I personally believe that environmental factors are also significant influences of homosexuality.

for starters, the "born this way" thing is an albatross. it's a defensive argument to ward off accusations of voluntarily participating in the act. but also, I think it probably feels that way internally to any gay person. either way, it can be safely ignored.

now I realize the whole nature vs nurture thing is a huge scientific and philosophical slapfight, and I'm not going to try and make a comprehensive and rigorous argument here. so indulge me; let's just take a slightly modified version of the tabula rasa stance, and say that nobody is born any kind of way unless it has to do with genetics (i.e. height, hair color, skin color) or developmental deformity (i.e. Down syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome). the overwhelming majority of human behaviors and modes of thought are learned, especially during developmental years. however, the nature of the human brain seems to lend itself towards certain trends (i.e. babies cry to get what they want, toddlers want to zoom around everywhere as soon as they learn to walk, kids learn language by mimicking the people they see around them) and these starting trends cause other trends down the road based on various external factors (i.e. a child that cries a lot and always gets attention is not being conditioned enough to learn to stop crying as it gets older). however, not every factor produces the same outcome. for example, not every neglected child becomes a serial killer, and not every serial killer was neglected as a child. but there is a notable trend.

now, take human sexual development for an example. it has certain behavioral markers in both boys and girls and most kids will reliably reach those markers without interference. however, like with any human behavior, this path can be curved through external factors. critically, exterior influence has a greater chance of diverting the path further the earlier it's applied. the obvious exterior factors that interfere with sexual development are:

• early exposure to sex. this might be in the form of access to pornography, or the presence of a sexually promiscuous (and maybe exhibitionist) member of the household.
• distorted sexual education. kids will naturally trend towards being straight, but giving them the idea early on that (for example) homosexuality is desirable can curve their path of development.
• child sex abuse. this is what most people who aren't fully rainbowpilled point to as a chief cause. children react strongly to the behavior of adults around them, and sex abuse is a powerful combination of being exposed to adult behavior, being behaviorally conditioned by an adult, and feeling physical sensations that anchor those experiences.

note that homosexuality is one of several possible outcomes. hyperpromiscuity is the more typical outcome, which can fuel other sexual behaviors including but not limited to homosexuality or bisexuality.

less obvious factors are just child stress factors in general. anything inhibiting development can possibly manifest in sexual behaviors down the road. this includes physical (non-sexual) abuse, neglect, early exposure to death, etc.

my maternal grandfather was a savage drunk and regularly beat my mother and her siblings. the girls were subject to regular sexual abuse as his drinking buddies liked to feel them up when they were over at their house (this would have been around age 8-12). this was the eventual outcome: my aunts turned out more or less normal - straight, no anomalous sexual behaviors. my mother showed signs of hyperpromiscuity, but it was only ever towards my dad - she had very few sexual partners in her life, and no others after she met him. one uncle, who was subject to physical but not sexual abuse, came out as gay when he was still a teenager, and was enthusiastically hyperpromiscuous, but only for a couple decades until he settled down with one guy, then separated from him, then became effectively asexual. since then I only know of one other sexual encounter he's had (yeah we're pretty open about this stuff lol).

tl;dr: to give a more specific answer, it is a learned behavior, but something that is learned developmentally (not directly through social contagion) from a host of possible sources, which includes child sex abuse, but also developmental difficulties in general. in older times, cultural behaviors about sex and relationships would have worked to curtail these behaviors a lot harder than they do now, but the Sexual Revolution opened the Pandora's Box in this respect.

Evolution, as I understand it, is described as being about genes. Yes they are about populations, and individuals, but mostly in the context of the genes they pass on.
Sorry I didn't quote enough, then misrepresented you. Too many quotes LOL. Any loss in fertility could be catastrophic to a population over time, but given the issue is more common in men, and men traditionally reproduced less (as the ruling men typically had many wives, and many men had none), it could creep in without effecting overall fertility of a population at all. I'm glad you didn't suffer abuse. Maybe you're right, this argument belongs in the past.
