Oh I now know this, the first year I trained as a keeper there was a sick fuck who was paying money for live adult rabits, once we found out why we gave him a welcome to the real world.

Hell a few of the lad's I trained with worked in Africa on Game hunting farms, an a few have moved back, lions like cat's don't like work toss them some meat they are more likely to scavenge than hunt. Lee was a keeper on a sporting estate an there was a hinter became the hunter moment, I loved it as it was my skill vs apex predator, honestly a pack off them. What I despise is caged hunts, it's not as common any more but when I was training as a keeper it was (an a lurcative souces of income) some guy who wanted to hunt a animal on his own terms payed a dealer to release a lion, bear or wold into a urban environment to hunt an the animal was drugged.

I fucking hated that, it's one thing to hunt a animal than can hunt you it's another to let it lose in a car park an give it drugs so you can get your jollies.

May I ask what you did to the guy who was feeding live rabbits? That sounds amazing.

And yeah, like I get into argument with idiots on YouTube who think its "more natural."

I'll be honest, I broke his jaw, he was feeding live animals to things that didn't like the pray dead. He was arse who just liked big animals, I have a funny story about him an a Alsatian if you have time to read it.

I vaguely remember some dude posted years back on the stupidpetowners lj community who smashed a mouse's head in (with a hammer or against the table; I can't recall) to "help" his bearded dragon who wasn't going for it live . An adult mouse. Herps, like pitbulls, are unfortunate enough to attract a lot of stupid violent assholes.

Jesus, what a creep.

Poor bunnies, though. My parents have a rabbit now and he's the sweetest little guy. They can be such affectionate animals and smarter than you might think.

I hope that guy isn't allowed to own anymore animals.

This thread is full of righteous anger, but I want to take a moment and point out something I noticed in the third "best of" video.

This man (I think it's his uncle) looks very familiar.

Do we know what specifically is wrong with him? Is it just the 'tism or is it something else?

I watched the third video and that was enough for me. The family as a whole appears backwards and completely irresponsible. The son is obviously touched with various problems and in no way should be allowed anywhere near any animal and what I assume is the father is similarly off-putting. That laugh. That laugh is redolent of a man-child stuck fair in the middle of an idiot IQ score. The simpleton parents supply these poor animals to this dingus and enable all of this poor behaviour...for shame! As an animal lover I hope against hope that somehow this clan of addlepates are held to account and are properly dealt with at some stage in the future.

In my youth i kept a small colony of ackie monitors- they were by far the most intelligent wee animals ive ever encountered- they used to work together hunting crickets like velicoraptors or something and were forever burrowing and moving around (ok a bit of basking too but that's just herps!. The contrast with all these obviously weak and sluggish savs and tegus is upsetting- that tegu obviously doesn't want to be held yet is unable to fight back- to put it in perspective for none herp owners a healthy tegu of that size should be able to make a massive fuss if it wants down not the half hearted flailing in the video.
Here is a much happier tegu for contrast

I think the saddest part is the kid obviously does have an interest in reptiles but he's far too low functioning to care for what are very demanding, complex pets. I blame his parents- taking care of that many reptiles is demanding and difficult for even experienced keepers giving so many large advanced species to a fat autistic kid is lunacy.

He would have been much better with a single bearded dragon or gecko in an expensive properly decked out viv with close parental supervision. Half the joy in the hobby is crafting beautiful elabourite vivs for your pets and watching them enjoy their homes.

I would imagine if done correctly with proper and extensive parental supervision taking care of a single herp would be good for a troubled child- keeping the reptile fit and well and happy would be stimulating as they'd have to act responsibly in caring for it and creatively in keeping it happy, designing the cage interacting etc. Also if you can learn to pick up on reptile emotional cues people are far easier by comparison. And in return they'd get a pet that can be quite affectionate and wont notice their tism.

This fellow is an example of the opposite- sick animals, bare vivs, scared of his own snakes and blatantly buying new animals like shiny toys. His parents should be ashamed, they have failed both him and his collection.

This is the cutest thing oh my god. The tegu is like "what is this invisible wall in my path? I want to go outside but there's this force field here this is bullshit. Fine, I'll just climb on the dog instead."

None of these videos are remotely funny, and in fact, I want to kick tis fattie's ass. I keep reptile's myself, and seeing this is just about the worst thing. My heart goes out especially for that monitor lizard, who needs a much larger tank to facilitate its growth. Absolutely disgraceful that people treat such sensitive and exotic animals like throw-away pets.

I absolutely love My Bearded Dragon, I've mentioned once in another thread that he's my baby, he's sitting next to me as I type like he usually does. I baby talk the shit out of him, I snuggle with him, he puts up with me (which requires a lot of patience and is more than I can ask for) and he's the best pet I could've asked for. I have a Crested Gecko too but he doesn't really like being handled, it's my fault and after reading this thread it's something I plan on fixing. They are amazing pets and this thread makes me sad.

I've seen a lot of people abuse their lizards, I've got a few stories but I don't want to bum people out with them. But this kid, this fucking kid, I'd love to give him and his parents a good smack, especially the parents (This entire family just pisses me off, I'm trying my hardest not to A-log but it's incredibly difficult because I love animals and they shouldn't have to put up with this shit), I don't know what they were thinking, a normal kid shouldn't even have half that many pets. I don't understand how they can sit on their asses and not even question what they're doing, I know these people are idiots but I really can't comprehend this, they really need to learn how to limit themselves. I'd feel a little bit bad (not a whole lot because it would be for the best) for the kid if he got everything taken away because if it were me I'd be absolutely crushed, to me it seems like he's hoarding lizards to fill a void, and I wonder if it's a way for the parent's to get out of having to deal with him (an incredibly expensive theory that probably doesn't hold much ground). I wonder how much everything is costing them, I don't know much about Tegu's and Snakes but I know this can't be cheap.

if you buy as hatchlings most reptiles are actually cheapish he also doesn't have anything crazy rare (i dont think). its not cheap and won't be cheap to maintain but probably isn't all that much more than lego or other autistic buy off hobbies. I agree it seems to be a way of keeping him out of their way- appeasement by herps :(

for reference gold tegu hatchling on blackwater reptiles is 49.99USD

On a sidenote your beardie sounds adorable, you should post a pic on the reptile group if you haven't already!

Backwater Reptiles is a lolherd in its own right. They mostly sell bulk wild caught and ridiculously low ball their prices because of that. They do not even operate their own shipping house, they take your money and send it to a warehouse in Florida who then ships you an often dead animal.

I don't live in the US so wasn't aware of their reputation- I had noticed a Black tree monitor kept in an inappropriate viv on their youtube though.

Sadly I doubt boaman researches his suppliers in any detail and indeed cheap WC would fit with his thoughtless style.
