent her this thread and boy she has the righteous fury like most any of us here. Also yeah I asked for some Sav resources and she linked me these two. Best in the hobby, she says.

You know, I'm sure this could've been avoided. When I got my reptiles I didn't know shit about them, which isn't something I'd recommend to anyone. I got both my reptiles at a breeders show about a year apart, I was the first person in my immediate family to get a reptile so I had to rely on the internet. I've done pretty well so far, granted I still have a bit of room to improve.

1-6-16: Sorry, had to edit the picture

I've been holding my Crested Gecko for about twenty minutes each nigh for a few days and he's improving remarkably, he's not pooping on me every time I take him out now and he's really getting used to being handled again. It's something I should have done a while ago but I decided to give him a bit of space and ended up pulling back almost entirely. I've been undoing months of wrongs in just a few days and I'm surprised he's so willing to work with me, but he's a good boy so I shouldn't be surprised. (Edit: which is to say that maybe some of his animals can be rehabilitated If they are taken away from him? I'm trying to stay optimistic.)

This kid doesn't know how good he's got it though, I've wanted a snake for a while now but I can't have one because my mom's terrified of mice and rats. She refuses to have one, even if it's dead, anywhere near the house. I love most animals, including rats, so I'd feel awful about feeding them to anything. So realistically it doesn't make any sense for me to own a snake, no matter how much I want one. I'm well aware of my limits, like any pet owner should be.

Also he want's to feed a snake kittens? Poor kitties, I hope his parents have enough sense to stop him- oh who am I kidding, probably not. What did they ever do to him? (honestly, they probably just didn't put up with his bullshit and he hates them for not tolerating him.)

and sorry, I couldn't resist:
Boakid also mentioned naming one of his snakes Nagini, I was totally going use that name if I ever did get a snake.I wonder if he wishes basilisks were real, I'm sure his parents would get him one and he'd look it right in the eyes the second he got it. The Boy Who Annoyed. Kid probably believes he can talk to snakes at this point because clearly he knows EVERYTHING there is to know about them. (Edit: And I really couldn't resist mentioning this... I'm sorry if it's a bit spergy)
