What makes a lolcow is essentially being socially non conforming. Leftoids are generally uncritically accepting of nonconformists
 
I don't know why some of you guys don't think leftists gossip. There's several who admit their political leanings but keep to the other parts of the forum, mostly staying away from the autistic thunderdome. Since they can bitch about political stuff elsewhere, they don't need to vent or discuss here unless it is a big happening like a natural disaster or a different country without a right/left USA political bent. A lot of people do respect your right to bitch about shit in peace, they just get tired when it crosses over to the lolcow subforums. You only hear the more vocal leftists bitch about it because there will always be someone bitching about it, but generally, they keep separate spheres.

The amount of off topic politisperging in NON-political threads is TOO DAMN HIGH!

I'm not saying "the old internet was political, and right wing". I'm saying, "even absent any overt politics, the baseline beliefs of the old internet (and those of a hundred generations up until the last couple decades) were right wing by today's standards".

Another way of looking at this is via Robert Conquest's Laws:
- Everyone is conservative about what he knows best
- Any organization not explicitly right-wing will eventually become left-wing
- The behaviour of a bureaucratic organization is best understood by assuming it's controlled by a cabal of its enemies

In other words, once an organization grows large enough to include those who aren't core to the mission/hobby, you'll see entryism of those who don't care about the topic itself, but just see it as another path to power. So the people who just want to "grill" (build planes, design games, make fun of lolcows) will find themselves under occupation by an HR department setting ideological rules at odds with it.
 
Kiwi Farms leans right because a lot of Internet culture shifted right during the 2010's. Internet culture was left-wing during the 2000's and was largely reactionary against George W. Bush, the Iraq War, the War on Terror, and the US culture that followed from that. Then Obama got into office and, around the same time, left-wing bureaucrats, administrators, activists, and lawyers began to beat everyone over the head with their idea of "Kultur."

Making matters worse is that the tools for controlling the Internet and dissemination of information got a lot better during the 2010's. In the 2000's, no one would care about a Kiwi Farms website that discussed, laughed at, and documented retards on the Internet. There was an understanding that the Internet was not real, activists did not target advertisers or major digital infrastructure companies, and there was a much more laissez-faire attitude.

Now comes the 2010's (and 2020's). Add in more complex digital infrastructure important for day-to-day operations (e.g. Cloudflare), the targeting of ISPs and advertisers for having controversial customers, more complex censorship tools like the use of algorithms, and a much more overbearing mass media blaring their ideas in your face. You could get away from obvious propaganda and now it's a little trickier because every city and town puts [RECENT THING] everywhere due to social media spreading memes. Another significant factor is that, back in the 2000's, you weren't supposed to live on the Internet or put your name and face or take it too seriously. Now everyone does.

The pendulum is swinging back the other mmmway, but this time a lot harder due to the existing tools at our fingertips. Also, some of us are getting older and have to reckon with the fact that culture is not static.
 
Reality has a right wing bias. All places on the internet tend to lean right wing when left completely unchecked and uncensored. The alphabet agencies learned this a long time ago. That's why Reddit mods are so cucked.

This is false. In order for an organization to become left wing, it has to be forced to do so.
 
We lean right wing? Since when was basic acknowledgement of reality (and the patterns it presents) right or left wing? It's crazy to try to equate truth with the right and lies with the left.
 
I agree with what most of the people have said so far, since this is one of the only sites around that won't give you the banhammer for "wrongthink".

I started lurking on here back when the Weeb Wars shit was kicking off, and back then I feel like KF was pretty equally left/right split, so it balanced out in the center. However, after 2020's "Summer of Love" and ESPECIALLY after #DropKF, the userbase understandably started skewing further right.
 
The old Internet was completely and totally dominated by “South Park Libertarians”. The main debate was whether Bible thumpers or Hippies should be mocked more. Even Reddit was this way when it started.

Most of us are refugees of somewhere like classic Something Awful or 4chan and needed a home after normies and overly sensitive theater kids flooded our homelands like Camp of the Saints.
 
If you mean on issues like "Should illegal immigrants be deported?" or "Should males play in women's sports?" it's because 80% of the population holds the right wing opinion on that and so it is natural that a forum would trend that way.
 
It's really simple.

Prowling into the underbelly of the internet will show you that a worldview based on good natured, honest and true interaction is one doomed to failure. It's pathological for these common groups, furries, anime and trannies to be sex obsessed freaks who hide the fetish parts from real life interactions, including behaviors like knowing stereotypes to be true, but crying about 'bigotry'.

This fundamentally changes you, when you see left wingers naively support and prop up these deeply flawed minority groups, and cover for the wicked ways, you'll tend to gravitate towards the right, who doesn't do any of that.

The amount of horrible, horrific shit changes you fundamentally. You know the void exists, and the void wants to hide.

You can't support an accepting worldview when you see it.

On one hand, if you can't handle your views being criticized, maybe you shouldn't have them.

On the other hand, it seems a lot of sites that tend to be left-leaning are more than happy to hand out bannings to anyone with a slightly different take.

The word "cult" gets thrown around like racial slurs at a KKK meetup but it's a fairly accurate word.

Im the late 90s i was wildly more liberal thany peers and had a reputation to the point my teachers didnt know what to do with me of standing on my principles and digging my fucking heels in no matter who you were.

I hold most of the same principles today. Im stilk as angry. Im still anti authoritarian and now i have a lot less hope and a lot more evidence that tbe angry teenager me, was right.

And now im right wing. In the 90s the conservatives were cultish especially the evangelicals. Now the left is and has been for over a decade.

Fuck both of them. Fuck purity spirals. Idgaf if its liberal or conservative flavored take your koolaid and shove it.

I the woman who wants a decent world and to be left alone and think that if thats impossible it can all burn.

I also have engineer autism and believe that fucking up everything for everyone for your pet projects is abhorrent. Currently/recently the left is fucking up my world but the right is playing their usual fail games to catch right back up. Give it a year or two and ill look moderate then liberal again and wont have changed my mind about a damn.

You just described the plot of The Sneetches in so many words, except instead of deciding if stars are cool or not, it's your subscription to the "acceptable" beliefs of the group. Which seem to change all the time to benefit people who don't care about you.
 
Any space that encourages, or even just tolerates, open inquiry will separate wheat from chaff.

Ideologies that cannot withstand scrutiny and/or that rely on censorship and suppression of dissent to persist do not fare well in a free marketplace of ideas.

These sorts of places "lean right" because, when anyone can point out you talk like a fag and your shit's all retarded, it requires constant deliberate effort to "lean wrong".
