So the scriptural basis for the Catholic church is Matthew 16:18 "And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."I'm not so sure. Do you have verses to prove this?
As opposed to Eastern Orthodox? And what are your thoughts on the whole Vatican II debacle?Quite frankly, it is the most well-reasoned, intelligent and logical foundation for the Christian religion. If you have a doubt or question not only can you ask your highly-educated* priest but there is also an enormous treasury of theological literature to draw upon.
*Had I gone into the seminary it'd still take me six years to be ordained even with a graduate degree.
I'm not kidding either. I'm sure you've seen those clips where a lesbian pastor elected solely on the basis of her lesbianhood wearing a rainblow flag robe is in a church full of rainbow flags and delivering a sermon on how "god is nonbinary" (Spitting on the concept of the trinity which is fundamental to Christianity), making tiktoks equating God's love of all his creations as approval of the sin of homosexuality, or praising "god's queerness", or stating Jesus was gay/a woman/trans/take your fucking pick, or bringing little "trans" kids up to the pulpit and praising their queerness. In a sane world those fucking Episcopalian dogs would have been put to the scourge until they recant or flayed alive.Just don't be a Methodist or Episcopalian. Those guys are actual fucking heretics and should be burned to death at the stake. They worship homosexuality and LGBTQ+ identity over God.
All called and ordained servants of Christ have the ability to forgive sins, and our Priests also drink lots of beerOur Priests and Nuns drink beer, plus we’ll forgive you for anything so long as you ask.
That’s enough reason.

From what I hear, more of the young crowd are turning towards churches that are theologically conservative and leaving the more liberal ones, with gay shit being the breaking point for a lot of people. Especially young men, it seems.I'm not kidding either. Your assertion about theologically liberal churches (I'm Evangelical as opposed to mainline, was mainline for a bit) are right, but gosh. How did you even get Confirmed? From what I hear, more of the young crowd are turning towards churches that are theologically conservative and leaving the more liberal ones, with gay shit being the breaking point for a lot of people. My mother's side of the family is Episcopalian, and honestly their church kind of sucks and is what I refer to as Alcoholics Anonymous Christians. Like, they pay lip service to the faith and donate decent amounts of money but that's pretty much it, real loosey goosey. Now I go to an Anglican church that is part of the ACNA because I respect the pastor and he knows his shit really well, and last I checked the ACNA does not do gay marriage but it's one of the main talking points for Anglican leaders now, so it's a clusterfuck and we'll probably see it come to a head and see some splits among the conservative and liberal churches again.
I'm in a weird position, as I am gay but I don't support gay marriage as I think it is supposed to be between a man and woman etc etc. So it's a really fine line to walk of finding a church that I agree with in terms of theological politics, but could also bring my long term boyfriend around to lunches and stuff and not have it be a big to-do.
But back to Catholics, I give them big props for not bending to the woke shit that has infested other institutions, at least the ones I know. The Methodist church that I drive past often legit has a fucking tranny pride flag hanging on it's sign year round, like that's how bad it is these days.
I kind of just showed up and the people were pretty chill, didn't get Confirmed but I like going to church.Your assertion about theologically liberal churches (I'm Evangelical as opposed to mainline, was mainline for a bit) are right, but gosh. How did you even get Confirmed?
Luther's positions grew increasingly extreme and divergent from Church teaching over time. Remember he was not only a parish priest but professor of moral theology in the period leading up to the 95 Theses. There was a big difference between Luther in 1517 and several years later after his excommunication, let alone in the following decades.Thank God Leo didn't listen then.
As I understand it Luther declared war on most of the Sacraments, butchered sacred scripture, mistranslating passages as suited etc.
Reformation is one word, deformation and perversion might describe it better.
That's putting it mildly. Corruption in the Church on the eve of the Reformation was extremely severe, probably worse than even during the Saeculum Obscurum back in the 10th century....Julius II was probably the worst Pope in the entire history of the Church due to the scope of his corruption. There were abuses, but it wasn't the first time human weakness had cried out for growth and renewal. Judas was one of the twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus.
Orthodoxy is equally as valid as Catholicism in that regard, but it has never produced the same kind of religious scholarship with a universal reach like Catholicism. A lot of this is because it's an extremely ethnic and culture-bound religion; you aren't just Orthodox, you're Greek, Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian, Bulgarian, etc. This is also a big reason why the Orthodox churches have never really been effective at evangelism vs. the RCC.As opposed to Eastern Orthodox? Do not be deceived. All homosexual relationships are sinful, even celibate ones (read 1 Corinthians 11 for more info). "He who loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me."I kind of just showed up and the people were pretty chill, didn't get Confirmed but I like going to church.
In fairness, I'm in a very classically liberal city and most people don't really give a shit.
To be a Christian: Anglican Catechism said:How else is the Seventh Commandment broken?
Violations of this law include sexual harassment and abuse, rape, incest, pedophilia, bestiality, same-sex sexual acts, prostitution, pornography, and any other form of lust in thought, word, or deed. Leviticus 18:6–30; Matthew 5:27–28; Romans 1:24–28
Orthodoxy is great. But, God has put me into a very good church, and I shouldn't try and fight that. You shouldn't. It's a dead church run by non-believers and only surviving by living on past glory. Go Orthodox.

I know that stuff, and I'll be real I kind of lapsed in my faith for a bit because it's pretty hard to square the two together. Still don't really know what to do about it, if I'm honest.Do not be deceived. All homosexual relationships are sinful, even celibate ones (read 1 Corinthians 11 for more info). "He who loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me."

holy shit, finally someone who gets itProtestants do hokey shit like play acoustic guitar in church and Episcopalians especially seem to always be doing something embarrasing and retarded.
Catholics have the Jesuits though so we aren't perfect either.
