I fucking hate wild caught. I'm a spider and invert dork myself and it drives me up the wall that wild caught is viable trade still in species that can be captive bred easily.

Edit: this site is fucking idiotic, he's got fucking Theraphosa as group, as if the price range between a blondi and apophysis are even close. This shit also can encourage idiots to go "oh I have 2 Theraphosa sp. so I'll breed them!" and make fucked mixes.

His parents have failed in their most important job, making sure he's fit to live as an adult. I'm not sure how severely he's affected by whatever he has, but whether he's going to live by himself or not, he'll be screwed the rest of his life by not even being able to take care of a pet.

Something like a pet is a perfect opportunity to teach an autistic kid empathy on a level they can understand, before ramping them up to humans, and can be rewarding for a lifetime for pretty much anyone. Whether or not he's actually autistic, he obviously has severe difficulty recognizing when the animals he's handling are uncomfortable or even afraid of him.

Instead, when his parents are not around to protect him, he's pretty likely to harm himself or the animals even more than he is now. And he won't be getting anything good out of it in any case.

Seriously, fuck that kid's parents.

Primarily because of money I've been limited to budgies my whole life (the $20 parakeets everyone likes to think are worthless) but even properly raising one of those can be very time consuming, yet rewarding. Hell, once my 'keet goes I'm going to put down birds until I'm able to settle down on my own.
Heck, I remember when I was younger I really wanted a pet rat. (They are actually one of the better rodents to keep as a pet) I did an absolutely autistic amount of research on them before my mom finally broke and said I could get one. I dropped the entire thing because everything I read said that rats need to have a companion, and so I would NEED two in order for them to be comfortable.

While all of that may seem really off-topic to you, I was actually trying to make a point. As a pet owner, nothing bothers me more than the idea that my animal is unhappy because of the way I keep it. I was raised to treat all living things with respect. I fucking HATE how this kids parents have neglected to teach this him that; he doesn't seem to realize that his reptiles are more than toys for his entertainment. It's not really his fault. If his parents had just said "No, you can't have every single exotic reptile you want" and taught him to properly care for one, I'm sure of a couple things:

  • That one Reptile would have a way better quality of lie than any of his ten current ones
  • He would be able to find fulfillment in building/maintaining the ideal habitat for said one reptile
  • He might realize that reptiles are hugely time consuming and that owning as many as he does is a recipe for disaster.

But you're a good pet owner with actual concern and love for your animals. This kid doesn't care about his pets so much as he wants THE MOST PETS. They're like Legos for Chris, or stupid opinions for Holden. Just something he likes to collect, but has no interest in other than what serves him.

Well off the top of my head, a cage that needs cleaning, water that needs changing, what looks like a frightened fancy rat instead of anything dead, a frightened/confused snake that's never been fed live food before, casual homophobia, an obsession with a rat's penis, a dudebro-ish delight in the rat being killed rather than the snake being fed, and a terrible, terrible australian accent.
 
I'll take a stab:

No hides
No thermometer/humidity gauge
Nothing to climb on/ explore
Rat is too big to safely be fed live to that snake
can that substrate cause respitory problems as it will hold humidity down near the snake?
Water bowl is too small

In addition to what's already been said:
  • Live feeding
  • Feeding inside the terrarium, snake could potentially ingest substrate while feeding and suffer gastrointestinal problems. Also a surefire way to get your ass bit when the snake thinks it's going to be fed and mistakes your hand for food
  • Douchebags who buy these animals to somehow prove their masculinity rather than care for a living, feeling creature with love

I remember when working in the bush in Zimbabwe a few years back, hearing a local tell a friend that full grown pythons can eat a pig. Burmese pythons get bigger than african rock pythons.

Just sayin ;)

If animal control tried, they'd have to deal with lawsuits from the family who wouldn't want to hear boaman5435 cry oppression because his reptiles are being taken away.
 
Oh wow. This wasn't a good thread to read before I planned to go to bed, this is really depressing. :( Those poor animals deserve so much better.

That kid is seriously annoying too. Every time he kept kissing the snakes I was waiting for one of them to bite him in the face. Not to mention that can be incredibly unsanitary, and there is no way the snake actually likes that, at all.

Sorry for my ignorance regarding reptiles, but wouldn't it be better for the lizard to eat dead mice? I can imagine that it would be easier for them to eat something that wouldn't put up a fight.
I honestly couldn't get through the whole video.... Those poor mice... I know it's the circle of life and whatnot (an animal's got to eat), but when everything went dark, and you could only hear the mice squeaking in fear, that just got to me. As you can tell by now, I couldn't bring myself to watch those other live feeding videos... :heart-empty:
